Make no mistake you have to claim this money as self employed income! how to do it short form;1) you can deduct a fixed amount of vehicle expenses related to making the income, provided you follow the CRA's Rules hears the low down:2) you can claim .35 cents per KM for the first 5000km per year than .31/KM thereafter provided you kept your records correctly: the CRA will possibly ask you to produce mileage logs to support your claim, so rule number one is to keep detailed mileage logs of the miles you put on to earn income. i personally record mileage from first pick pick up to last delivery on every shift. essentially record your mileage at start of shift, mileage at delivery of each delivery and finishing mileage at shifts end. a $1 steno pad is great record the shift date, starting mileage and addresses of each pick up and delivery with ending mileage at each delivery, remember you can only claim mileage related to earning income, not personal use of your car.Example: you are new and claiming the first 5000k of your mileage or .35 per km. today was your first shiftyou did 7 delivery's and made a gross income of 67.00 including tips all of your runs where prepaid no cash runs-see note below. so lets say at your first pickup your odometer showed 24,550km and at last delivery your odometer showed 24,623 km you recorded your start mileage and shift date at top of the page, you use 1 page for each shift you do and flip to a new page for each shift, you recorded your pick up and delivery address for each run you did on a per line basis and your odometer reading at each deliverywrite pick up address on left side and delivery address with odometer reading to the right side.at end of shift calculate your mileage in this case 24623 - 24550 = 73 km used to earn income x .35 = $25.55 this is the amount you can claim as expenses against income so you note on this day run sheet that you made $67.00 and had $25.55 of deductible expenses your taxable income is 41.45 for this dayyes its a pain in the butt however keeping accurate records is important in figuring out your tax obligation at years end. make no mistake not reporting your income is a fatal mistake and failing to keep accurate logs eliminates the expenses you can claim to reduce your tax obligation in the case of a tax auditRéponse du 18 novembre 2018
