Avis d'employé sur Sport Chek
Great Job during university!
I worked at Sportchek for just under 3 years and it was one of my favourite jobs. If you stay on top of your schedule they’re very accommodating. Most employees are university / high school students and we never had issues getting days off for class as long as you keep up with your availability. Hours depend on work ethic, managers can really screw you if they don’t like you. It also seemed like a popularity contest (I knew people who worked at several stores across Ottawa). If the managers didn’t like you, you never got shifts. Discount is amazing, it’s what I missed the most. The job overall is easy, I worked on cash and in clothing. There’s no room for advancement unless you want to be a department manager and they rarely promote from within the company.

Managers can be mean
It was okay working here. It's an entry level job. You learn a bunch. You have some nasty co-workers who expect you to know stuff when you're new and don't try to teach you. However, I've had a few good coworkers who were fun to work with. Managers are okay. They mostly yell at you if you have no work to do. It's a good job if you want job experience. Just know you're expected to work hard at minimum wage. Discounts are pretty good.
Coworkers, management, stressful
The work wasn't the problem, the work was actually very fun. I used to pick up all the shifts I can just because I enjoyed the experience. The troubling part was dealing with a bunch of unprofessional unfair managers who power trip on you all day just to feel better about their miserable lives. They favour certain people over others. It's hard to make them feel smart and important because most of them are actually stupid and insignificant. Say goodbye to your hours if you accidentally rub off one of them the wrong way. The general manager was also racist and treated people of colour as secondary employees. You gotta act as a "model minority" if you are a minority employee or else you're not getting any hours. Even if you put in the most work you're still considered secondary. Overall the treatment from most managers was horrific, unfair and unprofessional. Again it's a fun place to work with great discounts, but for your health and sanity, don't work here.
