No. At least they didn't when I applied in 2016. I left in early 2020 and did not hear anything about background checks.
Dress pants, blazer, blouse, dress shoes. Basically just professional attire. They expect you to dress this way if you were to get the job, so it's best to show them that you are capable of dressing professionally.
Just make sure that you are approachable and friendly, not to 'beat around the bush', smile and be very present.

Have a better idea of what's going on in your company such as the merchandise being sold and the treatment of employees. I can't even tell you how many times something got marked to zero or pulled off the racks while I was working there because it was copyrighted or offensive. Also I worked there for a few years and the treatment I received from management just got worse and worse even though I was a model employee.
The managers gossip a lot and wont talk to you personally if they have an issue with you
The interview is very easy. The HR usually asked a lot about you and your personal goals and if you're in school the HR would also ask you about your course and what you're taking. Basic questions about what you know in retail will be asked so don't be nervous just listen to the relaxing sound of the store and answer like you're knowledgeable.
