Working for Mattamy is a great experience if you've never worked in construction before. I learned a lot on how homes are built and which contractors had to be hired. It's physically demanding at times and the winter days were cold. The salary is good, but I worked through another agency and earned minimum wage. We watched safety videos often and shared conversations with the working staff every morning and lunch times. I recommend this line of work for anyone interested in construction experience. You can work your way up in this company.
Worked 9.5hr days with little guidance from management. I would finished my list and after asking for more work management couldn’t give me any and the gave me a hard time when I sat in my truck waiting. After I quit they attempted to say I didn’t work for 3 days and I took a half day, this was completely false and continue to ignore my calls and text. The ministry of labour had to be brought in.
Organized when it came down to material needed to perform tasks needed but had too many calls durning the day and felt rushed most of the time. Needs more quality control for their trades, trades are not doing the job they were paid to do. Felt at easy at some locations and then felt like a outsider in others.
The job was a great experience. The skills that I was able to build on here will forever follow me through my working life. The people and the environment made going to work a delight.
Strong team culture with dedicated employees. Fast paced environment geared towards building quality homes. Overall good leadership with a clear direction for future growth.
I worked full time at Mattamy Homes and reported directly to the VP of Finance at the head corporate here in Ottawa. Very easy going, relaxed, competitive, nice people around.
I enjoyed meeting different trades. I gathered a lot of information on the building of a house. Management are bullies, and do not take responsibilities for any errors. You are yelled and screamed at, called names, your work gets sabotaged. Managers will do anything to keep their jobs.
I was immediately judged with respect to my age. This is a very young group of people that most would consider the "cool kids". People in this company act like they are better than everyone else. Strong sense of entitlement with all staff. Very competitive.
