Just wish the company did not decide to close its doors in Canada. Overall great work experience and flexibility in work shifts. Offered a great learning and friendly environment.
I enjoy working at Pier 1. It is different because the staff are very polite, fun to work with, helpful and positive. Pier 1 also has benefits and 25% off purchases for associates

Very terrible company to work for. The management is very indecisive and scheduling is the worst I have ever experienced in all my years in retail. They don't pay well and I can assure you, the hours are very terrible. The company doesn't seem to have a great future.
Head office does not provide enough hours for work to be done. Also, expectation that complete store transition will happen at least 4 times per year, and that employees will handle moving large, heavy furniture around, and place and retrieve chairs around perimeter of the store. The entire storeroom floor is made of concrete and hard tile, and is very difficult on legs and feet. Injuries happen easily, despite training guides that are provided.
Started working at Pier One as a part time job, when my kids were little. It was nice to be encouraged to give your availability and work when you can. The training is extensive, customer service oriented. Excellent training to take with you to any service position with the public. Co workers were awesome. Management also very good. Raises just kept slightly above the rising minimum wage, not great pay overall.
fun workplace with great people to work with. nights were slow but days were quick paced and mostly all customers were kind and fun to help. each customer also had a unique style which was fun to play around with.
Although it was a fun job at times, the manager just sat at her desk in the backroom office mostly eating and playing on her phone. Floor staff did all the work, but when district sale manager came in for a store visit, the manager took all the credit for our hard work to get the store in tip top shape. The assistant manager was awesome. She was nearing 70 at the time and did much of the the heavy lifting and most of the hard work that the manager was supposed to help with. Left because of the terribly lazy manager.
The people that I work with at Pier 1 are amazing. The management is seriously lacking in their perspective skill sets. Due to the length of tenure of the Store manager and Asst manager their is no real drive to grow new leaders for Pier 1. Their is a lot of favoritism and lack of accountability. They both are just "doing the job"
lacking personal growth
The managers and supervisors make great team leaders to encourage workers to help the customer feel comfortable for their shopping experiences and everyone helps one another if someone needs help for a task.
Perfect hours to balance work and school life
Working at Pier 1 was such a fun experience! Management was amazing, and always offered support when needed. The company itself its amazing, and they really do care about their employees. We would always get new t shirts for promotional events, gift cards for staff appreciation day, and on occasion were sent goodies for the entire team to enjoy. It made me feel appreciative of my role. Definitely a good part time job to make a little extra cash.
Supportive team/management, positive work environment, staff perks
retail, minimum wage
Can be a good place to work depending on your personality. However, the possibility of clashing personalities or stressed management is there. I would recommend as a second job or for someone looking to get out of the house a few days a week. I would not recommend this as a sole job if you are relying on it paying the bills as it may not help.
prepare the new product for the sales floor, maintain a storefront, assist customers with questions and recommendations. the work environment is relaxed unless sales targets are not reached sales bonuses are given to managers only
overworked, skimpy wages, old school business plan
