I’ve worked at Mark’s for almost 4 years now. It has always been a great pace to be, all of my coworkers are friendly and it makes going to work enjoyable. When I was going to school they did their best to accommodate my schedule. When I was working another job on the side they were great with working with my other job’s schedule. When it was the only place I was working they gave me good hours. I always feel like Mark’s will be a place I will want to be. If I ever have to leave it will be a sad day, I love it here.
I loved working at marks, and the only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the unproffesionalism (if thats a word). Superiors liked to be your friends and make you feel guilty about taking time off. It breached the balance or personal and profesional. Overall it was a good work day and most employees loved their job. Great to get customer service exsperience and have a casual daytime job.
I really really loved working here at the location i was at. I found the work to be super exhilarating and definitely something i would love to get back into. I was super happy to go to work in the morning. the work was fun and there was nothing difficult about this job! would definitely recommend for anyone.

Working at Mark's was a delightful experience and great for those just getting work experience. I worked as a seasonal sales associate and learned a lot of new skills along with the other part-timers. We had an amazing management in our store and relatively fair hours. I would say the only downfall to this work experience overall was that I don't think there could be an opportunity to make any job advancements in this position.
Management, Work/Life Balance, Atmosphere
Low opportunity for job advancement
While I was working at Mark's, I always had enough shifts to support myself, and I learned plenty of useful skills along the way. The management was fantastic, and working with customers really helped me come a little more out of my shell.
good overall, but it is minimum wage so you can find better places to work. management seems to be kind of messed up with schedule management and this kind of stuff, and minimum wage does not make employees proud or motivated to work there.
Manager was awful and will guilt trip you into working more shifts. Will not do anything about issues brought up as well. Pay was awful and advancement and raises went hand in hand but you had to work there for a long time to even get a good raise.
Lots of hours, staff was great
Manager is terrible, overworked for little pay
The business its self has so much potential to be a positive place of work. But due to the poor management, lack of communication and the company's desire to save every little dime they can especially at their employees expense the overall experience of being an associate at Marks isn't one that should be coveted.
Lacks sense of direction
if you get a good manager, your days will be focused on pleasing your customer. while yes you have daily sales goals, you're not forced. its easy to advance when you get the flow of your work place enviroment, it becomes a second nature.
little hours in the summer
It's a good company to work for except the management is slightly flawed. Issues do not get dealt with which encourages people to quit often. There's also no incentives or commissions. They do offer benefits, but it's for full time employees only and if you start as a part time employee it is next to impossible to get any advancement into full time. You are pushed on a consistent basis to make credit card sales and only get $5 per sign up IF they use the card within 30 days of receiving it in the mail and a lot of customers have complained about not getting their cards until a month and a half later, probably because the company is trying to prevent the employees from getting anything from the sales. I know just over Christmas alone i personally signed up 10+ people and didn't receive even a dollar for any of those. Wouldn't necessarily recommend working for this company, just make sure you weigh out all your options before choosing the Canadian Tire Company.
acceptable hours (e.g. 6 hours/shift as opposed to 9 hours straight)
Marks was a very great work place, the people I worked with were very nice and always willing to help out. The scheduling worked very good with my life and especially when I was just ending school. A great job for sure
Hours and work environment
Never had a set plan, always unorganized
A typical day goes as follows: usually you have a few tasks to finish such as pulling out a new product, repricing items in sale or clearance season but you’ll have to learn to balance all your tasks as well as help customers periodically and clean up any messes you come by. The people you work with are usually pretty great, all ages from high school students to people who are about to leave the workforce, it’s a laid back environment with easy dress code. The customers are one of the best parts about the job, obviously you’ll get a difficult person to please every once in awhile but you’ll end up getting a lot of regulars who are just happy for a warm smile and a good deal. The hours are pretty good, although Christmas season can be very busy.
Awesome employee discount, sense of community with coworkers, regular customers
A lot of product training you might not have time to digest
Hours within the store is constantly changing(inconsistent). Being a key holder(supervisor/shift leader) isn't worth it -> no insentive (you make the same as everyone else but have a couple more hours) corperate doesn't care about the stores even though that's where the money is being made? No consistency when it comes to policies, they are there to make the customer happy even if it's roadside robbery.
The staff within the stores
Hours constantly reducing
This is a very happy job and I enjoy working with many young people. This job is a part time work and I can give the customers a lot of help. I do cashier, fold clothes, collect clothes or accessories in the store by internet order, hepl customer choosing the clothes.
5 hours a shift
