The people i worked with were amazing !!! The managment sucked . Benifits were really good . Never any chance of a raise ... or advancement .
As a former CMA there is more expected of you then you can do . Almost impossible to meet management's expectations. Always going to work feeling like you have to watch your back ... and god forbid if you have more experience then YOUR supervisor ... Love the residents and former co workers they are amazing humans !!
Wonderful co workers ; and residents
Long hours ; ungreatful management when not doing thier bidding
The work environment is toxic. The management are very disorganized, but still seem to micromanage. The toxicity of management leeches down into the staff, and creates a very unhealthy environment to be part of. There is a lot of burnout, talking behind other’s backs, and badmouthing that takes place here. You’re never able to find time for your breaks, but when you do, management reams you out for not doing your job or getting things done in a timely manner. Worst place to work. An overhaul of the entire management and staff is desperately needed. Turnover is extremely high.
Management, barely any breaks, toxic work environment.
Although the company has good core values at the management level these values ate not demonstrated to the employees
At the site in which I worked it was a very stressful place....management showed very little interest in its employees and the employees work environment. The company over all has great core values but at management level these values are not demonstrated toward employees. At the site in which I worked the work environment was toxic...no team work...no interest from management for safety and there is no communication manage
I have worked for this company for a few years at different facilities and working in Truro has been by far the best. There is a lot of room for growth within the company. Great benefits and vacation. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to gain experience or to settle into a nice routine at the end of your career.
Management, benefits, vacation time, residents
Salary is not the best

Rewarding place to work, it did have its ups and downs...but the upside out did the downside in leaps and bounds.
I started working at Hillcrest Manor in October 1990. The nursing home switched ownership in 1995 I think. It was bought by. Shannex . A new building was built in 2000 and we moved over in 2001 or 2002. I stayed and moved as well. We saw a lot of changes through those years. We provided a safe and comforting place for seniors and others who needed this service. I myself spent most of my working years there in the dementia unit...which can be very challenging at times. As I explained , we provided assistance with daily needs. Getting up, washing up, toileting, help with meals and getting ready for bed etc.
Paid breaks, recognition by managers and clients pay incentives for working nights and weekends.
Long hours..ie 12 hour shifts and often worked short staffed.
Good staff, good clients, its hard work! Good work but can be tough if hard work and constantly being busy is your thing, then this is the job for you!
great personalities always around
Hot, the elderly get cold easy so there is usually heat on

Had a mentor to show us students the daily routine of the residents. What you learn could be different everyday depending on their health.Time management is important where other wokers might need the shower room. Most co-workers do try to help you with lifts, truns, transfere depending on the need of the client. The hardest is when you can not find someone to help you do to a miss happen with another client or being short handed trying to find another co-worker to get the job done. Or when another co-worker askes why can't you do it yourselve others can, when you know your not phyiscally strong enough to turn a resident on their side to change them especially when they have bed sores broken leg ect. and the resident can be easyly confused, and being a causal there needs to be a fast way to build that trust, most do understand when their still independent. And sometimes finding that right outfit for the client is the funest, being an esthetician I do enjoy bring that spa like atmosphere to the beging of one days is a great way to start the day, and that is just getting yourself dressed hair done and ready for breakfast.Knowing the clients remember who you are a comfortable feeling for both residents and worker's.
being a student, there was more time one on one with the resident.
every nusing floor is a different pass
having laughs and recongnational fun is always a great thing to share from one another, sometimes that is when you learn the most from a person.
Well a typical day at work being a causal mosty would start short handed with staff, reallizing how great the team would pull together and do our best to get everything needed done. Even the RN's and LPN's willing to help the cca's,some went beyound their duties for the residents needs and wants. Time management is very important when there needs to be 2 cca's for lifts turns and transferes.I enjoy the part of the job is, one being only a couple of years doing my work as a cca, what i have acheived on my own with the little things like doing my frist complete bed change, but as my years as an master esthetician and caring through as a cca it is when you make someone feel better about themselves that is what give's you the biggest smile. Teaching them about computer game's. I have no childeren, yet, and the residents are my world, they touch my heart every day and to know at a young age the importants of what life means to a person is the one wish that means the most to be able to achive. I always told the school friends i went to school with is, always go an visite your grandparents even when their not well.
wearing uniforms, making someone feel great about themselves.
yes, when it's 16hr days, being short handed with staff.
