It takes a bit for other employees to relax around you when you first start, but after a few weeks and your in the routine, things get a little more relaxed. The hours are awsome. Should have more OT opertunities though. The pay could be better though it isnt horrible.

I seen 2 of the staff doing blow in the bathroom.
Place will take anyone.

You are doing a trade without getting paid or obtaining hours towards certification.

Had a mentally unstable worker throw wood blocks at other workers.

Pace yourself don’t burn. There are 10 others in line waiting to get your job. Get good fast and keep up the pace, hit the floor running. Good for a while not for a lifetime.

Breaks paid, 44 hours. Construction inside so no weather issues, RRSP and medical, Colleagues are great, Above average pay.
Points négatifs
No union. No locker rooms, no showers. Fast paced high volume huge workload.

Management thinks that it should run the way it did 30 years ago
An should still run the same way as it is today which is wrong safety is first and I don't think it is safe

This is a very discriminative place to work. Different strokes for different folks. The lazy socializers get away with doing exactly that and the hard workers get picked on religiously. Do yourself a favour and walk away before you even start working there. Most of you won’t take anyone’s word for the review so go ahead and find out for yourself! I give you a month at most and you will regret it. Pension sucks

The pay is better than minimum wage and the hours are good - Mon-Fri with weekends and holidays off. But the management is terrible and they don't listen to employees. Office staff gets treated better and paid higher but most of them can't even do their job and it causes problems for everyone down the line then the line workers get yelled at. The work itself is not too complicated if you already know what you are doing. There is no real training and no advancement opportunity or internal job postings. Wages should be higher for a factory of this size in the $25-30/hr range. There is a permenant hiring sign out front which tells you all you need to know about turnover. They don't hold your vacation pay, it goes on each paycheck like a seasonal employee. If you are just looking for a job for a few months or a year, this is ok but don't expect to retire from here or provide for your family. This company is extremely behind the times in company culture, products, policy. Needs HR staff/team to bring it into the 21st centurey and treat all employees equally.

They pay fairly if you are in the office. Guys on the line get the short end of the stick. The general consensus is that the company does as little as it possibly can for the employees.

They do what they can to make sure you don't get thru the first 3 months. If you do, you never make it to one year. It seems that is their mission. Cheaper than benefits.

I enjoyed my time at Northlander and was treated respectfully and always fully trained for every position I was given. The only problems I see at northlander is with respect to their promotions and the fact they are not done by tenure .

very hard place to work. doesnt matter how many hours you work you only get 2 15 minute breaks. sit on a pail cause no lunch room.when you get hired its the luck of the draw as to where you will be put.they are on the 10 hourr shift that goes from the first long wkend to the last. DUSTY also.you work 48 hrs a week with only 4 paid overtime

Expect to work long days with no lunch breaks and not have any job security. Most of the guys are great to work with but you can be fired for no reason at all.

A typical day of work would involve the manufacturing of park model and manufactured houses. These houses were built on a line which put a large emphasis on production. However, Northlander Industries prides itself on building the most quality product of its kind in all of North America. Management continually stressed the importance of quality control. Therefore, I learned how to produce a quality product in the most efficient manor. I worked exterior to interior learning a wide range of carpentry skills from framing, sheeting, and roofing, to cabinet installation and trimming. The hardest part of the job was learning how to time manage in a manor that would allow for high levels of production while maintaining strict quality control guidelines. The most rewarding part of the job was seeing my skills build to the point where I could produce quality products at an efficient level.
