Would give 0 stars if I could

Company is growing too fast for its own good, can never get a specialist in to help because they are always opening new stores. The turnover rate is ridiculous and the managers treat you terrible if you don't give your life to the company. I will never work for any of these people again in my life. I only give job security a 3 because it is a union so you kinda have to try to get fired honestly.

Points positifs

Free item every week

Points négatifs

Really good first job

They did group training a couple days after the interview and gave each of the hires two training shifts. The people were always supportive positive, and patient when someone was new. There was never less than 1 person per shift, so you never had to worry about being understaffed. Management knows what they're doing and are very professional in dealing with problems. They also work around your schedule if you're a high school or university student, which is really nice.

Points positifs

Good training, good people, good management

Points négatifs

Crowded lunchroom

Best place to work

I worked here for about 4 months. I had to move to Toronto that’s why i had to leave my job which I never wanted to. Management is so nice. All are so helpful. I would say it’s the best place to work.

Points positifs

You get extra perks on your save on card. Sometimes free stuff.

A super great place to work and grow.

Its a awesome place to work. You are trated like family. There is always room for advancement within the store and company. Still love to work for them, but a store is not in my area now.

Points positifs

They have surprise lunchions, do fundraisers for different groups

Points négatifs

Sometimes not enough hours..

Uncommunicative management and stressful work environment.

Although this job offers a good introduction to a retail work environment, a prolonged stays reveals an unorganized and messy, and unprofessional the work ethic. Many nice and welcoming employees, but does have some stingy or unwelcoming personnel.

Points positifs

Good training, friendly co-workers

Points négatifs

Poor management communication and stressful workplace

Good minimum wage job

This company is unionized which is a good thing but also occasionally has its drawbacks. I really enjoyed worked with such a dynamic group of individuals and I truly learned so much from my time there. I would recommend working for this company because they do take care of you and have multiple resources for everyone no matter their situation. My only issue was the general neativity of working in a grocery store. But it was a mostly enjoyable place to work.

Do not believe the hype.

Long time workers of the company will tell you, Save On Foods used to be a great place to work. But as it is now, it's simply not worth it. Being part of a Union is nice, except the grade A's get much better pay. Don't expect a raise anytime soon, and when you finally get one it will only be by 10 cents. The company values its dated and disappointing points system, so much so that they decided giving employees 10% off a purchase or 30x the points, was better than an extra 2$ hazard pay during this pandemic. Perhaps the points system was great when they used to give out blenders and wine fridges, but now its simply small grocery items, and if you save your points for a few years, part of the money towards a trip. The prices are outrageous, little to no discount is given, and with how the scheduling and hours as well as raises are done, is simply not worth it. If you want to find unhappy workers, just go to your local save on foods.

Points positifs

Part of a Union, Benefits if you get them

Points négatifs

Subpar "Perks", Disorginized and Unprofessional Management (Newton Location)

A busy work enviroment with friendly people.

Everyone was quite kind to each other, and the managers were understanding, shifts could get very busy and hectic, but I never felt particularly stressed, just had my hands full.

Points positifs

Encouraging work space.

Points négatifs

Difficult weekends.

Pays the bills

Unless you been there forever or work 24 hours or less, so you can manipulate your availability, this job is horrible if you want a life. grid A employees (a pay grid that doesn’t exist anymore) get everything and are rude to the grid B members who haven’t been there for many years. They expect the same work ethic from newbies that they had when they were first hired but those member have nothing to work towards to benefit their life like they had when first starting out and the training is almost non-existent. Management cycles out sometime too fast or too slow. It’s almost as if staff is happy with management that means they need to leave so they can put a shittier manager in. Some management are glorified grocery clerks , give those tasks to a supervisor or general clerk and do MANAGEMENT things! The union(UFCW) cares more about acquiring new members from all sorts of companies. The care for the members has gone out the window over the years they just want to accumulate more members so they can get paid more. As a grid b member I do a better job then a grid A but constantly get the shaft cuz of “seniority”

Points positifs

If you work 24 hour or less you can’t manipulate what hours you work good staff, union

Points négatifs

Union, Daily shift changes for new people, low pay and the pay raise scale takes you forever to make good money, company hires too many teenagers or young adults unavailable during the day

Good for a first job

My worst days are when I get overwhelmed with the workload or get treated harshly, but my best days make me feel like I've spent the day getting things done with friends and making customers happy--the latter outnumber the former. Most coworkers and customers are very nice and the work itself is predictable and generally manageable. I recommend working mostly on weekends, I've found the mon-fri full timers can take work too seriously.

Points positifs

Good opportunities for making friends, work is simple, the lady who writes the schedules is very nice :)

Points négatifs

Often get called in on my days off, hard to form relationships/communicate with management

Busy workplace most times. at one time we received 2 complimentary tickets to most shows and a meal before the show or game.

Shifts were 12 hours and we were often understaffed. Always more supervisors than workers. The salary was below many other similar places and there was no pension. Worked alone at night and weekends (unless there was a show or WHL hockey game).

Points négatifs

12 hour shifts, often understaffed, no pension

Run don't walk away from this Company

Worst company lied to people during the Covid crisis. Said they would look after you if you stayed and worked but what the really meant is that if you started with symptoms you could go on government assistance like the rest of the country. Just lie after lie!! anything to keep it going at the possible cost of a life.

Points positifs

None

Points négatifs

company lies

Terrible, would not work there if you can avoid.

Everyday I came into work I was incredibly stressed, management is no help and is quite lazy. They expect you to do everything yourself and correctly (even being newly hired). If you ask questions, they get mad. If you don't ask questions but mess up even a little bit, they also get mad. Management also is very condescending and the pay is not worth the stress they put you through. My manager always made me feel as though I was about to be written up/fired. They make it seem like this can be a long-term thing, for the majority its not. I also was scheduled to work part-time (as I was a first-year university student taking a full class load), they'd schedule me for around 30-35 hours per week. When there were weeks I had scheduled breaks and was able to work, they'd schedule me for about 10.If you can, stay away.

Points positifs

10% discount, Coworkers were nice

Points négatifs

Long hours, little help, management is terrible

Fun energizing team, fair management

I loved working at Save-On-Foods. I worked in the personal shopping and only left because I moved back to Québec, but it was my favourite job I have had. The team was so friendly, the job was fun, and the management was very fair.

Points positifs

Free food in staff room, flexible schedule, supportive management

Points négatifs

On feet a lot, work under pressure

Cheap company owned by a billionaire.

Benefits?1. Get paid every Friday. A benefit?2. Support local growers. " " .3. Be involved in your community (on your own time).4. Work in a team environment.5. We love to have fun!!You likely won't get enough hours to be considered full-time, you will still work 32 hours a week over 4-5 days, you can forget about real benefits. Need even skinflint benefits, got a family? You won't get any help here. You are allowed to pay union dues though.

Points positifs

You can quit anytime you want.

Points négatifs

Good for when your a kid maybe.

It was pretty easy to work here. The staff were alright. But management was pretty bad. Very judgemental and rude. Seemed pretty lazy too. Good thing is, the work is easy, pretty much anyone could do it.

Points positifs

Easy tasks

Points négatifs

Bad management
