The Work itself is fun but the management makes it stressful

Typical day at Oldnavy is sizing, sorting and folding clothes. Providing customer service and enrolling customers for Gap loyalty program. Be a cashier whenever needed. Shipment starts at 5 am so you basically take the product out of the boxes and stock the product where it belongs. Also changing the layout of the stores and dressing the mannequins. Management makes things unnecessary complicated and micromanage a lot. you can't use the washroom without informing on Walkie. Every 30 minutes they ask everyone how many customers they enrolled and push you to enroll them when if customer doesn't want too. They expect you to work as fast as a robot. if you are fast but not fast enough you will still get coaching. The management makes you feel bad everyday in the name of "accountability". Overall the work was good but management made the environment toxic for your mental health.

Gossiping and awful management

Got scheduled at 7 AM and they called me to cut my hours just 30 minutes before. Happened twice to me and to other employees. Very pushing and unrealistic expectations. $.20 raise after 6 months working. They talked infront of you and act like they dont mean anything bad at all. People quits like flies.

Points positifs

Employee discount

Points négatifs

Awful management

Undervalued and Ignored

Worked at Old Navy for a bit over a year and a half. In the beginning it was nice, I was treated nicely and got lots of hours during the summer. However, during school was when I noticed a shift. The hours became so low, a 3-4 hour shift a MONTH. Then after a few months, I was given about 4-5 shifts in a week I could hardly get my schoolwork done with any free time. The worst part about the shifts, were that they were always 3-4 hours, and always in the middle of the day. Not in the morning, not at night. Always from about 11-4 pm or so, which left zero chance to make plans with people or to get class work done. But whatever, I put up with it. Then the second summer came around. No hours again. The same small shift once a month or so. I brought this up to them and there was nothing they could do about it apparently. But whatever, school was starting soon. It was going well, not too many hours but enough, about 1-2 shifts a week. Then January came around. No hours for the entire month. Finally in February they bombarded me with so many hours AGAIN that I could not keep up with. I talked to them about it, they told me that they "are enrolling a new work plan" and this would become the new normal.. I finally gave my notice and quit, however they seemed really hesitant on letting me go, asking me to keep thinking it over. I did not. I could not keep up with the inconsistent hours and them literally giving me 20 hours in a week, every week. I could not handle that with school. I tried so hard to do it, too.The turnaround was insanely high. I was honestly one of the only people -

Decent for students

It was a typical sales associate job. It's good for students that need flexible scheduling. It can get either boring or really hectic depending on the time.

Great Employees but an Awful Company

If you are on cash or just sales floor, then it is an enjoyable time. Not bad at all.Managers do have favourites and make it obvious.Short shifts (usually 4-6 hours)If you do shipment. then good luck, heres why:start your shift from 5:00 am or 6:00 am.It is an unrealistic expectation. They keep track of your time.got yelled at a lot for not being able to get 1,962 items unpacked and placed in the store in 3 hours.very understaffed Managers are not encouragingyou will be micromanaged every shiftyou will be followed around by managers

Points positifs

discount, nice co-workers.

Points négatifs

5:30 am shifts, Gossiping Managers, Rude Managers, Understaffed mornings

High volume store with opportunity for career advancement.

The interview was in a group setting and I experienced a medium - high turnover of sales associates, however the managers were professional and kept everyone organized. As a sales associate we were required to run the fitting room, process returns, fols a lot of clothing, and manage the till, which involves occasionally having to deal with angry customers. There are a lot of changing sales to keep up with that can become confusing for associates and customers, but our team handled thongs very smoothly and I enjoyed the relaxed dress code.

Not a good place to work at

When i worked here I enjoyed it at first cause managers put up a front and acted all nice and cared but later after working for some time they stopped giving that front and revealed their true colours and stopped caring about you. They always want to schedule you as if you don’t have a life outside of work. They only give you 3 hour shifts as well, even if you ask for more hours they won’t give it. You will never feel comfortable telling managers anything like struggling with mental health cause they won’t care.

Points positifs

other brand associates are nice

Points négatifs

short hours, no management support

Great people, bad work culture

I worked as a shipment lead for about a year until the job literally made me sick. First of all, I was never allowed to actually lead the line and was left out of important conversations with management. The expectations that were set were literally impossible and demoralizing. Being told we had 15mins to process 60+ boxes, run them, and back stock killed everyone's motivation. People were set up to fail and weren't given the proper equipment despite it being available. Near the end, it got to the point where we weren't allowed to talk to each other and they threatened to take away our music. Basically, they went against everything the training video showed. I will that when I say "they" I'm referring to certain upper managers. We had two who were amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we felt valued and capable of growth. It wasn't all bad but there were some very deep issues.

Points positifs

Amazing Co-workers, great 4 hr workout, done by 10am, decent pay.

Points négatifs

Impossible standards, threats used as motivation, no faith in employee skills.

"We are like a family"

Honeslty in the beginning it was fun and okay later on the managers changed and became really stuck up, they sceduale you whenever and god forbid you actually have an availability which doesnt allow you to work everyday theyll make you feel so bad and coerce you to make it more open so its more convenient for them. The team has been leaving like dropping flies they don't reward seniority nor hard work mainly those that are the "favorites" and oh dear are there ever some favorites. Dress code is okay though kind of odd that you cant wear leggings, for a store that's like 40 percent lounge and activewear it's not really open to wearing those products expect on the set theme days. Pros would be the three store discount at ON, Gap, and BR, however at old navy now most things are overpriced or everyday magic to which you employee discount wont apply. Cons they dont realize it's a retail job and they expect everyone to have put it above and beyond your own needs while still paying less than ever, you can rarely call in again my managers made me feel worse about being sick when I did have to call in (I've been at this job for almost 4 years first two years I rarely called off and would come in when called even if it were last minute) they often make last minute changes to the schedule and add or cut a shift nearly sometimes the day of, though you cant give your shifts away even if you have gotten them covered by someone else without being interrogated. For the managers that have made this their career dont realize that people are not like them and do have other priorities, the days -

Points positifs

Short shifts for those that prefer it, employee discount, pet sweaters and shirts

Points négatifs

Short shifts, bad management, random consistent sceduals, rarely any vacation hours, minimal raises not even a dollar after 3 years, favoritism

not worth it

The GM does not care about anyone but themselves. Most of the other managers were decent but they definitely have favorites. The GM has swore at me and made other employees cry. The GM does not care about the employees at all, even if you work there for a long time they will toss you to the side like you're nothing. Do not bust your butt for these people they only care about their own salary and their own paid time off. If you want to make a decent cheque you will have to work 25/30 days a month and working 10-12 days in a row because they will only schedule you for 4 hour shifts. If you become a lead you will do more and more work and manual labour and be micro managed and still paid minimum wage and no benefits. The only way to survive is to become a favorite.

Toxic Environment

No support from management and expectations are unrealistics. You are only good in the management book when you say yes all the time but when you say no they treat you like garbage.

Sales Associates

As a sales associates you can be a cashier, helping customers on the sales floor, sometimes wiping down fitting rooms (due to COVID), answering calls from customers about the product in-store. In terms of management, I was lucky enough to have a very nice team where my managers were very kind and understanding. The hardest part of the job is learning the tiny stuff like looking for items using the iPods or the tablets; as well as the unexpected inquiries from customers. A busy day can get stressful especially when there are 4-5 customers asking you for sizes or inquiring about different things. Another thing is depending on how clean/messy the store location is, on busy days it can be a hassle to fold clothes down and pick up things off of the floor (so don't work here if you don't like bending down all the time). This job is not recommenced for people who easily get tired because as a sales associates you're always on your feet. This job is great teens and/or those trying to get their feet wet into the workplace and gain some experience.

Points positifs

On special occasions like Christmas or Black Friday, you get donuts

Points négatifs

Long hours, high expectations from managers.

Bad hours and work environment.

Most of the job is incredibly easy. Fine experience for first-time retail workers. They take advantage of young people without work experience and constantly cut shifts short as well as give infrequent hours. I once had a single 3 hour shift on my 2 week pay cheque. Work environment is very awkward, nobody ever talked and I was never even acknowledged by management after I put in my 2 weeks. They over-hire to ensure you are replaceable.

Points positifs

Easy, Slow-Paced, Good Experience

Points négatifs

Bad Hours, Bad Work Environment

Terrible and horrid place to work

Was referred to this job by an old acquaintance. Management is extremely racist and abusive towards certain staff members. Anything you mention to the general manager or other management is never kept confidential and guaranteed privacy breeches at work. Harassed daily at work and verbally abused by several managers and no matter how many times you complain, higher up management will never do a thing to rectify the situation. The coworkers are also not pleasant to work with as they like to chit chat amongst each other and lie to rattle your nerves for their own amusement.

Points positifs

Going home after dealing with this insufferable workplace

Points négatifs

Having to deal with this insufferable workplace.

Terrible Managers, disorganized mess of a place to work

Working here was the bane of my existence; the managers didn't care about my availability at all. I've cried in front of them before due to the stress.

Points positifs

Nice Cowerkers who also hate it here so we could vent to each other :)

Points négatifs

Didn't care about availability nor mental health of workers.

Found it challanging to keep up with the amount of product organizations with the amount of payroll given

Found it extremely challenging to keep up with the amount of work needing to be done on a daily basis just to keep up with the visual responsibilities of the store. Even at the fast pace that our team worked it was a never ending cycle of visual flips and not enough staff support to get it all done.

Productive and flexible with hours

Good job for those who are in school. Fast-paced and flexible hours. Co-workers and managers are nice. Everyone is understanding. Treated fairly and equally.

Very fun to work at

Great sense of community, everyone is very friendly. The managers are very encouraging and they understand that life gets in the way sometimes. Would recommend applying as a first job or part time.
