Unethical practices and poor management decision
Unethical if not illegal hiring process. They ask for details like SIN, T-4 and payslips BEFORE even offering an employment contract.

During the hiring process, Ryan will tell you that the position you applied for no longer exists as the management has changed its mind. Don't make the mistake of turning down other offers like I did, because they can change their mind midway and leave you stranded. Highly unprofessional.

Would not recommend Canadian Tax Technology team
Upon accepting job offer you are asked to provide salary information for last 5 years of employment.

Team manager is reluctant to entertain questions about advancement in technology and ways to improve processes. This is driven in part by a protectionist attitude towards in Canadian Operations. It shields Canadian operations so that US and/or India technology teams cannot interfere with existing processes, even if it would make improvements and save millions.

Manager is a weak leader but will not be replaced because of proximity to retirement. Has difficulty retaining employees with the ability to provide opinions and constructive feedback.


If you speak up, HR provides little support to employee. Managers rights trump employees. (Have a Labour lawyer handy.) In fact, rumour has it that they had a 'special incentive' for employees who wanted to leave. They were offered a padded severance package if they packed up on their own, if they felt they didn't want to be with the company.


Overall, it is a small company attitude with big company aspirations. Unless you are a tax accountant past your desire to be a conventional employee, go elsewhere. They talk a good game, but at the end you are a resource that is just as disposable as an old tissue.
