A typical day at work in the call centre includes dealing with customers most of who are friendly and understanding.
Management and staff are really friendly and helpful.

Workplace culture is wonderful.

Shaw is a very Good Company. The workplace atmosphere is very conducive. Great benefits and if you are the type that is really career focused.....It is a great place to Work. They have my highest recommendation.

Pace and expectations are reasonable, salary is livable and the work culture is relational. They do try to accommodate life needs in order to facilitate a healthy work/life balance.

Shaw laid of 1/4 (~4,000 employees) which has caused tremendous stress to all staff. Being overworked is the norm. The pay is relatively poor. Direction from corporate is never clear, always seems to have hidden agenda, and changes on a whim. Goals (KPI's) are hardly reasonable, even to a high-performer like myself until I completely burnt out. Advancing is somewhat easy, so long as you enjoy brown-nosing.

TL;DR-

Pros: Relatively good culture (but only amongst fellow peers), advancement somewhat easy (if you brown-nose and drink their Kool-Aid), can sometimes work from other sites, decent benefits


Cons: Pay is relatively low/poor, corporate change too much where direction seems unclear, management is shady, department goals (KPI's) are unreasonable, taking sick days hurt you long-term

Horrible Management Team. If you are a brown nose you get promoted. They have a bunch of clowns working as Supervisors. They say they want customer service but your penalized for taking your time to help the customers. I was once told if I can not fix the customers issue in 15 minutes tell them to call back. The overall issue with the company is that in most cities there is not a good path of advancement unless you want to be a technician in the field. Pay was low for the amount of work required and raises did not match to inflation

Shaw could be one of the best workplaces that you could be in if you've been assigned to a great leader. Majority of my friends and colleagues that has been blessed with a great leader there has improving careers or already has a very good career. There are a lot of bad leaders out there. Unfortunately, the only thing that the upper management will do is just have them attend a leadership training which is not effective because after that they will be back to their usual self and also because they are not being monitored if they have improved or not. Other than that,Shaw has good benefits and takes care most of their employees needs. Compensation is okay but not the best there is. So, if you're expecting a top of the line industry best compensation and benefits better look somewhere else. Hope that helps.

You are required to show up 15-30 minutes early so you can be pre-signed into the computer you will be working on for the day.

From there, you are micromanaged every second of the day.


The schedule you get compared to anyone else is based upon how many calls you take, as well as how many of those calls end up having the customer call back with a small portion of tenure. This makes the schedule change more frequently than some peoples underwear and hard to plan ahead with.


You are expected to actively show improvement in your KPI's and make progress towards other positions in the company, but are expected you use your own time to do most of the career development.


The company revolves around the relationships between their employees so when it comes to applying to other positions, you are better off making friends with everyone and applying rather than going above and beyond in your work.


Management deals with employee issues as though we were back in high school - I was suspended for 2 days for using a bad word in a private conversation 1.5 weeks after it happened that stopped me from being promoted to another department and then again 3 weeks later for a yet another single sarcastic sentence after being insulted myself.

I had a great time working for shaw. The training was thorough, the workday was well-timed for breaks, etc. The workload was heavy at times but management was always very supportive for all staff and accommodating of personal tasks and goals. The revolving shift schedule ( 2 week shift changes; 7-3am, 3-10, 10-5 random schedule) was too hard for me to balance with my kids as it did not provide any stability.

I loved the team and the company.

Busy, challenging. Can be stressful. Good culture. Location is not the greatest especially for buses. All in all, it’s still a good company to work for.

Shaw is a great place to work at, there are some issues though, you have hundreds of people who's only chance for advancement is to apply for the same 3 jobs.

Good Company to work for, the people that work there are great. The pay for the Vancouver area could be higher due to the living the cost being a lot higher here.

management sucks, they play favorites, if they like you, you can get away with murder, if they don't then they will find any little thing to write you up and eventually fire you. Managers have secret affairs with staff and other managers, personally witnessed one male Spanish manager who is married with a female coworker, most coworkers are great, made some lifelong friends but would not recommend working there.

Paying less than what they should still after 3 years of service they are paying what they will pay to a new employee despite being a very good performer.
When ever you apply for a different job will refuse without any solid reason just because I am not an as licker and work my shift honestly and dont do any buttering and exrtan chat.

Ok job for survival becaue benefits are good.

Otherwise $16/hr pay in 2020 is nothing.

I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to work from home. I've learned a lot about self motivation and self led training. Working from home means you don't get a lot of interaction with your coworkers and your boss so you have to be proactive in reaching out. Some of the nice things about working from home are that you can control your own environment as far as heat and lighting and you can wear whatever you want! :)

I have nothing in there but bad experience with employee. I have been trying to make friends over the course of employment. but people tend to avoid people of coloer due to Arab nationality

the pay was very low, no room for international people to improve and get promoted.
