One and only job I have ever been fired from . Treated very unfairly by new management and district manager. The only good thing about them is their discount on clothing , considering they make you wear up to date clothing (most of my pay cheque went there). I don’t talk Ill of any other place I’ve worked as I would never want to burn bridges , but this place was horrible.

Horrible company to work for..Very tight knit group and no respect for employees. Expect to work alone and have to do a lot or you get in trouble or fired over the littlest mistake

This is one of the worst jobs I have had. It was incredibly surprising to hear from employees at other locations that they enjoyed it. The Courtenay location seems to be an outlier in that way. When I first started the current manager was stealing hours from employees and was only fired after far too many complaints were filed to HR. The new manager was the best I've had but the management of the company in general seemed very poor. The communication was lacking greatly. A typical day would be clocking in, helping customers, starting fitting rooms for them, taking out any new stock that had arrived, performing returns, tidying the store, and clocking out. The workplace culture while I was there was pretty toxic. Within the Courtenay store there were several employees that would complain about anyone, and everyone. Nobody would take fault for their actions and would push each other down whenever possible. Problems are often left for someone else to finally deal with them. Hardest part of the job is dealing with rude and angry customers, and trying to communicate with higher-ups. Overall, the day-to-day activities of helping customers and doing stock, etc. were fine. The management, toxic culture, and lack of care for your health and safety were the main reasons this job was incredibly stressful and unenjoyable. I would not recommend working at the Courtenay location unless several employee changes have been made.

Pros -Good staff training -Paid on time -Employee discounts Cons -Management -Scheduling - Did not provide resources to problems I had good experiences with the company, and made long lasting friendships. It was difficult moving up in the company due to management training.

I enjoyed mentoring, but the pressure to meet sales quotas took away from the experience. When you did make sales quotas, there was little recognition from the dsm, and continually made the culture less friendly.

The worst place to consider a career. No room to move up, no guidance most of the time no management. Do no recognize hard work or long term employment. The worst 5 years of my working life.

Working in the store was always fun and we had a great team from sales associates to our store manager. The biggest issue was higher management, who had unrealistic sales and dress code expectations. If we were projected to have high sales and did not meet them, the store team was blamed for it which was frustrating when traffic was down. To make up for the low sales, they really push for you to be in customers' faces and "sell sell sell!" to the point where it is uncomfortable and customers are visibly unhappy. They also require you to purchase and wear clothes from every single collection which adds up, especially if you do not get many hours as it is (they will cut your hours if sales are down that month). If you are part of the management team, you are guaranteed hours. If you are a sales associate, you could be working as little as 4 hours/week. I loved working because I was guaranteed hours every week, my boss did not actually make us buy clothes from every collection, and my coworkers were great. It really depends on the store!

Managers always coming and going , upper management isn’t any better. Do t care about you or give you any support . Burn you out until you quit . It’s retail so the hours suck . Too high of expectations for the wage they actually pay you which isn’t that great either .

Reitmans is a hard company to work for. They expect a lot of out of their employees but aren't willing to help in any way. Aren't willing to promote people and wont give any feed back about why or how to improve.

I overall enjoyed my team with Reitmans, working with customers and adorning the latest fashions to come in. The salary and management however was less than desirable which is what prompted my exit.

Good place for a student to work part time. Working full time with any title above sales associate, your job is never safe. They move employees around from store to store, and if you do not wish to switch locations (maybe its too far from home) then you will never be offered another promotion through the company. Often when employees leave, they do not rush to fill the position and others are expected to do the extra work with out any extra compensation. This goes on for extended periods of time and wears out the staff mentally and physically. Unfortunately, they have a program that sets unrealistic sales goals (ei: Goal of $5000 for the day and you might only have 25 customers that day) and if you fail to reach the sales goal, you are reprimanded and in ongoing cases, let go. Their benefits are decent, however it can take a very long time to get them.

Not very friendly, staff and management are clique and most of your pay will go towards new product, not necessarily because you like the clothes or want the pieces but because it's mandated to own outfits from every season.

This place really takes a toll on you! If you are fashion associate - they will make you work way harder than you are actually getting paid. And sometime the management just doesn't work as had as the part=timers.

Typical day at work would be to make sure the store is clean and in proper order and organized. Making sure that employees are in their correct positions and all customers are being greeted and served.

The most enjoyable part is being able to connect with customers on a more genuine level. When you put aside the repetitive promoting, and take a moment to learn about your customer, you'll find it to be a very rewarding experience. The clientele at Reitmans can sometimes be tricky, so its important to listen and feel out the kind of customer you have. The atmosphere is always upbeat and everyones very friendly!

opened store, counted cash, got things ready for the day, served customers through out the day, cleaned up what need to be done for the day, you all ways learn some thing new. management was usually on top of things for the most of it.it seem to be a friendly place all around,most of the time, For me the hardest part was remodelling the store all the time, but it was also a lot of fun. reducing prices was a task to but kept us busy.i like working there in general, lots of fun days lots of good people to meet every day.
