Assistant and store managers pick favourites. Our assistant manager (also the HR rep) repeatedly started drama between associates and gas lit us all the time. Insulted us about our appearances behind our backs and only gave attractive men the good/enough hours. Not to mentioned you’re expected to do 200000 things at once all day everyday for min wage. Don’t work here. It will exhaust you.

Make it a requirement that managers must attend manager skills classes /people skills classes yearly. Also DM’s should go through extensive training to ensure store managers are adhering their management training.

Know the competition, know the big brands in the building, have a take on why you would fit in the Pet space..

Management needs TRAINING. There are so many programs to train managers to be decent human beings at work that it boggles the mind why you do not try using some. Take your managers off site and train them in how to manage, motivate and run a team. You will save money because the staff turnover will drop. Rudeness, bullying, huffing at people, being generally twits is not a recommendation as a place of employment. Let me put it this way: I quit, I would not permit a child of mine to work there, I am no longer a customer there (unless I am really out of all alternatives), I do indeed recommend other companies strongly to friends and family. This is based solely on your HR culture. WHY is it necessary to drive people from your business by having a near toxic culture? Employees are Internal Customers. They are also customers and have friends and family too. Walk the walk; do not just Talk the Talk! You have a great concept and an awesome mission statement etc. Now, put this in place in the stores.

If you are not in with the assistant manager who makes the schedule, as part-time you will get 7-36 hours... if varies every single week. Don’t expect to ever be full time. Only the managers and some in the grooming salon are full time. Many of my co workers beg for more hours and are cross-trained in different departments and are then scheduled for over 45 hours with no overtime pay. Don’t expect a consistent schedule unless you are a manager or are best friends with the assistant manager.

Unless you are going for a Groomer positions, Trainer positions, or Warehouse positions (depends) you do not need certificate qualification to work at Petsmart! Most of the training is done on job!

Hahaha. ANYTHING is fine. Clean Sneakers backpack a clean t shirt and jeans will do. They aren’t looking for fancy. Piercings and tattoos and hair colouring are okay too
