Roots is a very big chain in Canada. Many customers come in and out sending is your duty to make sure their every need is met. The most enjoyable part of the job is the work environment and interacting with customers.

Working here has been an utter most struggle. Starting from the terrible management that demands more than what I'm paid to do to doing literally everything I can and more for a job that pays me minimum wage while other colleagues do half of what I do and get more hours and tribute.

Hours are not the only issue though, when managers dismantle and deteriorate your own energy just by being present in the workplace because of the lack of consideration they have for their own employees. When raising their voices and demanding has became the fundamental communication system in their workplace.

Unfortunately, Roots does not have a lot of growth opportunities outside of the in-store environment.

You will not be promoted based on your work ethic or skill, but instead have those skills exploited until you're completely burnt out.


You get a really great discount on merchandise!

You're promised a 5 hour shift and sent home after 3 hours. You try to call in sick with the flu and they still make you come in for the minimum 3 hours or turn you down when you ask to leave early due to illness. I've been in the room multiple times while the managers are talking badly about the sales associates. We're pressured to make sales on expensive items to the point where we're practically harassing customers. During the holiday season, you cannot leave the store after close until it's spotless, even if that means staying hours after you were meant to leave. On multiple occasions, I've been scheduled outside of my availability.
The discount - 50% - is amazing but it's not good enough when you're expected to wear the current line of clothes to shift and aren't being given enough hours to actually afford it.

Roots is a very fun place to work! all the people are very nice and everyone is always trying to help each other. no competition, its a safe environment to ask questions, etc

Mis meses de trabajo en esta compañía no podrían haber sido mejores, la compañía es muy relajada y las personas que trabajan en la tienda muy simpáticas y siempre dispuestas a ayudarte y a enseñarte nuevas cosas. No dejas de aprender y es una muy buena oportunidad para poner tus habilidades de servicio al cliente a prueba.

depends on the people you work with. most of the staff were friendly. found one of the main managers to be quiet unfair and not considerate towards emergency situations.

Roots has a very good working culture. Very friendly, and easy-going and yet professional. Like other bigger companies, it's not very nimble on making decisions. But overall, it's a good company to work with.

Where I work the environmental with the store manager is pretty toxic along with the assistant manager you gotta be fake with them like literally. The employees are pretty good when they want to be the hours are based on how much they really like you and also how well you work and how fast you can work

the workday wasn't hard, however, management ensured our day was miserable. Out of maybe seven supervisors and managers, two-three were tolerable. They were constantly breathing down our neck about anything that was done. If we were folding clothes, we'd be asked why aren't we talking to customers. If we were talking to customers, we'd be asked why the store wasn't at its peak appearance. Not to mention that Roots' folding standards are some of the highest I've ever worked at.

I did not enjoy working here at all, and everyone that I've spoken to that has worked at different Root's locations than I had, say the same thing. There is no positive feedback at all, it's always "what are you doing wrong and here's why it's wrong" and then they continue to make a hostile work environment for others as they call other employees out by name. I don't recommend working at Roots unless you have a kink for dehumanization.


They promise flexibility with scheduling, yet they don't abide by what they say. I booked a single day off MONTHS in advance, and then after having it reviewed, I was told they wouldn't be able to give it to me off. The only good thing about Roots was their discount policy and their app for scheduling, as it was made easy to switch shifts and book days off.


If I could give less than one-star I would.

Fun workplace. Diverse. Management team is awesome. People are even more fun to work with. However, it is retail so you end up doing a lot of repetitive work.

A great place to work and a good environment overall. Learned great customer service skills and learned to work productively. Management definitely knew what they were doing.

The management is very unprofessional and doesn't follow the OHS accordingly. Staff does not get many hours (more employees than hours to give) as they continue to hire more.

When I attend work,I would get a prep talk which talks about goals of your shift and amount of money we should be making. Mostly my task would be on cash, cashing out people placing orders for customers online. Greeting customers when they come into the store. Management is super friendly and open minded. I have learned many things from how to open a box of shipment to how to order something for a customer, call customers when there order has arrived in store.

People were nice. Retail sales. Show up work your shift and leave. Good employee discounts on clothes, boots. Folding clothes was not fun. Managers teach well.

I worked in the largest location so management had a hard time noticing when work was actually being done and usually noticed the small moments that work was not being done. Overall a pretty good experience but large amount of employees took away from employee connection. Nicest co-workers you'll ever meet however.

I loved this job. This was my very first job I had, and really appreciate what it has taught me. The staff were so helpful and friendly, it was more like a family. However , I was going through personal family issues and I had to leave .
