I find working for the board was stable in job security and they are fair in how they pay everyone and even though the salary to upgrade is not the best they have great benefits and the off-seasons are very very hard and you feel handcuffed when your on government assistance that can not pay your bills and you can't have a vacation because of it.
I’ve been with the peel board for over 20 years. I would say 15 years too long. Ive always worked with students with special needs. Unless you have great admin and a great team (which is really hard to find) you are going to dislike the job. Even tough the kids are amazing, the team you work with is everything. If you work with a new teacher, forget about it. Only way to have a successful and happy environment is to work with professional and experienced staff. And of coarse to have administration who value teaching assistants. You also need to find a second job as the pay isn’t enough to be completely self sufficient. Especially as you don’t get paid for the breaks and summer. I honestly would not recommend this position. Many others friends I know who are teaching assistant feel the same way. Everyone should go to work and feel respected and valued. That is rarely the case as a teaching assistant. Continue your studies and find something better!
I Love working with Peel School Board, since I work with special needs kids. They r fun to work with, u get so emotionally attached with them that when they graduate and new kids come in ; u still miss the old one and always trying to understand new kids with ur previous experiences. Time goes very fast when u do learning and physical activities with our students.Amazing experience working with all ages and levels kids.

The Peel District School board is a wonderful place to work for. Great and supportive staff, interesting students, wonderful benefits Difficult to get a permanent job. Pay for a Teaching Assistant is horrible.
Pdsb is a good place to work. They are honest , team work is always on point and your concerns are heard. Professional development are highly favoured in the Board and based on your personality you can go far Within the school board.
The Peel District School Board is fast growing. It provides great flexibility with hours as you have vacation/breaks throughout the year. However as a Teaching Assistant you are not paid for these breaks like a teacher would be (summer,Christmas). We have to go on E.I which is difficult, because you don’t get nearly enough to support yourself, family and keep up with bills. The environment will depend on your school.can be very stressful
I loved working with the PDSB. Only reason I am leaving is because I am moving to London, Ontario. I worked as a Teaching Assistant. The only complaint I have is that we are extremely under paid.
All teachers have the best interest of the students in mind and work together in order to not only offer them excellent educational opportunities, but also a variety of extracurricular activities. They welcomed me and allowed me to learn and advance myself and career
I worked here for a side job for a couple of years as a on call teaching assitant. The pay is weak with no benefits despite your working all over peel driving to different schools. It's like every day is your first day since it's a different school different students and staff. I then applied for LTO wich is usually what you get put in before getting a full time placement. The interview was extremely intense considering the position was only for a month despite my qualifications and experience and decent interview answers they contacted my references and they gave me a great review then they decided not to fill the month position. Maybe to fill it with on calls to save money? Despite them constantly saying they need consistent approach for students they make small contracts extremely hard to obtain. You also have to watch your hours closely because if they don't get put on by the school secretary each day you won't be getting payed. I've had snow days canceled last minute and shifts canceled last minute that's results In no hours no pay. If your looking to pay your bills have a consistent secure work place this isn't for you
Great place to work if you like kids and like the stability of a 8-4 job. Summers and holidays are vacation period which is great if you get paid, if not learn how to live on E.I salary and never be able to leave the country during these times.
I really do enjoy working with children and by being an assistant really shows me how my passion for teaching is growing enormously each and every day. I feel like the kids I work with are just like my own children (even though I don't have children). I would surely love to teach/tutor online so that your future can be filled with intelligent children that can change the world.
Seeing the student happy every time they're learning
