  • There are so many things wrong working at Mark's. I have never had a job in my life that treated its' employees with such malice. Toxic and soul crushing.The company NEEDS an overhaul completely. Where would I start to fix it?1. More Staff and Hours: The store makes enough money at this point where it's almost impossible to keep up without adding more support in hours/staff to keep up with demands. It was a battle everyday deciding what should be worked on bc we didn't have the man power to do everything the company asked of us. Cutting corners like this made everyday stressful as we always knew we could never catch back up.2. Space: The store is smaller then it should be. Considering the amount made at this store has DRASTICALLY increased, the company decides to send more product without actually giving space to put it. The back room is BEYOND cramped, boxes of product often sits in closed fitting rooms or even on the floor, and with DOM (online) orders it just becomes too much to handle.3. Better Management: The instore management team while I was working did their best. The general manager and assistant general manager work incredibly hard for the company, but constantly get demeaned and yelled at for not doing enough. The manager I worked for had due to a lot from problems within the company and that hurts. The people who work upper management do nothing for us, and often criticize our work methods even though they refuse to listen to our requests for help. We did what we were able to given the circumstances. Anytime the Regional Manager was coming down to our store, there was always a sense of dread. Knowing there would be no positives said about what we had done, only focusing on the areas we lacked in killed so much morale. The store needs help, but no upper management seems to care enough to do anything about it.4. HR Department: This one is VERY personal. This company put so much stress on others and myself. It was beyond difficult trying to hold myself together during this time. I was in the worst mental state of my life because Mark's refused to help with any of our problems, and we just couldn't keep up.I did the company review process Mark's asks it's employees to do. I filled out everything written here and more. I described in great detail the lengths my co-workers went to to keep me safe from doing anything drastic. I had no more hope or will anymore. I wrote this all out to the HR, and I remember one question more then any and it was this."Do you think anyone will read this review?"My response was "No, because if someone did, I would have a health check done on me because I want to kill myself working here"I take this very seriously, and I was in the most pain in my life. I wanted a response. I wanted the company to show they did care, that they were just misguided or anything like that. I wanted to help change the business to make it better.But nothing. We got nothing. Not a word about the review, no changes. Just silence as normal.I left Mark's this year because I couldn't put myself through the pain anymore. Having no job during the Covid-19 crisis was more appealing then having to work another day in Mark's.My last day I had written up 2 leave notices. 1 was for the day of, and the other was a 2 week notice. The regional manager was in town training the new general manager for her first day. Depending on how the day went I was gonna hand in one or the other notices.The first thing we did when we opened was have a team meeting. Here's the order of things said in that meeting by the regional manager.1. We weren't getting enough emails and we needed to get on it.2. We weren't getting enough credit cards and needed to get on it.3. Introduce yourself to the manager and what you do here.I think that speaks volumes about the priorities of the store and upper management team.So much needs to change here, and unless higher ups actually do something about this, they are just going to ruin the lives of so many others. The only type of person I can recommend this to is a person looking for a couple hours for extra pay that doesn't care about doing any work. It's not worth it any other way. I wish the best to the people working in the store, they work so hard for so little. Mark's though was the most painful work experience I have ever had and I will strive from now on to make sure no work place is remotely like this.
