Very slow paced work environment, found myself working four and a half hours alot because they do not have to give you a paid lunch and will only pay you for four and a half hours to prevent you from receiving a full five hour pay. During the interview I was told about "1000 dollar store credit" that I could spend by the end of the year but when I was about to do so I learned that it was 10% off with a maximum limit of 1000 dollars. So basically you lose the employee discount once you receive 1000 dollars off of everything you spent so in its essence your only receiving a gas station coffee deal to buy 9 get 1 for free.

A quarter of my life was spent with this company. I worked in the greater Toronto area for 8.5 years. Once I moved for family reasons to a location 2 hours away, I noticed area managers didn't hold the same business family ethics there were in the GTA. For example, in the gta they focused on promotions from within the same store, transfers to other stores for advancement, lateral moves for best fit etc.. The district I transferred to hired me to cover a leave, then told me I would be given a position when this person returned, then reneged on this and offered me a demotion, all while hiring managers who divided and berated the current staff, and basically managed by bullying. Never once after leaving the gta Sport Cheks did I feel this company actually cared for its employees.

At sportchek there are multiple tasks you have to succeed in because there is always so much going on there. The management isn't the best. However the coworkers make up for it. I made forever friends through that job.

management goes above and beyond to help you fully understand what needs to be done, how to help you improve, and provide you with the steps to become a better associate. They are all astounding people with the ability to make the company above and beyond. It's an amazing place to be and I've been blessed with the opportunity to work at this establishment.

I was hired as a seasonal employee at Sportchek in Belleville, Ontario. I was hired for the winter season, with all of the holidays within (Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and Boxing Day) Throughout my time there I was treated great and loved working there.

Great place to work. The pay is in line with any other retail job. They are extremely flexible to life/other jobs, and the best management team I have ever worked for. Highly recommend this job to someone who want to work in retail.

SportChek was an incredibly comfortable and enjoyable place to work. They successfully provided me with the skills and knowledge to be a successful sales associate. My managers were engaging and responsible and my coworkers were supportive and willing to assist me when necessary.

a typical day would consist of greeting customers, taking them off the table when they are done their treatments, processing payments and booking new appointments. There was only one other coworker and that was the chiropractor herself, so it was pretty quiet most of the time.

Began working at SportChek in 2006 and recently left because upper management was absolutely awful to deal with. Working at Sportchek CAN be amazing, the idea of teamwork really builds a mini "family" among staff within the store, however if the management lacks positive reinforcement and desires only power and control for him/herself, everything below that seems to crumble. Likewise, I am sure this would happen with all stores! Specific Issues: 1) scheduling was done according to who management was friends with 2) upper management was hypocritical - would tell part-timers they couldn't do certain things, and then do them theirselves 3) upper management was condescending and unappreciative - didn't matter what you did or how much work you put in, it generally went unnoticed 4) upper management could not be trusted -- confidential meetings or discussions were often NOT kept confidential 5) communication with upper management was almost non-existent because she/he was intimidating and disrespectful Unfortunately, this store is not a good representation of the company -- FGL is a great company to work for, as I have worked in another SportChek that had an amazing reputation! Although the discount is enticing, the atmosphere seems great for those of you that live an active lifestyle, and the people are youthful and friendly, none of that makes up for the condescending, selfishness of upper management.

Started in 2006 and absolutely loved the job. Kept part time employment until 2012 and after 6years was let go with no reason, no witness, and nothing to sign. Unfortunately company values have changed quite a bit and has made the atmosphere intolerable. Interaction with peers is limited and zoning has taken priority over customer service. It's unfortunate, used to be a fabulous place to work.
