the work itself is rewarding and you get to utilize all nursing skills learned through your time in school. The major down fall is the management and supervision is very poor and there is no support for staff.

They advertise as flexible but they are not. They also have black out periods for holidays. The policies and not friendly to staff, and are solely for helping management dominate employees!!

Paramed is a greedy,for profit company that doesn't care about their employees,All they care about is their bottom line.They will run you into the ground by cramming as many people into your schedule as they can get away with.Because people are quitting on a daily basis,the workers that are still there are basically treated like machines,seeing back to back clients with no breaks at all.Workers are never acknowledged or appreciated with raises.I have been there 10 years and only raise I got is being funded by the government,not Paramed.Gas prices keep climbing,yet Paramed hasn't given us one extra penny to compensate us.Benefits are a joke,they don't even cover eye glasses.Only good thing about this place is the lovely clients you meet..other than that,I would never recommend this greedy,terribly disorganized company.

Never work for this company it is very unorganized and managed poorly. Coordination are very in organized and they don’t answer phones or return emails. Managers have no clue how to use systems but yet answer the phones to tell u they can’t help you. They are rude to clients and don’t care if they are seen. I have never worked for a company so unorganized in my life . Benefits suck and u have to pay for them full time psw don’t have any paid vacation time and only can have three sick days a year which they never let u use. No pension to look forward to find a better company

Management very unapproachable, closed door policy. If you have a problem to get the job done or working need you better try figuring it out on your own because if you approach management, you will be the focus of harrassment instead of focus for support and learning.They work well off gossips, high level of bullying that is covered. Pay is always not accurate. Everything happens in the office is gossiped down to staff. So if you are a candidate of bullying or they are after you, just check with any staff, even the psws and you will know the plans of management, supervisors or coordinators for you. No confidentiality, no professionalism and extremely poor integrity. Low salary, on call salary violates minimum wage standard for the province, $2/hr to be on call is unacceptable and disturbing. Promise of full time or part time job with no hours guaranteed. This is not explained until after you are working. Very limited orientation, the in class is extremely overwhelming with a lot of paperwork that does not prepare you very well for the job. Practical orientation needs improvement. Overall the worst employment experience I have ever had. I would encourage anyone that mean themselves well to avoid this place. Looking forward to leave this place soon. The staff and management turnover rate is very high.

Schedule is inconsistent and unreliable. Salary on the low side.


Overall, it is very work/family life balanced and most staff is pleasant to deal with. Love my clients that I've had for years.

The coordinators in charge of shedueleing do not have a clue what they are doing. They do no provide any call aheads for the clients in regards to cancellations, time confirmations, or new psws. On multiple occasions some are rude to staff and even clients over the phone. They often blame psws and throw us under the bus when coordination are the ones in charge of time changes and scheduling. There is also no room for advancement. No yearly raises,no extra vacation. We have a new logging system that is atrocious. No one ever responds to emails and wait time for phone calls is absurd. A lot just come for the paycheque and don't even care about the clients

-the coordinators can be sneaky by adding clients to your schedule outside your region or availability.

Hard to write this

It's very tough to write this as it doesn't reflect on the whole staff, just certain members who lost their way when Paramed merged with another company a while back. I had to leave the company due to their ethics changing too much in a negative way for a health care company. I hope they've started treating their employees with a bit more respect, the clients were the ones suffering the most in the end. It makes me really sad to think about the care I will receive one day.

Constant changes, poor communication

I've worked for a few homecare companies, and they all seem to have the same issues. Coordination and lack of support to PSW's. Hours are easy to come by, but the consistency of primed regular clients is rarely steady. You will be pulled and never told why, proper training for clients is rarely done, and most care plans are either non existent or old and not updated. You go in to homes blind and client satisfaction is pretty low due to lack of communication from the office regarding scheduling. Breaks and proper travel time is an everyday battle.

Management is very unprofessional, rude, not easy to talk to when you have to email everything, sending psws to see new clients before the client has been accessed by OT. That is how is how injuries happen. p

Its a great place to work to meet some great clinets. But the staff at this place is the worst staff you ever have to deal with. They expect you to work 10 hour days and when asked can you work longer and you say no they take hissy fits and are very rude to you. Everything is done through email which they never respond to at all. This company could be great if they got rid off the office staff and hired some psw to run things. I would never reccomend anyone to work here unless you want constant stress from these people..

They make them their company sound above par compared to other home care companies; however, they fail to meet that. They add clients to your rooster with out asking, or giving notice. When you ask why, they tell you "oh we were stuck and didn't have anyone" regardless if you have other plans such as another job, family, or appointments. They have no issues making you work 7 days a week for more then a month straight with no compensation. Salary wise, they are the one of the few higher paying employers when it comes to home care, but they will not compensate for your extra time put in. You have to push to have access to the benefits you pay in to, or you won't be able to use them. There is no room for advancement and no raises are given. Management sucks. They tell you they support you while you are in the field; however, if you are put into an environment where your safety is compromised, they will tell you that you still have to go there for cont' visits because no one else will and they need them done or CCAC will cancel their contracts. Overall, its not worth the stress, although you meet some lovely clients.

I enjoy working at paramed, its a good place to work. Management is very cooperative and try they're best to accommodate to your schedule. I enjoy the clients as well.

clt"s are wonderful but the supervisor is an idiot. supervisor does not stick up for employees. only got 1.50 raise in six years there. the decreased the pay for km travelled. not a good employer at all.

Management is horrendous, no follow through, no help no replies to any questions or issues. Coordinators pick favourites and most field staff just doesn't seem to care. Worst environment I've ever seen. Would not recommend this to anyone even my worst enemy
