The best part of the job is the culture. You really do feel like part of a family. The worst part is that it feels like there's a lack of cohesion and structure when implementing changes.

when I started 3 years ago I loved it. but in my time I have seen enough. unless you kiss a** you cant move up or else they have it out for you. management is getting very bad, making you do the work of 3 people for barley above min wedge and if you cant complete the task you get disapplied, the management treats you like a little kid who doesn't know anything and it is very favouritism based

Management at that store in no way resembled what the corporate office promoted as their vision. The so called Team Leader (TL), was a person of very little prior work experience, who subsequently held that against any others who sought advancement whether or not they had days, months, or years of retail experience. The TL was obviously unable to critically think issues through (as to how to resolve questions, issues, etc.), but was full of 'sayings' which resolved nothing, nor provided room or freedom to work out situations to the benefit of the store, the team members, and ultimately the customers. The TL was very proficient in being critical of others though when dealing with them. The TL was in the habit of gas-lighting team members, by passing and holding onto a judgment (and it only took one), followed by constantly assessing, defining, and holding the associate in contempt no matter the issue. The TL's inability to resolve conflict issues, beginning with the TL's own issues, translated into a very demoralizing atmosphere. It was very disheartening to experience personally and watch other associates lose heart due to the immature manner in which associates were treated. Associates who had been at that store for many years often described the descent of managerial incompetency as being increasingly difficult to encourage them to remain employed there.
The TL promoted an associate to an TLT (team leader in training) who, as an associate disregarded company/store protocols which made it difficult for all other associates to maintain and attain to those very protocols. An

Co-workers are amazing everyone is very nice and willing to help. There are times when it could get a bit stressful and busy. It's not always crazy though there are breaks in between.

The job environment is casually relaxed.
You are busy from the time you start until the time you finish and sometimes after your shift ends.

Very friendly people.

Knowledgeable in the area that they work in.

You get no training, beyond 10 different people telling you what not to do and how your doing another persons method wrong. Zero positive reinforcement or value in people. Managers are untrained and insecure resulting in a passive aggressive ,weird culture of gossip, drama and intimidation. Long hours with erratic scheduling. Must bang on the door to be let inside in the morning in the cold and dark unless you have a personal cell phone, and if someone actually picks up. Dangerous. Return Policy depends on which manager or employee is working resulting in confusion, anger and yelling by customers or managers yelling at customers. It is like a time warp here. If you like old fashion management, hierarchy and servitude. This is your best bet.

Company used to care about its employees but making management look good is the “new goal”. Pettiness to enforce rules. Never treated like adults once the new production mgr came on board. More like slaves to the machine. Good will and good humour not appreciated. Hard work was never appreciated only to work harder to make up for the slackers. Too much political correctness so that the slackers never got write ups.

Great place to work. Many great team members. Customers are extremely needy. Benefits are more than other places. More communication between all TMs would help.

I had a wonderful time. Some of their Team didn’t know how lucky they are to be working for a company that family focused. A lot of information shared by management with everyone. I hope to join them again when done school.

If you work here you will be treated like a piece of meat. Pay is pretty good because the benefits are very low.
Manager is the worst guy ive ever worked for. I quit after 1 yr

Sounds like a lot of bitter ex employees have left comments. I loved working there and there are several people that have worked there for years and years. Management cares about everyone and is always recognizing good work.

it was a wonderful job. the people i got to work with were amazing and knew a lot about what they were doing. the hours were great while i was in school and they included everyone in the company events.

A typical work day will involve helping customers locate items and make purchasing decisions. When not with a customer you will often be stocking shelves and cleaning the store.

Started with great potential as a career for growth but has proven the complete opposite due to managers who hire based on personal likes rather then skills and acheivements.

I do not recommend for anyone looking for a career. Good for anyone just looking for a daily job.


They do offer a reasonable pay for a retail company including quarterly profit sharing.

During my many years with Princess I enjoyed working in a friendly, fun environment and flourished without worry of judgement. In the last 3-4 years a new wave of upper management was hired strictly based on skill set, with little to no consideration as to their morals/personality. Within a short period, I was met with management that either didn't know me or didn't care to know me. Many knew of the corporate values, but had little clue or interest as to how to apply them. I wish the company well, but it is very sad to know it's unique culture is slowing crumbling.

Princess auto teaches skills but management is poor quality. There is internal theft consistently and is a very unsettling racist place to work. The training is poor and the leaders don't care about on going issues. Least at one of the Winnipeg locations. The bosses never seem to stay at the work place which I now understand why. They care more about profits rather than team members. HR fails to update schedules that leads to written notices when it isn't your fault.

Working there is unfair. They let people steal money and get away with it yet someone who works hard and makes a mistake honestly is fired and told they are no longer wanted. They are so unfair to the hard working person. If you don't do your work and you can do alot there and nothing will happen to you.Note don;t be hardworking they won't recognize you. They will recognize your lack of work and give you praise for it. Be warned going in there. Watch your back closely. Was there for 4 years and have seen alot.

Princess Auto has a lot of great workers, but the management never recognizes this and never appreciates their hard work. Often they will have two or three people scheduled on a busy weekend while they sit and "hide" in the back office where they can do nothing. Furthermore, workers who were far superior in knowledge and experience were never given a break or pat on the back for their excellent work. Sadly, the management would usually gossip and badmouth about said workers which brought the morale down. In short.... Princess Auto had the potential to be so much more.
