The atmosphere is a great place to be in and you all just become one big family. The job itself is very straightforward but it just takes some getting used to. If you are any sort of creative or you just love art I highly recommend working at michales
While working at Michael's I received positive support and a great sense of community. Everyone has their bad days but working there made them bearable, once you have that kind surrounding and regular customers that recognize you and tell others about you, it was hard to leave.

Sign in, restock shelves, cashier duties when cash area filled up. 15 minute snack break, 4 hour shift. Friendly workplace Hardest part of the job finding the correct location of all products I learned a lot about Michaels and how they want things run in all their stores Most enjoyable part of the job was customer service, assisting clients to find products that would suit their needs.
I worked here as a cashier /sales associate for 1 year and my experience was awesome . I learnt lots of things from sales to interacting with customers . It was very fun working there at Michaels . I had a very nice group of friends and the Managers were awesome ! This company is flexible for students .
Safe environment for women
Part time shift hours
Working at the Markham location is very hectic. Sometimes work is stressful and management expects things done very quickly. There are a lot of rules to follow and they trained me during my first shift. Closing shifts are always the worst, a lot of things to do in a short amount of time. Co-workers are nice and we all try to help one another out. Good employee discount.
I started working at Michael's when I was 16. It's a great job for crafty individuals - a great creative environment and awesome employee discount of 30% off regular and sale priced items. I started off as Seasonal PT Cashier and eventually worked my way up to PT Cashier. Following that, I was assigned to work the Kid's Crafts and Birthday parties - definitely the best part of the job if you're high-energy and like working with kids. The worst experience I've had here was simply some grumpy customers (old ladies take their yarn prices VERY seriously). This was never the fault of the store or management - moody customers are everywhere you go! I'm so glad Michael's was my first job. The staff and management are super friendly and make even the most stressful times (Christmas - peak season) tolerable. I owe it to Michael's for teaching me patience, communication skills and overall finding little ways to enjoy where you work. I worked there for almost 3 years - perks are available to long term employees, like staff discounts and pay incentives. Unfortunately, the part-time hours were no longer financially beneficial to me (a girl's gotta pay bills, y'know) and I had to move on. I would recommend Michael's to most creative, upbeat people.
Worst company to work for you dont get hours or benefits until your full time , I would never recommend anyone to work for Michael's. Store manager and customer experience manager Ft suck on the other hand assistant store manager was the only good one in the store and 2 part time customer experience manager was great as well ,Pay sucks the only positive is the coworkers at the store I worked at
Relaxed workplace with flexible schedule. Managers make workers do most of the work, email collection is the most important part of your job. They threaten to fire you if you don't get 55%. Besides that it's a decent place to work.
Excellent environment to work in and great co-workers. Hours are quite good especially around holidays and management have a great system and organization. Patient training provided, and 99 percent of the time great attitudes, one of the best retail places I've ever worked. Newmarket location is amazing. employee discounts are better than any other place and the place is clean, and everyone pulls together to make the day work efficiently. The hardest part is the obvious disgruntled customer. every area of retail has this but the staff handles this with grace and such perfection with making sure the customer is happy. Even when they are rude they manage to diffuse rather easily. The easiest part of the day would have to be being around the other staff. Awesome group. Awesome manager. Everyone works hard, especially management.
employee discount, hours, education assitance, mental health supports for employees
typical customer issues in retail
I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a seasonal cashier/ employer at Michaels Art's and Crafts. All staff members were always joyful and giving helpful advice when I had some questions. I learned different social skills that would be needed for future career opportunities.
Customers were really nice as well as coworkers. Overall a lovely work place and great experience. Management was great too and could resolve problems easily with customers.
Lovely Management, Great Coworkers
Not enough hours
My termination was based on how often I was late, though getting to the location I was at was very far away. However, I enjoyed working at Michael's, work is very straightforward and easy, the hours are flexible, and customers and employees alike were nice.
Good discounts if you're an art student, generally a friendly environment.
