No work life balance, expected to work evening and weekends with no compensation managers pick favourites - those people are allowed to make there own hours. Often not allowed to take time off , expected to answer phone s and emails 24/7. Expect to be micro managed, all the while telling you how great it is to work for them - you should be happy to have a job in their mind

Spartan Controls is a great place to work. From the very first day that I had stepped foot in the Edmonton shop, I had quickly noticed the high level of morale amongst every individual there! Several years later and working from branch to branch, that level of morale is still growing along with the company and all of the good people that work there!

I loved every minute working for Spartan. To be honest when you have such a great mentor/boss in Jim Amar and Nafiz C. its hard to say that you don't fit in. I will go back with open arms if they choose to accept my application again.

The company culture at Spartan Controls is second to none. Being an employee owned company, it creates a strong work ethic, attracts people who take pride in their work, and a team so tight knit you'd think they were family! New president is progressive and energetic. Male or female, there is tons of room for advancement.

If you are afraid to work hard and potentially put in long hours when required, this is not likely the job for you.

Productive workplace with home-like atmosphere

As it goes, a typical day starts you off by arriving to work at 7:30, receiving your daily task, which varies, and working on the assembly line. it mostly involves intricate wiring of fuses within an electrical panel, of which it is built entirely by hand. Between the running of power tools, there is honestly not a whole lot of voices being heard. as such, many meeting seemed unproductive and uninformative. the ergonomically challenging situation has you at a disadvantage if you are taller than average. as you will be hunched over during the long hours of the day. That said, there is nothing quite as satisfying as constructing a panel by yourself from scratch.

Good location near the train. Nice facility and a good yoga studio and gym.

If you are over 30 don't waste your time. Will take too long to get into the share program for you to make money back.

A little bit low pay in terms of salary but made up by profit sharing quarterly, which can be challenging.

A redneck culture, little or no diversity with politics the main thing for you advance.

You're either working like crazy, or slacking off entirely

If you're lazy, and can luck into a group that has no clue what you're doing, you might love it here.
But, if you're a hard worker, watch out. The more you work, the more work you'll be given.
The pay is great, so if that's what matters to you, you'll be at the right company. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a life, keep looking.
I've never worked at another company where the phrase "drink the koolaid" was used this often. And it's true. Prepare to be best friends with your co-workers (and dump the rest - you won't have time).
BUT, a new president may mean things will improve now. The previous one was clueless.

Working with fun under a shelter of many old game players

Company is very good and has lot of potential to grow. But some old chaps are crazy working there from decades don't allow new people to set and work with confidence. Feel like each department has lobby of people. Try to demoralize you. Unfortunately, genuine people are not aware of these groupism, lobby and trouble makers. SAD SAD and BAD.

Make tons of money but too many unqualified managers.

The work was fine, the projects were intense but not unmanageable. Compensation is a combination of base salary + quarterly profit sharing + annual profit sharing (once you've purchased shares). The base salary is extremely low but the addition of quarterly profit sharing bumps it up to match industry. Every employee receives both. After year three every employee is offered a standard amount of shares based on the job role. These shares vest over 10 years and profit sharing for share owners is paid out in two installments annually. My offer letter indicated my salary would be matched to what is typical for someone with my experience and background however for three years I was paid consistently 20% to 60% more than the amount in the offer letter because of profit sharing.

It's not uncommon to work with a number of people who have been there for decades. These people are either very good at their job or are very good at playing games and keeping their head down. The game players would not succeed or make nearly what they make at Spartan anywhere else, they were just lucky enough to win the Spartan lottery by getting in early and buying shares.

Rules for working at Spartan Controls:
Never dispute your manager or GL. Don't expect to be considered for promotion based on hard work. You will be expected to work overtime.Good place to work if you are seeking slave like relationship they can fire you at any time for any reasons.There are people with mental problems with bad behavior and management doesn't care about that. You should be a somebody( old workers or GL) pat to get a permanent job.Kissing up is where it's at.
Not recommended for normal people.

Through this job, I learned that culture is so so so very important. There is not enough money in the world to make me work under these circumstances ever again I am
