So much pressure on cashiers

The job started of great. Now it's like the entire stores capability of running is on my shoulders. It's constantly get MasterCard. Get donations. Get emails. Watch people to make sure they're not shoplifting, like. Stare at everyone's shoes when they walk in and leave. Mark down how many emails you get, how many opt in for marketing. If you don't do good at these tasks youre shamed as they put this info in a weekly communication. Pressure is put on you to get TMCs when keyholders and management are "too uncomfortable" to do it themselves. The only incentive is $20 if you manage to get them to sign up and use it withing 30 days but everyone who shops at marks has shopped there for years and already has it or doesn't want it. Management makes passive aggressive remarks and leaves passive aggressive notes about these goals and they will stand near the cash pretending to do something while eavesdropping. I was basically in charge of TMC without the title and raise (someone else was given that and I've never once saw them talk about the MasterCard) Not to mention each customer has to go through 5 min or rigorous questioning starting off normal with "did you find what you were looking for today" Then "reinforcing the sale" that item has *insert feature* so it's a great choice Would you like to help get kids into sport who can't afford it? Do you have a CT money card? If yes: are you enjoying the benefits? Such as *insert benefits* you could get *insert MasterCard* benefits if you upgrade to the TMCIf no: if you got the CT points card you could collect at *insert stores* I -

Awful

People are unsupportive, don’t want to see you do anything with you life, worked harder here than anywhere else with disgraceful pay. All employees talk bad about each other, and be little you behind your back. Beyond unprofessional, Not a good work environment at all, don’t even get me started on the management! TOXIC TOXIC TOXIC.

Great Co-workers but horrible managment

At first, when I got the job, it was a lot of fun. Management was excellent, co-workers were great. As time went on, however, things changed. Management got pretty bad as they do not care if you are a student. I got forced to work during exams and never seemed to get any time off. There is a big turnover here. The only good thing about this job was my fellow part-time coworkers. I advise everyone to be careful while working for this company. It is not at all what it seems to be at first.

Toxic Work Environment with no support from the Company

In Short Terms: Poor upper management. Lack of support. Crowded spaces. Understaffed. Limited hours. Constant negativity. Useless HR Department.The company did nothing to help any of our problems and it became the most toxic work place I have ever worked at. I could never recommend working for this company. I truly hate saying that but I don't want others to have to hurt the way I did for a company that just didn't care about any of us.

Low moral

The store is a franchise and the owner is a bully to his employees, he tells at them in front of other staff and customers. On 2 occasions he would go for lunch and come back drunk.

Corporate issues not caring of employees

Too much corporate control low pay very unorganized should be more work done done managers to keep customors instead of worring about numbers and pushing people to go in debt with there master cards needs to be more customer service and local involvement with dommunity

Marks

Working here for almost 3 years was the hardest time. They were not understanding of my student schedule or flexible when it came to family emergencies.

Good place to work

Most of the staff is awesome to work with while some stand around or take longer breaks then what they should be taking , the pay isn't that great but the staff discount is pretty good , the managers are nice but need to take more charge of some lazy staff .

Easy atmosphere

Enjoy most days at the job. easy going. Don't have to worry about dress code for the most part. Learn alot about work boots. New fashion. Great sales for employees

Great Atmosphere

Was only there part time, but really enjoyed the team i was involved with. Easy workload. Lots of standing and walking. Flexible scheduling. No complaints at all!

Good Starter Job

Mark's is a good place to work as a first retail job, but not great in the long run. You have to be pretty independent and have to be able to learn quickly when you first start, because there is an immense lack of training. I also find it difficult sometimes to balance work with school, extra curriculars, etc, because I always receive way more hours than my max, and there are constantly new online courses you have to take. Other than that, it isn't a bad first job, it pays moderately well, and has good discounts.

Friendly and flexible

Marks works with your schedule and values a positive work atmosphere. the management was friendly and co-workers were happy to help out and teach tips and how to use different systems. I worked part time as a student and was an overall positive experience

job was great

the job was great until the higher-ups decided with our new manager the store needed a "new start". but besides that everything was great all the other employees were amazing to work with.

Casual Work

I worked part time while at Mark's and it was pretty standard retail work. My coworkers were nice and my job duties were fairly standard; keep everything clean and orderly, engage with customers, answer phones, etc...

Well rounded job

Although I no longer work at Mark’s I did enjoy the time I spent there. I would recommend to anyone looking for a fast paced job. Lovely and fun company to work for.

Love the people I work with hate the job

Marks from October-First week of January is alright you get decent hours but it’s also mostly seasonal staff January-September is horrible you are lucky to get 1-3 4hour shifts a week, in general I’ve had to fight to be able to take a break on time (they are previously scheduled) and trying to get a day off is a joke. I will say I do really get along with 90% of the people I work with they are good people and really do their jobs the best they can with what they are given.

A productive work environment that encourages team work and open communication

At Mark’s, I was always encouraged to put my best foot forward. Albeit bearing a casual atmosphere, hard work and dedication were always greatly valued. Furthermore, Mark’s was a friendly and open environment that was focused on making all individuals on the premises feel heard and appreciated. As a sales associate at Mark’s, you are expected to keep the premises clean, tidy, and presentable for the customers while making an effort to hit daily sales targets. Although sales targets were important, our managers always emphasized the value of making customer service a priority. Similarly, at Mark’s, it was greatly encouraged to let excellent customer service do the selling. This being said, I quickly learned the value of interpersonal relationships in sales. I also learned the value of selling people products that they believed in; people do not buy products they do not need and do not believe in. These valuable lessons were learned due to the excellent management at Mark’s. The managers at Mark’s frequently led by example and were very approachable if you had questions. During my short time at Mark’s, my managers taught me various sales tactics and encouraged me to pursue my passions, even if those passions were not work related. The managers at Mark’s frequently led by example, and were not only excellent people, but excellent employees themselves. Similarly, this meant that scheduling conflicts seldom occurred, and if they did, they were dealt with promptly. Management was also quick to deal with other forms of conflict promptly and professionally. Ultimately, my time spent -

Enjoyable place to work

I really enjoyed working at Marks, like any business it is not perfect and has some hard customers to deal with. It is fast paced and usually has something new to everyday. There is lots to learn there and great discount opportunities. I would definitely work there again

fast paced work environment

All the employees were very cooperative with each team member. Sometimes there were days when the store is busy, then each member has their own duties to do to work effectively and efficiently.
