I love the company that I am currently employed with. Sadly, there have been some in store changes that were out of my control and have created an uncomfortable working situation.
long hours, inexperienced management
I loved my store I followed the standards set out, made goals, did all the merchandising, and was in change a employees. What I learned that I complained and nothing was done, the manager had less hour on the floor but did all her work at home so all part-time and full-time didn't make there goals. As DSM she should have been told to go off floor or do merchandising. Hardest part was losing all our employees, they became stressed. The job was fun and as I said I loved it. I enjoyed working with the costumer, they always came back.
Increasing store from D to B when they thought they'd close

a typical day at work for me as an assistant manager would involve coming in to the store and counting the cash for the registers in the morning. then after making sure the store looked neat from the night before ...put back any left over try on clothes that were left on the rack and mop the floors . i learned a whole lot of responsibility from this position that i held since i was the only person in management handling the store for a couple of months. my co workers were great associates who would always work hard to sell the merchandise. the hardest part of this job was that i had all the pressure for the store on my shoulders. the most enjoyable part of this job was that i got up every morning to dress to impress and i could make my own schedule.
half off on all the merchandise in store
I have worked for the company off and on for a few years, since coming back I have noticed huge changes that are affecting how the customer service is delivered. No task hours causing all tasking and customer service needing to be done with few hours makes it hard to give the customer the proper experience while shopping.
few hours, small staff
I was the Assistant Manager; I assisted in the day to day operations of the store. I was responsible for opening and closing and helped to manage a small staff. I merchandised and assisted customer as well as dealt with customer issues. I did deposits and ordered supplies.
Loved working here. Typical day was creative and business oriented. Worked great as a team and kept a great balance of fun and professionalism. Decent benefits, pay was okay and discounts were a great bonus!
Positive all around
Weekends were sometimes not fairly scheduled
I started at Reitmans as a part time employee while finishing school. I hadn't thought about the retail industry as a place to make a career. Over the years I learned many valuable skills for customer service, financials, loss prevention, health and safety guidelines, and management. My co-workers ranged greatly in age, and backgrounds, making the work environment out to be fun. My manager was very professional, involved, and taught me a great deal, that would later further me in my career. The hardest part of the job for me is probably passing duties onto others. I'm very hands on when working and sometimes I might try and take too much on myself (which is very easy since there is always tons to do!) The best parts of my job would be the people I get to meet and help on a daily basis and...there's always tons to do! Definitely not a job for anyone who gets "bored" easily.
Assisting manager with daily operations of running a retail store. Very long hours.
Selling clothes to those who came in to the location, meeting goals set out, coaching staff how to achieve goals, and recruiting new staff. The long hours standing on a concert floor were hard on the legs but having the coworkers I had made up for the sore legs.
