Was once a great company and now under financial stress creating employment issues

Historically a great company to work for, but the last few years have seen major changes in their attempt to maintain losing profits. Lots of cuts everywhere, shifting company goals, most baby boom age workers have been let go, and increasing turnover. A company that now makes lots of promises, says all the right words, but fails to deliver what they say. Chaos and disappointment.
If you are young, confident, and have a pedigree education, this company wants you.

Sucks to be a seasonal

If you get hired here full time it's great just like most full time jobs. If you're a seasonal, be prepared to work anywhere from 0 shifts to very seldomly 5 shifts. You will even get a week where you'll work a midnight, an afternoon, and a day shift. Because Nestle really doesn't care about their employees. Majority of the people working here are at a point in their life where there's nothing else for them. The people who make the schedule have no clue what they're doing and they will hire more people just so they seasonals don't get 40 hours or overtime.

I worked for this company years ago as a millwright. There was a management change and our entire team including our great boss quit within months of this new manager hire.There has been a 100% turn over and recently they tried to unionize.That should tell you something. When I started it was great for 4 yrs until that new manager got hired. Very toxic work environment after that.

Not a good career choice

No job security whatsoever. They hire a bunch of people to fill a large work orders during the summer and then end up only hiring a few people. Everyone's fighting for a position it feels like you're in a constant battle to please management. The workload is very stressful for what you get paid nothing's guaranteed.

Job stability with great perks but lacking management

The people who work on the production floor are generally very kind and helpful, but management has gone downhill since I started a few years ago. Scheduling is always a hassle to deal with, making it virtually impossible to guarantee full time hours or to be able to work a second job.

Create company to work for but only contracts

Production Worker (Ancien employé) –  London, ON12 mai 2019
Nestle while a great ethical corporation, has issues in the London location. While I was working as a production worker (packing), the job started out smoothly for the first 4 months. Pay was competitive, work was easy, environment was clean and safe. However, I was soon saw the dark side of the work culture as the production season was slowing down. During March, almost the majority of non- hired on/ non full time workers, were put on the night shift permanently. This was due to very few to no full workers wanting to work the night shift. While this is normal for any kind of factory work, this continued for 2 months and there were was no other shift rotation for the seasonal workers ( continental shift ect). The night shifts featured disrespectful management, full time workers often berated and used profanity for little to no reason as there was a toxic culture against seasonals. Full timers openly disrespected new-comers for no reason, any mistake on machinery by operators was always attributed to seasonals and blame was always shifted to seasonals. During this time management would call in a full working crew during the night shift for all lines, despite many of the lines only running for 30 minutes to an hour during the night. When production was finished the night shift managers would use take seasonal workers "out of rotation", taking them off the lines and asking them to stand around, as they were not permitted to go home without pay or even clean or touch machinery. All this while fulltimers worked and had free reign on what they could do during down time (mostly sitting  plus... around talking after production). Also, during the night shift you never knew how long you were going to stay, as being "out of rotation" could entail a manager deciding that they want to send seasonals home right when you walked in the door. In short, night shifts were mismanaged and had an extremely toxic environment. Seasonals walked around on egg shells, not knowing if we were going to get any hours this shift. Additionally seasonals had no upward mobility, as a mass hiring for full timers in February filled the unions quota of 150 full time jobs. Seasonals are just place holders at Nestle, they will call you in for 30 minutes of work and then make stand for hours, while they decide on a whim if they are sending you home or not. Another final note, there is no notice of fees on the physical paper contract you sign, but the start of the first shift, managers make you sign union membership with dues. Paying dues without being guaranteed hours is silly are plain theft. Also 3 months into work, management decided that seasonals had to pay a 30 dollar " PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT DEPOSIT". Once again no notice of this was given on the contract.  moins

I can't count how many times (while on shift) I said that I was having too much fun! Nestle~ a GREAT place! Simply put!

The job description makes it sound perfect. However you work late nights , on the weekend and get paid for 37.5 hours. They make you work 3 teams worth of work and blame you for everything that goes wrong. Very toxic environment, and don't expect to get promoted as they will hold you back no matter what.

I've been working there for some years now. started off fine then when profit margins started to decrease because of the price raise on the products they decided to lay off the older staffing and some new staffing who was considered problematic. then started to drop extra tasks on the workers who survived the layoff increasing the stress of the workers and team leads. on top of that increasing the speed of production making almost impossible to stay safe in the environment (which is key focus for Nestle), forcing drivers to keep drive faster than they can.

after that management were put on strain from the higher ups to watch for any and everything not much praise given when the "grunts" discover problems and either fixes it or try to get it fixed by someone else.

warehouse management is no better. there is a new manager there who does not support the material handlers at all. barely see this person out on the floor checking on their underlings. and will only talk to you if you do anything wrong being severe or petty and make you beg to keep your job before letting you go back to it.

there is one or two "good" managers there but the rest just push and push for A.I. the ones that push dont care to help 95% of the time, if your palletizer is down because of bad products coming to it causing crashes.

you constantly have to be watching your shoulder because even some of the "grunts" will tell the manager on you if you were found doing something that seems to be unsafe to them, or if you idle too long.

yes the pay is good, the overtime is not forced, benefits follow
  plus... after being hired full time (at the rate this place is going persons who are new are contract hires and they may not get the full time unless someone who is full time leaves).

on shift and off shift are fair. 4 days on 4 days off rotational days and nights 5:50 to 6:05 be prepared to give up a few weekends each month.

after all these words i didnt emphasize on safety....they are supremely "up the back end" on safety...it is a good thing but they will pick on the small stuff that will seem not to harm you.

gossip is strong there be careful who you talk to. also material handlers (forklift drivers) are always at fault even though it wasnt.

They are outsourcing all the departments to third party stakeholders, as they cannot keep up with the rising costs of products. And they are laying off alot of people so STAY AWAY FROM THIS DIVISION OF NESTLE CANADA.
