Dangerous and unsafe working conditions concerning firearms safety and handling of dangerous tools. Contract workers are relied on for the majority of work except ciritcal roles but are treated as less than and expected to do as much as the far more experienced workers. Job will vary everyday as will the standards expected of you. Too much focus on pumping out product to meet quotas and no attention given to morale. I would highly recommend not working here if you truly enjoy/respect firearms, the disrespect and lack of quality put into these weapons hurt my soul.
Unique opportunity, overtime, merchandise discount
Toxic work environment, dangerous, low care in product
so i worked here in 2014 for 5 to 7 months approximatly. Ran 2 different stations and exceded daily quota. Then they were give a multi million dollar grant to expand, then they lay off ppl. I never was called back, was quite upsetting as i was an over acheiver. Didnt matter tho i must have been lost in paper work. Approx 3 weeks ago 6 years later i was re hired. Worked a week moving around different stations learning. Then i was put to an 8 hr straight sitting and being hunched over doing triggers. I stuck it out for 4 to 5 days and mentioned very nicely anyway i could be moved to a station that i wouldnt be sitting all shift, as it is pretty much the only station your sitting in. I was in an accident years ago its rough for me to sit that long and neck hunched over. 20 mins later called into H.R fired. I gave savage a 2nd chance as they never called me back years ago. They really gave it to me this time. They should be ashamed of themselves. Spread the word. Ive alteady sold 2 of there products that i owned. Terrible company. This really upset me. I will be in contact with other parties regarding what happened here. I worked 9 days. They let me go on a friday very rudly and unprofessionaly.
some great workers here very socialble and great people.
metal shavings in your clothes, eyes, take home with you in your car etc..
Savage Arms is a great place to work. It is fast-paced but management takes all the precautions they need to ensure everybody's safety while maintaining efficiency. It feels like everyone is family when working for Savage. There are plenty of employee incentives to keep up moral. During the summer it can be difficult to work in the heat, but there are plenty of heat breaks to avoid being over heated. The factory can also get quite loud with machines, but there is safety equipment to aid with that.
Employee incentives, good support system, overtime pay, benefits
Summer can be hot in the factory & it can be loud
Dominating and unprofessional Managers Especially Engineering and Production. Too Much of Racism. They don't listen to your opinion. Toxic work culture and treat you like slaves. No Job guarantee, can be Fired anytime.
I seriously can't find any.
expect you to stay for long hours with no pay.

The work is fun but some of the people who have worked there for many years have gotten lazy and expect all the new contract workers to do all the work for them. When it comes time to lay people off they choose all the new hard workers instead of replacing the old ones who do nothing. Kind of annoying how they run the place but it will never change because they can not afford to pay out the old workers that have been there for ever.
Typical day at work is never boring and the work is fast paced. The people are great and dedicated to their jobs and the company. We are given great catered meals on special occasions and gift cards for local stores. These are great perks!
Professional Development/Training Opportunities
If you love guns this is a great job for you. you'll get a discount on guns from working there. They are constantly hiring as someone is getting fired weekly or unable to put up with their standards. I recommend if in need for a job
Discount on guns
Extremely warm in the summer/ In lakefield
Worked on a set schedule other than when the occasional overtime came available. Learned to operate multiple types of machinery, the importance of quality control as well as the final auditors position. Pretty well everyone on shift got along, if they didn't the individuals would keep it to themselves. Hardest part of the job was change over to a product that wasn't manufactured on a regular basis. Most enjoyable part of the job was the co-workers and know what the expectations were for each day. Everyone worked to a common goal and worked well together
set schedule, weekends off, holdiays off, plant shutdown
shift supervisor at the time.
Working at Savage Arms I've been given the opportunity to learn in depth the business of manufacturing. I've worked in the sales end of things, I get to see the production side as well as the engineering side. It's a very well balanced work environment and a very education place to work.
Savage Arms has many amazing hard workers. The supervisors make it a fun place to work but get the job done. My most enjoyable part of the job is the people I work with, and knowing that the rifle i am putting together, will be used by someone.
Repetative, Short breaks
Strong Management. An excellent atmosphere great coworkers. Wonderful location in beautiful Lakefield, Ontario. A manufacturing facility producing quality rifles in Lakefield
The work force at savage is built up of a group of amazing people the management on the other hand is hit or miss. If you enjoy working in a unethical work environment which gives meetings on ethics and morals than this is the place for u.
A typical day for me was 8 hours of grinding steel and ensuring that order cards were placed with the appropriate bins of receivers/carts of barrels. The management was 50/50, half of the supervisors deserved their position, and half of them received the promotion due to personal connections (ie. a friend of a friend). My co-workers who were full-time were hard working people who took pride in their job, the part-time employees were hired for the summer or on contract and in general were unmotivated, unfocused workers who harmed the quality of our product. The hardest part of the job was the repetition of doing the same thing every day for 8 hours, and the most enjoyable was seeing the finished product and taking pride in knowing that I did a good job.
