not bad but bit busy and disorganized but fairly workable, very long hours or disoriented schedule. work environment is great but forced to move around alot

Hard labor with little reward to be frank

The job wouldn't be so bad if management was more robust. Instead, you find yourself breaking your back for minimum wage with tips - for those of us who actually get it because believe me, a lot of owners cheat the tips - when you could be doing something less demanding and more lucrative tbh... Working the barista machine IS fun tho, and you get to have all your fav drinks / pastries.

Productive and fun

I loved working here. Lots of customer service experience. Expect fast passes and good relationship! The only down side was the early mornings. Other than that it was good

Good for students

If you are a student and don’t have any prior experience, second Cup can be a good place to start. However, in a long term you should not rely on this job.

Great place

Friendly staff , good atmosphere, pleasant working space, many regulars so, with time, it becomes easier, many regulars always order the same coffee.

Fun workplace

Was a good job while it lasted, good Co workers and owner. Customers were friendly and and visit frequently. Could get busy at times, but was jot stressful.

not bad, could have better scheduling and owner could be a little more involved

honestly the employees were running the cafe from stock to serve. everyone was friendly (very few unpleasant customers or coworkers) but its not really the place to learn customer service bc its so casual and often empty. owner was in on most weekends but would randomly skip weeks and if you wanted to get in touch you had to message them and wait around 24hrs.

Free food and drinks. Great coworkers. But hours weren't ideal

Hours were long 6 AM to 2 PM or 2 PM to 10 PM. But the people were nice and there was a sense of teamwork behind the counter to get drinks out to customers. Hourly wage was minimum wage for everyone. No room to grow, which was why I left. I liked getting free food and drinks though!

Fast paced and stressful

Management was horrible and the experience could have been great if the owner and manager cared about their employees. Hours were guaranteed but management scheduled people out of their availabilities.

Stressful place to work

My interview was over the phone as they were desperate for hires. I filled out 0 paper work(no tax forms, nothing) when I started working here and was never asked to fill out anything. I never saw any pay stubs and you had to pull hairs to get them, (if you ever got them) even after asking for them multiple times. Most of the staff had to pay on their taxes because not enough was being off even after discussing this with the owners.Other employees were allowed to show up late or NCNS with no repercussions. This happened all the time. If someone called in sick or never showed up the staff working that day were expected to stay overtime and close even if they started at 6am.Repairs went unchanged for months. Staff was told/enforced to sell expired food items to drive thru customers, and grind non flavoured coffee in the flavoured grinder even after customers expressed allergies and complaints. If you want a barista job where you have to fix toilets, clean up human feces, be berated by managers to other staff behind your back, work long hours, and never have time off, this is the job for you!

For a part time in school, its ok, but everything else was awful. (corporate locations)

It was ok, but the more I worked here, the more I hated. You dont get paid enough for what you do and half the time you do your bosses job without their benefits. It's frustrating. Minimum wage for running an entire store is robbery. The stuff you do isnt difficult per say, but the longer you work the more responsibilities you have without the reward. I ended up doing order processing, inventory checking, and even invoicing for my boss because they forgot. Oh and the management, dont even get me started. Half the time I feel like they dont even listen to your schedule until you snap at them. During my last year of college, I had the largest workload. I couldnt work for a majority of the weekday yet my boss kept calling me in asking if I could work, and even BEGGED me in the group chat. It was frustrating. However I cant be too mad at my manager, because recently, more corporate managers are forced to manage 2 different locations at once, which I can only assume is alot on them as well.Tips are so-so, Honestly some customers you meet are really nice and tip decently and it depends on the location but dont be surprised if you dont get alot of tips because in the year 2022 this company still has NOT moved on from cash only tips. Dealing with corporate is as frustrating as it sounds, as they believe that usually its 1 person closing per shift. Really? and youre going to pay me minimum wage to run an entire store by myself? all the time? cool. Thanks.oh and good luck going on break when You're by yourself all the time.

Avoid

Pros: Customers are better than other service jobs. Cons: Company refuses to spend money to help stores run smoothly. No compensation for additional work outside your job title. Understaffed, essentially no breaks because you’ll be working alone or busy. If you work here, request training.

Horrible management, stressful work environment

The worst job I’ve ever had. After two weeks of working their I was scheduled to work alone in the store with barely any training. Manager was never available to call if I had emergencies while alone which lead to many stressful situations. Employees were commonly scheduled for 8+ hour shifts completely alone. During these shifts you’d get a pay cut for a break that you weren’t even able to take since you’re running the store by yourself. By far the most stressful job I’ve had and definitely not worth the minimum wage payment.

Very unorganized management

Was supposed to work there as a summer job but was immediately let go after a couple days because someone, who alerted them very late but also had more experience, came in. Manager wasn't organized at all, even when messaging me to begin working.

Its an great opportunity to work for those who are currently studying whilevat the same time working here it's awesome by having an amazing team who support you all the time for you to succeed.

Loved working here! Just wish the pay was better, super fast paced! Learned a lot about coffee etc. Unfortunately the location has temporary closed. Was offered at another location but did not work with distance.

Great place to work

I loved my time as a barista at Second Cup. It was the perfect job for me while I was studying in university. There is a significant difference between corporate run stores and franchise run stores, so be mindful of that.

One of the worst places I've ever worked at.

All the work that you do and put in in such a corporate, goes unappreciated... Not to mention that they will have you do A LOT of work... Most of which won't be listed under your job responsibilities... The management is the worst of their kind... They don't treat employees like humans.

Good first job I guess, I don’t ave much to say. My coworkers were great! They were so nice. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. My manager was ok.
