Great Pay and Benefits, but little room for growth.

Pay is pretty good, and the benefits are the best I have ever seen, however being yelled at everyday by customers is something people can handle for only so long. Management is friendly and supportive, although you are constantly being monitored. If 5 minutes goes by after you have finished with a call, a supervisor on shift will message you asking why you haven't taken the next call. It's not a hard job if you like people and problem solving, but it takes a lot of emotional energy out of you.

Overall my experiences with Shaw were very positive. I enjoyed the culture and the people who worked there.

The biggest drawback is that as a large employer there were limited opportunities for advancement.

Still there is opportunity for those who work for it, and the company works with it's employees very well, and even has programs and policies in place to support part time employees that are also students.

Rapid change, little advancement, no culture

Management changed 4 times in 2.5 years, upper management once. Each change brought new parameters to meet and new expectations of performance. Made it impossible to advance. Changing departments out of customer service is impossible without formal education in each field. No company culture to speak of, you drink the shaw Koolaide or keep quiet. Bringing up legit issues that are being overlooked in meetings can result in write ups. Constant stress and pressure. Constant reducing target KPIs.
Best thing is the benefits. Benefits are hands down amazing.

Worked as a CSR at Shaw for about 1 year, I loved working there. Managers are cool, training is great you get properly trained and prepared for the job. Customer's can get angry/annoying but you have to have a lot of patience on this job otherwise you'll get into an argument everyday.

Large group fired before benefits kick in

Had friends fired right before their benefits kick in, still in training time. Pay is below min. wage, and they try to sell you tons of products to sign up for, for "employee discount" only to resume full charges after terminating you.

Shaw tech warned me before I started, the job is a revolving door of employees.

Inbound call centre focusing on technical support of Shaw's products. (Cable, internet and Phone service)

Located in the Downtown core in Vancouver, Canada.

Beautiful building overlooking the marina downtown.
Job culture was friendly and many good people worked with me here.
Some days, the difficulty was that customers would wait long periods of time waiting for someone to address their concern, and these incidents could last from a couple of hours to an entire shift.

On the positive side, the good days left you feeling fulfilled and useful to society.

Overall, a good place to work.

The view is amazing at the Shaw Tower, no matter where you are sitting (If you are facing the windows, of course). Due to the nature of my job, a lot of times customers call in upset, so I have to spend time getting them to calm down and find the reason their services are not working.

Thick skin is beneficial, but an empathetic approach is best.

If you are good with people and can handle many inquiries at once then I would suggest working at Shaw where you can deal with colleagues and customers alike. You will need to be super patient; if you are not patient then do not apply!

Loved my time at Shaw, I think its one of the best companies in Canada to work for.
Typical day at work was answering calls from customers, sometimes with less stress, sometimes with more, depending on is there outages or not.
Twice a week there was Healthy Snack, where you can get one piece of fruit and small yogurt.
I learned a lot about team work and met some great people.
About Shaw's management, I will just say that your people are what makes your company, do not treat them as criminals.
My co-workers are some of the best people I have met, always ready to help, curious and polite.
Hardest part of the job was leaving Shaw, nothing was hard for me to do, at Shaw.
Most enjoyable part of the job was sense of belonging, teamwork with people who walk customers shoes and they do it in world class environment with an awesome view of harbor.
