Benefits are good, met good people but im semi-disabled at 20

I joined at 17, i had no idea what i wanted in life and thought it’d be a good idea to serve my country. I met tons of amazing people and made some good friends and learnt a lot about myself. I’ve now released after 2 years(a short time i know) as i can no longer do much without pain, i felt most supported during my release which was helpful however the CAF has a ways to go with being accommodating for neurodivergence

Points positifs

Full benefits

Points négatifs

I am now disabled physically and mentally

It’s the Army

You get out of it what you put in. If you’ve worked anywhere else for longer than a year, the politics that people complain about in the army pales in comparison. This place is literally set up for you to succeed. Keep your cool, fight as hard as you can, do your best, be as prepared as you can be. But also have fun, and remember you can be anywhere else, but you chose to be here. Sometimes it sucks, but you’ll miss being up at 4 in the morning sitting in a trench you dug yourself, when your dragging your heels into a normal 9-5.

Points positifs

Tons of stupid little entitlements you would never get anywhere else (meals, distance, etc)

Points négatifs

Hours can be crazy but your experience may vary depending on your job

A way of life.

What is the best part of working at the company?Service to your country is always a noble thing. It isn't for everyone but I spent 41 years in the CAF without regret. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Firstly all CAF members are subject to unlimited liability which means you may be called upon to put your life and limb at risk to accomplish your mission. Later as you move higher in rank comes the burden of command where the lives and welfare of your subordinates becomes your responsibility in leading them toward success in accomplishing the mission. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Initially the training seams harsh as you are subject to hardships in order to instill fitness and learn to follow directions under stress, when it is done you realize you're part of something bigger than yourself. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Physical training in the morning and then routine training or maintenance throughout the day.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?Regularly dealing with support issues that affect domestic and international operations as well as the Canadian government political sphere.

The military is the worst

The military treats people unfairly. You can be given the worst trade if they don't like you as a person. They can work you overnights and weekends. No work life balance. Not worth the pay

Points positifs

None

Points négatifs

Worst Career Ever
Avez-vous trouvé cet avis utile?

Professional and fast paced, difficult to connect with colleagues.

What is the best part of working at the company? The opportunity to work with military people, the support for training in your area of expertise. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The lack of programs and groups available to members on site as a result of the pandemic. The lack of one on one support to onboard and orientate to the organization during the pandemic. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Different to comment since I was hired at the start of the pandemic.

Reliable good paying Job

I've Worked for the Regular Army for 6 years straight out of high school, The time flew by pretty fast! Most days are pretty long mostly consist of sitting around and working out a ton. Field time is pretty easy just got to adapt to the scenarios thrown at you.

Points positifs

Good benefits. Good Pay. Sense of Purpose. Good opportunity for growth.

Points négatifs

Lack of Funds, Lack of resources from the government

Its not a job, its an adventure

Great job from young men who love team sports and are in good health and physical shape and come from small-town men or rural communities. Previous experience with cadets, boy-schools or just being outdoorsy helps a lot.

Decent work with room to improve

Generally, working in the CAF provides a decent salary with reasonable benefits (some exceeding what might be found in the private sector). Organization is working through cultural change and is still stumbling along the way but it is clear that a large chunk of newer personnel are working towards positive change. There is, of course, lex flexibility in the work/life balance largely just due to the type of work and there is always the possibility to be moved (posted) to less desirable locations that can be pretty remote. However, it largely is what you make of it - entering the organization with a poor attitude will make it feel worse but giving it a fair shot I'm sure many people will find fulfilment and purpose. As with any workplace, management (referred to as the Chain of Command) can be really good in some locations or really bad in others. It is a great organization to learn how to integrate with many different personalities and approaches but can be frustrating at the same time. A large benefit is being able to change jobs within the organization if you feel you might excel somewhere else and the pension is a great incentive.

Points positifs

Decent Salary, Pension, Opportunity for Advancement, Ability to Career Switch, Education Reimbursement, Variety of Experiences, Service to Country

Points négatifs

Can be demanding (physically and mentally), Institution inherently slow to change, Some individuals/management have a sour attitude, Work environment can vary depending on location, Less flexibility in work/life balance

environnement toxique

Tout le contraire de ce qu'on propose lors du recrutement, environnement toxique, attentes excessives, mauvaises gestion du personnel et des ressources, frais cachés ex rations et quartier.

Consistently Bad

Higher ups constantly try to ruin your career. The majority of it is simply avoiding conflict with the older generation who can’t do their job anymore.
