Mark's (owned by Canadian Tire) is a company undergoing a lot of internal changes to continue their success. This is an evolving company so there is a strong need to be flexible and positive while these changes occur. This company is good to their staff and really care about work-life balance. There is a strong focus on mental well-being and plenty of room for advancement.

I enjoyed my time at Marks. The store staff at Sunridge are excellent. Friendly, accepting and supportive. Commonly a busy place to be but quiet times allow for getting other things done. The hardest part of the job is that many returns are accepted at store level. This can add to stress at cashier level for many reasons. They have a very lenient return policy.

A day at work- I wish we had 4 hr shifts?
Learned a lot about the culture at Mark's.

Management was a glorified Clerk.

Hardest part of the job was folding and standing.

I always like knowing some about my peeps I work with.

I personally wouldn't recommend working for the company. Although one good thing I have to say is that they are very accommodating with your school schedule. On the other hand, they're very heavy on favoritism. It's very hard to climb the ladder with the company. If you're looking for a casual summer job it's decent.

There is a lot of complacency within the different department branches. People are promoted based on how likeable they are and often do not have the required skills to do their job.

I really enjoyed working at Marks, like any business it is not perfect and has some hard customers to deal with. It is fast paced and usually has something new to everyday. There is lots to learn there and great discount opportunities. I would definitely work there again

Everyone in your Mark’s just wants to see you succeed. They’re patient, understanding and willing to help you be the best employee possible. Duties you will have are tagging merchandise, keeping up your department, cashier help, re-stocking, customer phone service/store service for hold items, end of shift cleaning duties (washrooms, store mop/sweep, garbages). I suggest if you are applying to a location in Calgary try to get a job at the Deerfoot Meadows location.

Ok place to work for students or for a first job. Learn to cash, tidy up and help customers find what they are looking. Customers can be very rude at times.

A good, stable Canadian company with strong direction and goals. Invest in their employees. Have strong company culture. Lots of room for internal advancement.

It's an okay retail jobs when you're young but definitely a labour intensive job - lots of moving and such of products from warehouse to sales floor. Decent part time job.

I had poor management at my store, constantly between new bosses every few months, and almost no benefits working there as a part time. Other than that it was a pretty standard retail job

Only something for high school students, if you're trying to advance in the company it will take an extremely long period of time.
The pay is terrible - they do yearly reviews but low-non existent raises.

Marks has been the best place to work at for me. I have made lifelong friends and have improved not only my product knowledge but the way I speak and deal with customers. It truly is an amazing place to have a career if you are looking for a base pay job!

Working at Mark's was an enjoyable time, however store management was powerless and could do nothinf to aid good workers or be rid of bad ones. Absolutely no room for advancement.

I worked at the crowfoot marks for some time and the management is by far the worst I have ever had. Bulling and gossip was common for the 45 year old manager. She is terrible to her employees. I never send people there way, even though the clothes are wonderful.

A typical day goes as follows: usually you have a few tasks to finish such as pulling out a new product, repricing items in sale or clearance season but you’ll have to learn to balance all your tasks as well as help customers periodically and clean up any messes you come by. The people you work with are usually pretty great, all ages from high school students to people who are about to leave the workforce, it’s a laid back environment with easy dress code. The customers are one of the best parts about the job, obviously you’ll get a difficult person to please every once in awhile but you’ll end up getting a lot of regulars who are just happy for a warm smile and a good deal. The hours are pretty good, although Christmas season can be very busy.

Hours within the store is constantly changing(inconsistent). Being a key holder(supervisor/shift leader) isn't worth it -> no insentive (you make the same as everyone else but have a couple more hours) corperate doesn't care about the stores even though that's where the money is being made? No consistency when it comes to policies, they are there to make the customer happy even if it's roadside robbery.

The Company has changed since Canadian Tire Co. bought it. Work environment was busy and exciting however since Mark's was purchased by Canadian Tire Co., Management changed and overall environment has changed a lot as well, causing employees work over and to have more responsibilities.

How can you Deliver exceptional customer service including providing product knowledge to your customers , when the manager is very bad , hides in the stock room and don't care about customers or the staff... I was not happy to work there when we got a different manager and the district manager doesn't care about any staff .

Honestly the worst company I have ever worked for. Not nessesarly FGL but Mark's itself. Terrible leadership team. No training what so ever. You are just thrown in the mix. Treated like a number rather then a valued employee.

Good company to work for... If you don't mind doing long hours some days to the point of over time and not get paid for it.

Do one thing wrong and basically are fired or forced to quit.


Worked hard for 4 years with nothing to show for it


Oh and low pay too
