Management was not it

Avis en vedette

L'avis le plus utile, sélectionné par Indeed
The managers were not it and it was a lot of favouritism. Co-workers made it bare able. The job itself was okay, but when understaffed would neglect breaks and would send you home early and cut your shifts without sufficient notice.

Points positifs

Co-workers

Points négatifs

Managers, not enough hours, not paid enough

A good beginner job

Training was minimal. Fellow employees essentially taught every aspect of the job. Insanely inconsistent schedule. After working two 30 hour weeks I was randomly scheduled to have 3 straight weeks off. Great if your a student I guess but not for someone looking for actual work. Most days were spent folding clothes. Sometimes asked to be on cash, one time expected to show up and unload newest stock at 5 am. Seeming no real structure. Was sent home early multiple times because the store was slow and they wanted to save on salary.

I didn't like anything, nothing to learn, you are criticized at every moment.

There are five managers, who distribute the hours among themselves, leaving minimum hours for the employees. They criticize each other, from one employee to another, they use them to know how your colleagues behave. When I started working I asked myself, why did they change employees so much, why do they resign? Over time, I realized, they cut your hours until you work 5 hours a week, or one day every two weeks. You have no training, you learn as you make mistakes. And the toilet and the dining room are so dirty that you are afraid to eat in the dining room and even go to the toilet. I don't recommend it for anyone.

Points positifs

good coworkers (not managers)

Points négatifs

Not good training, Frustration in learning.

Good first job

I enjoyed my time working here. The managers were supportive and nice for the most part, and my coworkers were even better. I learned a lot about retail. Good first job.

Points positifs

Employee discount

Points négatifs

Scheduling conflicts

Horrible management and work experience.

They purposefully hire you as part time to avoid giving benefits and hours, cut shifts, everyone talks negatively about everyone, management is catty, judgemental, and downright rude - however that is due to unfair treatment of management from corporate personnel and the stress put on them, but that is no reason to take it out on employees - unrealistic expectations on timed completion of tasks and customer engagement. The coworkers can be nice and the employees agree (2/3) the job sucks but are all too afraid to say anything about it.

Points positifs

Paid meetings.

Points négatifs

Short shifts or extremely long shifts, no benefits, management is condescending and rude.

We are expected to do way too much for such little pay.

I only got minimum wage but was expected to be perfect at everything I do and get criticized for every small thing I do wrong. I learned that this company makes young, enthusiastic, oblivious workers overwork and stress themselves out. The most enjoyable part of my job was coming to see my other coworkers, that's it. I would have left the company sooner, but I required a year worth of experience for retail.

Points positifs

15 min breaks every 4 hours.

Points négatifs

Back to back shifts (closing and then opening the next day)

part time job

location was slow, and the lack of training. The management was nice enough, but would get mad even if there are zero customers and nothing to do. hardest part of the job is keeping yourself busy even if there are no sales

It was ok

It was okay, I learned that retail wasn’t for me. Good starting job for teenagers. They say they’re gonna train you on certain things, and then never get around to it

Points positifs

Free snacks, nice co workers

Points négatifs

Store is ginormous and never ending cycle of cleaning and organizing, management, hours, pay

productive and Friendly environment

Working at old navy can get fast paced but even during slow hours there is always something to do. You work as part of a team and it is a great environment.

Points positifs

Stress free job

Points négatifs

Hours not too flexible

"We are like a family"

Honeslty in the beginning it was fun and okay later on the managers changed and became really stuck up, they sceduale you whenever and god forbid you actually have an availability which doesnt allow you to work everyday theyll make you feel so bad and coerce you to make it more open so its more convenient for them. The team has been leaving like dropping flies they don't reward seniority nor hard work mainly those that are the "favorites" and oh dear are there ever some favorites. Dress code is okay though kind of odd that you cant wear leggings, for a store that's like 40 percent lounge and activewear it's not really open to wearing those products expect on the set theme days. Pros would be the three store discount at ON, Gap, and BR, however at old navy now most things are overpriced or everyday magic to which you employee discount wont apply. Cons they dont realize it's a retail job and they expect everyone to have put it above and beyond your own needs while still paying less than ever, you can rarely call in again my managers made me feel worse about being sick when I did have to call in (I've been at this job for almost 4 years first two years I rarely called off and would come in when called even if it were last minute) they often make last minute changes to the schedule and add or cut a shift nearly sometimes the day of, though you cant give your shifts away even if you have gotten them covered by someone else without being interrogated. For the managers that have made this their career dont realize that people are not like them and do have other priorities, the days -

Points positifs

Short shifts for those that prefer it, employee discount, pet sweaters and shirts

Points négatifs

Short shifts, bad management, random consistent sceduals, rarely any vacation hours, minimal raises not even a dollar after 3 years, favoritism

not worth it

The GM does not care about anyone but themselves. Most of the other managers were decent but they definitely have favorites. The GM has swore at me and made other employees cry. The GM does not care about the employees at all, even if you work there for a long time they will toss you to the side like you're nothing. Do not bust your butt for these people they only care about their own salary and their own paid time off. If you want to make a decent cheque you will have to work 25/30 days a month and working 10-12 days in a row because they will only schedule you for 4 hour shifts. If you become a lead you will do more and more work and manual labour and be micro managed and still paid minimum wage and no benefits. The only way to survive is to become a favorite.

Lots of favouritism from managers

I would dread going to each and every shift because of new management. They have their favourite employees and it is very evident if you are not one of them. However, if you are one of them you will get more opportunities given to you regardless of how long you've worked there. Anyone that is not the favourite will get stuck with the job that no one wants to do. Also if you need to book time off your request will most likely be declined no matter how far in advance you booked it off unless you are a favourite. A couple of the managers are very rude and make sure to show you that they are superior to you and it makes you upset. There is no opportunity to grow with the company so I would suggest finding a different part time job that doesn't make you feel under appreciated for all that you do for them. They also expect you to be available for 28 hours a week but will cut your shifts a couple hours before you start so there's no guaranteed hours which is kind of a pain.Overall, management does not care about their employees, they only care about the company so you will likely get thrown on the back burner for most of your shifts until they need you. The only thing that kept me around for so long were my coworkers and the discount but other than it was not a fun place to be and leaving was one of the best decisions I've made.

Points positifs

Discount, Coworkers

Points négatifs

Management, new policy, and Management

Productive, fun environment, ability to advance

I worked there for around 4 years (not consecutively) I really enjoyed working at old Navy, management was great, they were very accommodating, work environment was fun and you did get to advance depending on what you wanted ( just let them know if you want to progress within the company) it's an a awesome first retail job and a good choice in general , I got to work in all sorts of areas and was able to help train new employees, so you'll never get bored of doing the same thing

Points positifs

Flexibility, pay, security

Points négatifs

Work hours can be short for new employees/sales trainees at the beginning

Not a place you would want to work at

Old navy does not give you enough shifts to support your lifestyle. The work environment doesn't have enough males working. Lots of females not enough males

Social hangouts outside of work

Teamwork was a huge part of working at ON. Love the staff and management takes your schedules and concerns in mind all the time. Clean work place and very peaceful environment. Loved working there

Many managers to deal with

Unfortunately, there's a manager for every floor plus some. Recently some have come and gone, hard to keep up. Customers treat employees unfairly as if they are in a luxury shop. Management is rarely organized.

Boring

Did not excite me. It was an experience that I believe everyone should go through to experience retail work. It provided me the experience required to better communicate with people.

This place is a disaster, I no longer shop her. Managers cannot get their act together. They are unprofessional, unorganized, and treat employees like a number.

Points positifs

Points négatifs

Just an awaful place to work in general

We're disappointed to hear your comments about management. We understand the vital role our leaders play in the experiences of our employees. We're working hard to make sure they're providing the best support to their teams.

It's retail

It's what you expect from a job like this, short shifts, the longer you work there somehow the less hours you get, management is pretty unhelpful, but usually coworkers are great,
