Small company with small vision

This company appears to be a great one as they are growing and are still family-owned. It's also nice that you can make extra money through a couple different types of bonuses. In addition, they have a cool program for recognizing co-workers and the person who is recognized gets points that can be used towards a variety of prizes. However, management is terrible. The store manager does not give proper feedback or tell anyone when they're doing anything wrong. He blames head office and the company for everything. He also cannot handle too many priorities at once and rarely has the schedule posted for more than a week ahead. It is constantly changing. He babbles on way too much, distracting both himself and everyone else. And the district manager is a very aggressive person. Your opinion does not matter in this company. They make it seem like it does but when you try and speak up, they dismiss your comments. The training is far too long and does not even include any common retail skills training such as merchandising and such. Way too much constant pressure and focus on sales metrics (literally the smallest percentages are a huge deal) from the higher ups which causes them to lose focus on the bigger picture. Stay away from this company! They are a company that is far too immature and not ready to grow properly into an actual reputable one.

A great company with very approachable Senior Management and a down to earth owner

Amazing company, very good HR department, can approach management for support anytime and owner is so nice and care for the employees. I wanna stay in this company because of the culture.

Management is horrible and very unprofessional.

Too much content to learn in such a short period, especially in regards to implementing them with customers. Managers need to leave their personal life at home and not put their negative energy onto their workers 24/7.

Great team horrible management

The team I was working with at the Weston location was great, everyone was very helpful, however management made my experience a very difficult one to the point where I had to seek therapy due to mental stress I began to have. Hence why I had to leave such a toxic workplace environment at the time.

Overall this job requires a lot of personal time invested into learning about all the products which doesn't reflect on the paycheck.

Really slow-paced work environment also worst paying sales job and bonus. The training process was ridiculously long, it takes about 2 1/2 months. Requires you to learn extensive knowledge which can be troublesome with college students. Favoritism is a big aspect of the stores heads (manager etc.) My time their mostly consisted of writing and finishing modules rather than assisting customers.

Unreasonable and unacceptable workload on employees - avoid working here.

I worked as a warehouse DC administrator and you are overworked here. I can't speak for working in the store, because I've never worked there. However, in the warehouse, we are working non-stop, 24/7 and it is unreasonable and unacceptable. Not just my position, but the other warehouse workers as well. They were upset and frustrated with the unreasonable overload. Avoid working here. You will severely regret it if you choose to work here. Management was okay, nothing special. They consistently check on you, which is annoying.

Focused on customer service. Being a sales job they take the customer service very seriously. It’s a fun and friendly place to work. Constantly learning as you grow with the company.

Just a normal warehouse job

Working at Mister Safety Shoes was a positive experience overall. It was an entry-level position that I found to be manageable in terms of the workload.

Good work environment

Good place to work. Some days are long but there is a radio. In the summer it is slow but it does pickup in the fall. Management is friendly. Paid vacation time

Enjoy the clientele and environment.

Good company to work for. Extensive training and coaching so you are well educated on the products. Higher Management makes regular visits and interacts with its employees. My only issue was not hiring replacement staff an in-store management issue.

Vampire Company

Worked for this company for close to 10 months. Made a lot of sacrifices on the behest of the Operations Manager. Based on different aspects of the company as I've heard from various long term employees. At my location, we had ramped up sales and improved the reputation of the company. You would think an associate who's made the company over $120000 in 9 months would be a bit more appreciated. They'll take everything they need from you then throw you aside when they see fit.

Worse company ever

I have been hired a month ago. The manager who suppose to train me, trained me for a week then they bounce me to other store to be trained by the other manger. I spend one week in that store only to read the product knowledge from the computer. They bounce me from store to store and there is 5 managers to train me. Trust me these 5 managers does not know what I have been trained and what I need to know. Very incompetent managers in this company. Just be aware of their fake smile and fake promises. I would never trust this company again for anything ever. I left my other part time job for this full time job which I found later the incompetent managers know how to take vacations but does not know that they have a new trainee to be trained. Plus no support or guidance for new trainee and they are not professional. Watch out and beware from these snakes.

Good place, good people.

The majority of the staff are fun-loving hard workers. Management is very understanding with your schedule and will usually accomodate you within policy.

Very nice company to work for

A decent company to work for and is definitely one of he best retail stores to work. Sometimes days are long and you have to pay attention to detail but is for sure worth it.

Frustrating...

A regular day (which could be from 5-8 hrs depending on traffic) is pretty slow. You have a rotation for who gets to have the next customer, which works for the most part. The training and product knowledge is rigorous but once you get the hang of it and learn the products it’s smooth sailing! It’s spoke of as a team environment but your bonus depends on personal sales so it’s hard to be a “team” when you’re trying to help the store and yourself at the same time. If you aren’t a people-person or knowledgeable on how to close a sale you will struggle. They boast of minimum wage plus bonuses, but this location in particular has a hard time meeting goal, let alone getting a bonus! Benefits are decent, sick and vacation pay included as well as being pretty reasonable with time off. With that being said, there were many times where sick days and vacation days weren’t submitted in time by management and your pay check would take this hit. The company accidentally overpaid vacation days I hadn’t used and I was forced to pay them back. While I enjoyed my co-workers, there was definitely tension in the store constantly and clear dislike between some. Out of the six people I worked with, half have left in the last two months which is most likely due to poor management. Location is also an issue, not in the best part of town and it shows. Shoplifters, sketchy customers... even an instance in where the next-door unit’s glass door was shattered by a brick overnight. For all that was promised before-hand, I feel like the job left me feeling cheated in a way. I tried -

Overall satisfying experience

Nothing bad to say about my experience here. I enjoyed the work environment as well as connecting with the customers. I also loved the bonus structure.

Not what is promised

Promised to be treated like family. Promised that they work with their employees and will be coached about any issues and given time to fix anything that you could be doing wrong. Unfortunately none of it was true. Much like normal retail be ready to work all the time as staffing is an issue company wide. Management doesn't want to work and is unreachable outside 9am-5pm and will let you take the fall for them.

fun place to work- team work

Mister Safety Shoes is a great place to work. They give you lots of training. They work as a team to achieve goals and have fun doing it. They really care about their customers and train you to be able to help the customer find the right product. They have a great support system in place. Not just in the store but it extends to head office. The hardest part is working some late nights, but that is expected in retail. Management is flexible on scheduling and will accommodate needing time off. If you are needing to leave for a personal reason they just tell you that you can go. Management is there to support and help you reach your goals. The most enjoyable part is having happy customer.
