ParaMed is going down hill!!! Why? Read
Registered Practical Nurse (Ancien employé) –  North Bay, ON4 octobre 2019
I have been working for Paramed for 7 years (as a RPN) and I only seen this company go down hill. I gave my resignation because;

ParaMed is a revolving door for Nurses, PSW, and Supervisors. Now they have to hire new grades (which they never did before) because they are getting desperate for nurses.
The company DOES NOT care about their employees!!
You are expected to work 40-50hr/2 weeks but must be available for 100hrs/2weeks and you don't get NO stand-by pay. Yup you are expected to keep your phone on you at all times.

The paper work is ridiculous, and Yup you don't get paid for it either.
NO more employee of the month!
NO more nurses-week appreciation dinner (any more)!
NO more support from your supervisor!
NO more consistency with Client care, decision are made based on how THEY can save money!!

So think twice before you apply with Paramed Home Health Care!!

Ever since it changed owners 3 years ago its been going down hill since. They fired 2 employees whom been with the company a long time (15-25yrs). Only bc they wanted to replace them with 3 employees which came to the same salary of the 2 employees.

Sad very Sad!!

This company should go on TV as the 'Worst Boss Ever"!!!!

Good luck
Registered Practical Nurse (Employé actuel) –  Belleville, ON8 août 2019
There is no job stability. Some nurses have worked for Paramed for 7+ years and have never received a wage increase. Starting rate is around 23 to 25$ an hour and only .38 per km. You make yourself available for a 8 hour day and you may only get 3 to 5 hours of work in a day. Lots of promised incentives and nothing is followed through. I've unfortunately put more into the job then anything I've ever recieved from them. I was promised full time and ive yet to have two consecutive weeks with full time hours. Way to many chiefs/middle people and not enough people who actually know what they are doing. So many sick people out there who need good nurses and stability and unfortunately Paramed is not a company that provides that for the client or the staff. Paramed is a business. Nurses and psw's are at the bottle of the pole with the company and its evident in how they treat and pay the staff.

Steer clear
Registered Practical Nurse (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON18 mars 2019
This place has no work-life balance whatsoever. I am often stuck doing a lot of work at home for which you do not get paid extra for by the way. Coordination always complains and is incompetent at times. Management is often clueless about things and they do not now how to be good managers. There is a lot of gossip in the office and beyond. They hire staff who are also clueless and don't know how to do anything and are rude when you call in. There is definitely a lot of nepotism and people who are clearly not the best for the job being favoured because they are liked by management. They give jobs to whoever they feel like, not necessarily the best person. There are no thank you's and no true appreciation for what you do. Hours are unpredictable and new clients are given out based on favouritism so some have a lot of hours and others - not so much. One week you can have 40 hrs and the next you have only 20. You keep getting calls on your days off - its like no one checks the schedule before calling you. It's like you are always working ParaMed and are always on-call. There is no separation from work and personal life that it can become so overbearing and stressful at times.
Points positifs
You make your own hours.
Points négatifs
No separation between work and personal life/no work-life balance.

Productive, educating, flexible time of work, place for ongoing improvement in gaining new professional skills and knowledge in nursing.
RN (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON19 janvier 2019
learned a lot during my employment with ParaMed Health Care agency. Gained the knowledge and skills during the everyday work. Every day at work is different can be more or less stressful. Learn to handle different situations with confidence and how to prioritize my duties. I learned many nursing skills required at work in home care environment and to perform the nursing treatments independently within the scope of nursing practice. I received a lot of support from the Agency management when I needed .Management provided employees with In services/ training to update and refresh nursing knowledge and skills i many important areas of nursing practice, like wound care, care for venous, arterial and diabetic ulcers and various wound care products and dressings types available to treat and promote healing of wounds. Learned application of VAC therapy to treat and heal wounds and preventive measures to prevent ulcer formations. Learned technique of application specialty compression bandages, like Coban Light, Coban 2 compression bandage systems or Velcro Bandages System applied to treat Lymphodema of legs.
Every year management organized Skills Fair where nursing skills were reviewed and refreshed. I worked in a multicultural environment where workers treat each other with respect and value other cultures values and support each other. Working with colleagues at work as a team and in case of emergency have a reliable one to cover the clients from your workload if you can not.
The hardest part of the job would be to get to the client's place in a harsh winter weather and to cope
plus... with the traffics. You have to give yourself a lots of time on the road to avoid frustration.
The most enjoyable part of the job and great satisfaction was to see the clients health problems improved or completely healed with nursing interventions. and to see smile on their faces and gratitude.

Work is good, management not much
Registered Nurse (Ancien employé) –  Kitchener, ON18 décembre 2018
Great work for all beginners. A good platform to learn different skills. Pay is not really good for the amount of work and hardships that nurses take. Management is a fake and will never appreciate the hardwork of nurses.

Terrible management, toxic and stressful working relationships
Registered Nurse (Employé actuel) –  Windsor, ON23 août 2018
Not much to say other than if you enjoy being treated as a number then ParMed is your kind of job. Managers are never available when you need them, no emergency supplies at the office, insanely low pay rates. It seems that at the end of the day what matters is money, not clients or staff. No pension, no over time, no indirect pay and the worst of all - many clients go without care every day. Extremely hard to take vacation as there is never anyone to cover.
Points positifs
Benefits
Points négatifs
Constant turn over of staff, starting wage is lower than other agencies, with no raise in sight. Also, No pension

Nice company and staff however they are strict about giving clients to the ones with the most seniority. You can go awhile before enough work to make it worth your while.

Not even worth a star and if you like speed nursing and don't care if your work is done well then that's for you & a high turn over of staff
RN (Ancien employé) –  West end28 juillet 2018
When on call then you still have to do your work day. Orientation- you have 10 visits +10 hrs with a 'co-worker' that doesn't get any bonus. Anywhere else you have minimal 40 hrs. Be prepared for just a ride along. Nothing is confidential due to files in' your vehicle' not sure the MOH checks our vehicles & whoever is allowed to drive your vehicle with client files in the vehicle. Nothing is doubled locked & they don't require a locked room with a desk with a lock or a criss-cross shredder. Standards are low. There is no flexibility of work hours.
Points négatifs
payroll errors and not paid your actual hours of work due to prep time unpaid- no time for yourself

Registered Practical Nurse (Employé actuel) –  Kitchener, ON5 avril 2018
No day is ever the same in community nursing. It keeps your physical assessment skills up to par and your critical thinking must be top notch. If you re looking for variety and flexibility in your schedule then community is the place to be.

Just awful!
REGISTERED NURSE (Ancien employé) –  Ottawa, ON17 janvier 2018
New management are a bunch of bullies. HR doesnt know much about benefits and employee rights. Office staff are under constant pressure to fill visits, regardless of the nurses workload. No support from Supervisors. I wonder if head office knows how poorly the staff are treated at this branch.

Patient care was great, leaving because of management
Enhanced Registered Practical Nurse (Employé actuel) –  Cambridge, ON15 décembre 2017
I love the patient care aspect.
Management was disorganized and didn't care about their employees.
There was no middle ground, you either had 5 patient visits, or you were told you had to see upwards of 10 or more.
When asking a supervisor for help, the usual answer was "you need to figure it out"
Upper management claimed to have no knowledge of the staffing shortage for over a year.
The employee turn over rate is really high
