Ok for a first job

Its ok for your first job but I suggest that you leave as soon as you can get a job you'll actually like or your mental health is gonna go down the drain.Management is usually a joke and they tend to not care about you just the numbers.

Points positifs

Promotions over time

Points négatifs

Bad Management.

Very poor management/Leads

OMG! I've never witness such poor disrespectful management & Leads.Unsupportive, lack of trust towards drivers, very clicky within themselves and with other drivers. Getting angry with drivers of asking questions to understand better of things...which in turn they become very defensive and running & whining to the head leads instead being mature to have a conversation to clarify things. Which thereafter...they ignore and don't acknowledge you. This becomes stressful and makes you not want to be there in that toxic environment!!I've noticed senior drivers who train new drivers....not doing a very good job of doing so. This is very disheartening and you wonder why this drivers quit so soon from not being training properly.Anyways....I would not recommend anyone becoming a driver unless your desperate of needing a job for the short term.

Points positifs

snaks offered in the lunch room

Points négatifs

met some very nice drivers...only a handful

Excellent advancement opportunities

This is one of the few places of employment left that you can be hired for an entry level position and be trained for a career. Promotions and training take place within the company for the most part. No matter what job you are hired for, hard work and service can turn into management in time.

Points positifs

In house promotion and training

Points négatifs

Not all promotions keep you in the same location

If you have nowhere else to go

It's okay. Management doesn't care about you, only cares about numbers. You're extremely overworked and hella underpaid and it just gets worse as you work your way up. I got to CSS before I quit because mentally this place was Gunna kill me. Just work here part time until you get your dream job. They do have a back to school programme however it's only for up to 1000 dollars and only if you're going back to school for your masters specifically.

Points négatifs

Great staff members

The people are great, the managers need to go back to basics and learn some compassion, sensitivity, respect, overall….remember the people that work for you are human beings…just like you. We are not slaves or puppets…we are human beings…just like you!! Treat others the way you want to be treated and your family members too. Have a heart and do the right thing!!!

Bad and constantly getting worse

I worked here multiple years. Hoped things would improve but they only got worse. Employees are just a means to generate profit, their well-being is low priority. Stay away!!

Descent place to work

Most of the people are descent to be around, lots of work to do. People try to be happy which is nice. Management has a tendency to give you more responsibilities even if you don't want them. I would recommend this place to anyone that just wants to work.

Points positifs

Lots of work and some descent people

Points négatifs

Some not so descent people but they don't usually last long

Avoid this place

Poor pay, low hours, management don't care. They get paid way more than employees (who get minimum wage and paid weekly so cheques barely cover enough to last until the next week) I nearly got fired for something another off duty employee did toward a customer on their day off; simply because we share a similar hair color and I was tbe kne on shift that day. Management doesn't investigate they simply penalize with no due diligence. (They can always get another butt in the seat) cashiers barely make any hours. The least I've seen is 8 hours in one week. Sometimes broken into teo half days. The job is OK for a student but not worth your time or self respect otherwise.

Points positifs

A pay cheque

Points négatifs

Everything else

Takes your time and life away

Former Save-on-Foods employee here. I worked there for almost 2 and a half years. Let me start off by stating the shifts change all the time, get ready to sign your free time away. You are only allowed to request one day off per week where they can't schedule you. Minimum 8 hours a week, however they always ask you to work 40 hours if possible. Managers pick favourites with staff; I was there almost 2 and a half years and never moved to other departments despite always asking to try other departments. Meanwhile, people who hadn't even finished probation were promoted to management with better pay and hours. Also they require doctors notes during COVID and force you to sign a waiver stating you're not sick whether you are or not. Turnover rate is high. My interview went great back in 2019, however that manager has left to the Oak Bay store. Since COVID started, they offer staff either 10% off or 30x points, and one free item of their choosing a week. Pay stubs aren't given out, you have to print them or save them online. Schedules are found online.

Awful

The store is ok, but the management is not good, some supervisors are lovely, others just walk past and not speak, co workers don't speak, two faced etc. Not a very friendly place to work. They drop and change your hours constantly.Avoid Lansdowne Store

Dedicated and fun workplace

Ecomm is one of the best department you can have. It keeps you busy and you are pretty much working for yourself. Its a high and slow environment there , the customers are sweet and the coworkers are fun to work with.

Points positifs

Free breaks

Points négatifs

You get paid extra on holidays if you worked longer then 32 hrs

An ok job if looking for a part-time position

I work in the produce department, and a typical day at work involves quality checking products and making sure all of them are in good condition. Its all about checking and discarding the bad quality/expired products and just restocking everything. Then when you're done you record EVERYTHING that is wasted to make sure it gets put in the system, so they can see the expenses of all that's wasted. That is the main thing to do in the entire produce department. Let alone all the other side chores you have to do, such as sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, changing price tags, sanitation, etc. Now imagine trying to do all that within 4 HOURS. There's a lot of work to do, especially for the small shifts they give you. Most of the time I barely get any hours and I'd be lucky to get over 20 hours or more.Management is strict and expect you to do and finish all your chores. They want you to be fast and accurate with your chores, yet if I do that, my duties and responsibilities become sub par. I even experienced a few employees lose their jobs due to them being slow, even though they've been here less than 3 months. The benefits are alright, you get 10% off groceries or 30 times the points from the rewards card. They also sometimes give out free food in the lunch room and you also get some in the team member offers from the rewards card. But they do also have cool stuff in their team member website, such as wellness programs, courses and other stuff to read and learn about, training videos, and other useful links and information. Overall, Save on Foods is good if you're looking for part-time -

Points positifs

Free food/items sometimes, mostly flexible schedule, Team member website

Points négatifs

short shifts, barely any hours a week, strict management, workload

Hostile work environment with bias uncaring management

I recommend working anywhere else unless you want to be subject to being mistreated in a day to day basis. The harder you work the worse off you are, management is insanely bias with employees aswell as workloads and is overall rude and ignorant. Some of the people there are great but others are entitled and do the most to make you feel bad in the workplace. Union is also useless.

Points positifs

Hours, some coworkers

Points négatifs

Bad management, hostile environment

Fun workplace

It was overall a nice place to work at with job security, benefits and most important multicultural working environment. You will get help at every single step of your work, if needed.

Points positifs

Free lunches sometimes.
