The company is stuck in a mindset of ever more growth, pushing hard to reach goals with a program based around unsolicited calls to current and former guests to encourage them to come into the store for routine maintenance etc. Actually a violation of the privacy laws in some provinces. This happens just so the guest will enter the store, where they are then fair game to be tag teamed by subsequently higher levels of skilled selling employees, until they are sold something.
There is no work life balance, and the People first company that may have existed at one time is now a huge mash up of lions gunning for the alpha position under the Signet umbrella. The company spends money illogically, cutting corners in store, yet having management travel once a year to resort like destinations for "training" which could be accomplished with one on one visits from upper management, or over the phone. The conferences don't actually teach you any hard skills, but rather are a conference to shape your mind to prepare you for the next set of selling tactics they wish to roll out to the masses. This is very sad as the company boasts many employees who actually do truly care about the milestones their guests have in life, and they have put the years in to be there from birth to marriage, only to be forced to risk harming that very relationship with selling strategies like offering credit cards that they must do with each guest three times, or be fired for not using this "tool". A good company to work for. However the pay wasn't the greatest. Not many of the workers were punctual. Would end up having to open the store late. Very competitive environment.

People's Jewelers is an amazing place if you wish to go and work for some of the best jewelers in the city. It has a wide range of services and products and offers education in the jewellery industry. Goals are tough but there is often plenty of opportunity if you are willing to work for it.

The few downsides are that often wages don't feel entirely fair considering the vast amount of work that goes into your day to day and it can be overwhelming for new staff.

As much as I enjoy sales and meeting new people, I would not want to work at People's Jewellers again. The commission and pay are ridiculously low for how much responsibility you have to ensuring the security of store and customer products as well as the high sales expectations. I didn't hate everything about working there, I learned a lot, HIGHLY improved my communication skills and confidence, met some awesome coworkers and I am proud to say that I think I helped a lot of sweet couples find their ideal engagement rings/ gifts. However, for all of the times I was yelled at by ungrateful customers, managers who scapegoated me and the nightmares that came from repairs being lost, over priced or just not done properly I'd say that peoples jewelers employees deserve much better pay for what they do.

The store was closed I did Christmas hire loved the job the only thing I didn’t like was no commission paid to Christmas Hire would work for this company again

managers were very friendly as well as coworkers. friendly working environment. staff discounts. shift working hours not too flexible as schedule is different every week. overall it's good place to work

I have never worked in such a awful place where the boss , is the most controlling person I have ever met ! Don’t work there . The boss is impossible to work with . Doesn’t care about anyone .

Promise of big benefits with no follow through.
Under pay under value employees.

Very competitive.

Very hard to get raises or move up in the company

But at least u get a discount on jewelry

Great job and environment, especially if you love the work, be it sales or jewellery. Not much room to advance, alot of competition and the pay is very poor. Unable to be your primary source of income in this day and age.
Highly recommended if you're competitive and sales driven. Make sure you have a back up job though as hours are limited

It was a terrible place work !!! Company had to many tasks and no hours for operation . They spend more time talking about customer service then just helping customers .Part-time & Full-time staff got minimum wage ..

I would recommend working here. Nice learning and friendly environment. Management is really good. Of i get a permanent job here i would not leave this place.

Huge expectations and complex detail oriented tasks to complete for min wage job. Bonus structure based on monthly targets to achieve as a team were pennies of reward ... regularly changing their guidelines

It’s only a good place to work during the holidays. If you’re looking for a real part time job I’d suggest looking somewhere else as they give hours to full time staff first after holidays your hours are little to none.

Also the team isn’t really team oriented, I find everyone greedy at my location. Way to much politics at this location as well.

Promised full time position for months, store wasn't selling so my hours didnt increase, group commission, good staff, lots to learn, get to work with many different people coming in and out of the store.

They start you off basically minimum wage, the commission is very low and hard to get at this location because it’s so slow. I feel like this whole company needs a revamp on their management employee relationships. It’s very hard to get a raise working at this location because again it’s so slow. They put a lot of pressure on employees to sell which ended up causing people to argue with eachother and fighting over customers.... there is a lot of gossip and talking behind backs even in management. I left mainly because of the new management that came in and was clearly not professional at all and talking about employees behind their backs. The only thing I liked about it was working with the jewelry was amazing. If they worked out the kinks in management and came up with better ways for us to be able to get customers rather than cold calling people who never asked to me called them MAYBE I would have stayed longer but not even being heard out for a pay raise was really disappointing, especially when the wage is so extremely low.

Like many larger older retailers, this one too is dying a slow and painful death.....poor base wage + pennies in commission ( unless you're a life time employee who gets a higher rate of commission)

It is a good work place to start your sales career, help you to build confidence when interacting with customers and company helps you with teaching materials to develop your sale career. Company cares a lot about your development and excellent customer service. There is a lot of pressure to get sale target as all corporate are. I recommend
