Roots is a fun high piece sometimes slow working environment. Management was awesome. We got stuff done but we’re still able to have a conversation with each other

I worked at Roots for apprx. 2.5 years, as a Sales Associate and then as a Team Leader (Keyholder).
The Store Manager was extremely moody, inconsistent, and known for bullying certain employees (thankfully not me).

My coworkers were excellent - they did hire well (this was thanks to the Assistant Manger, who actually was quite good).

But the pay was not great, you are required to purchase the clothes (which are still overpriced, even despite the employee discount), the floors will be hard on your feet, and the manager was not held accountable (even after employees made complaints to the district manager, with multiple statements).

There are many better places to work for the same pay, and less stress from mentally unstable management.

Roots is an amazing place to work the staff and management treat you like family! It's a great first time job. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a part-time job or full-time work to apply, a lot of room for growth.

I am forever grateful to have my “Roots family”. It’s such a collaborative workplace, and when times get busy and days get hard I know I can count on my coworkers to help me get through it.

Roots was an amazing highschool job. I worked with amazing people who were always in a good mood and did their work. They made work easier, and the customers were usually nice. It was just a part-time job, but I loved it. I also loved having a discount on my favourite clothes

You're promised a 5 hour shift and sent home after 3 hours. You try to call in sick with the flu and they still make you come in for the minimum 3 hours or turn you down when you ask to leave early due to illness. I've been in the room multiple times while the managers are talking badly about the sales associates. We're pressured to make sales on expensive items to the point where we're practically harassing customers. During the holiday season, you cannot leave the store after close until it's spotless, even if that means staying hours after you were meant to leave. On multiple occasions, I've been scheduled outside of my availability.
The discount - 50% - is amazing but it's not good enough when you're expected to wear the current line of clothes to shift and aren't being given enough hours to actually afford it.

Roots is a very fun place to work! all the people are very nice and everyone is always trying to help each other. no competition, its a safe environment to ask questions, etc

Management is really important. Good management will help you learn fast and develop your confidence. However, bad management will defeat your passion and bring you to suffer.

stress free work environment with very nice management. work gets busy during busy retail seasons like Christmas and new year. best part about the job is interacting with many customers and clients of Roots

Where I work the environmental with the store manager is pretty toxic along with the assistant manager you gotta be fake with them like literally. The employees are pretty good when they want to be the hours are based on how much they really like you and also how well you work and how fast you can work

The atmosphere and people are great. The job can be hard and stressful at times but it is mostly relaxed. I would recommend this job for students or people who just finished school. I would not recommend this job for anyone that has high financial needs.

Typically a day at work is quieter during the day but picks up after 6:00 or so once people are home from work and finished dinner. The employees are very kind and easy to work with also which makes it less stressful while working. The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting all kinds of different people when I am at work, conversing with customers, and being able to help people feel good about themselves while choosing clothes.

I worked in a slow location and thus, if there is not a sale then not many people would come into the store. Opens and closes were easy because not many people would mess with the display so not much refolding was needed. However, the customers and clientele were extremely friendly and nice to talk to.

Interactive workplace with constant overturn of staff, product and visuals. Everyone would preform all daily tasks, no matter the position. Daily, weekly and monthly goals are encouraged to achieve starting from sales to email captures.

Fun workplace. Diverse. Management team is awesome. People are even more fun to work with. However, it is retail so you end up doing a lot of repetitive work.

Worst part time job I've ever had. The Ottawa store needs to fire the manager. He is demanding and will not promote those who are loyal good employees. Very reluctant to give time off to students, and if you do request time off (for example exam days) he will punish you by giving you no shifts. Closes take 30 minutes to an hour longer than you are scheduled.

Great place to work. Some days go buy very slowly, especially during the week and being located at the mall. Very tidy. Built good relationships with employees. Management is okay.

I worked at the Roots in Thunderbay. The management was awful. She bullied employees and talked about them behind their backs. There were many threats to be written up to so many different employees over instances that did not require someone to be written up. Every shift I was scared to do anything as the management would often pull you aside in the store and yell at you about something instead of training/teaching. She would do so in front of other co-workers and costumers. She had also verbally stated that she would never hire a person of color and was very adamant about making sure that when people of color would come into our store to shop that they were followed uncomfortably close because she thought they would shoplift. At one point I had told her that I did not believe the person was shoplifting and that I was uncomfortable with how I was making the customer feel. I was told by management that if I wasn't able to do the job as she wanted that I would be fired. After this situation, I began to stand up for myself when at work. This lead to me eventually putting in my two-week notice. After I gave my two-weeks, the manager "fired" me without telling me. I had found out because I went to log into my work schedule and my employee number had been removed. I proceeded to ask a co-worker if I was on the schedule and they said that the manager had been talking to the other employees about how she "fired me". I then went into the store to confront her about this and was told that I was fired because I was unable to perform tasks properly. Keep in mind that I have never been - plus...

Your company needs to care more about your employees and less about meeting quota. You have people coming and going like a revolving door instead of actually taking the time to help struggling employees. Never work for them.
