It's good to work with the employees, fun and easy to understand

L'avis le plus utile, sélectionné par IndeedGood to work with them, fun and easy to understand the menus, its just that some managers doesnt care about the expiration dates and if someone will tell them to throw it because it is expired that person will be in some trouble. Honestly i dont want to serve something that isnt good. And they are giving us less hours than expected.

14 février 2022Hi there, Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. We're terribly sorry that you didn't receive as many hours as expected, it's been so tough to predict schedules given pandemic related sales fluctuations. Regarding managers not respecting expiry dates, this is a very serious transgression with real health and safety considerations and we're shocked that you witnessed this! We'd like to follow up with the manager in question and would greatly appreciate if you could reach out to us at hello@madradish.com with more details. I'm one of the co-founders and I look after that inbox so you can be assured that there will be an immediate and serious follow up. Thanks so much, Stephanie
A fun and interesting company to gain experience in the food industry. Rewarding and progressive career opportunities.
Mad Radish has great food and standards. It is similar to any other fast food or gourmet fast food place in the type of work. The training is online and in house and very comprehensive - you even need to do one module before coming to your first shift, it is easy and sets you up well. The work is fast paced and not difficult. You need a good amount of energy. All staff get mixed tasks, which include serving, prepping and cooking the food and cleaning in quiet time. The standards are high but the prep work is made very easy using the simplest recipes. As a team member you are paid fairly and if you are seen to be a good worker they do offer payrises! As a shift manager you have more responsibility and are responsible for what happens on your shift, this is recognized in the competitive pay. Mad Radish are great at recognizing talented workers and are constantly promoting staff. Team members to shift managers, shift managers to AGMs and AGMs to GMs. So it is a great place to work if you are looking for career advancement in the industry. It is a great place to meet new people and the staff are all so helpful!
Points positifs
Free lunches, good atmosphere, great food, great experience, opportunities for advancement
Points négatifs
Fast paced - you need to be energetic

Bad Company, Awful Managers, and Terrible Workplace
Shift Manager (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 15 septembre 2021
When I was offered a role at Mad Radish, I was super excited! Seemed like a great, local company that offered flexible hours, close-knit workers relationships, and great opportunities. If that's the job you're looking for, heed my advice: run while you can. My time at Mad Radish is what I imagine dogs that used to sniff out land mines felt like. Everywhere you seem to step, it blows up in your face. Initially hired, you are asked to do hours of training modules, without pay. That was something I was willing to overlook. Then, I got my hours - as a student, I had asked for 15 to 20 hour work weeks, so I could keep atop my classes. Very quickly, I was thrown into 40+ hour workweeks in a terrible store that had no compassion or understanding for training new onboards, describing routines and policies, or even giving you basic respect. My fourth shift I left the store crying. Despite this, I stayed on and was promoted to a Manager position very rapidly. Sound's great, you're thinking! And I thought so too... until I realized I was essentially being forced to do extra hours of work (on top of what was already expected of me - which is a lot), manage and train new staff (while lacking proper training myself) and also run the store open to close somewhere in the meantime. Needless to say, a lot of pressure for someone who wanted a 15/20 hour workweek. I also came to find out the company has a history of not offering raises with this position. Sounds like exploitation of labour to me. This lifestyle - this COMPANY - is simply not sustainable. This also does not mention the way I -

We have a fun team in the store
Shift Manager (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 2 septembre 2021
There are moments when we have to move fast, but it's not difficult. I like to be in a fast pace environment where the time flies instead of getting board. My team is a lot of fun and the mangers keep coming back with different type of competitions to win gift cards. I got Starbucks gift card once and then a visa card. We didn't have that in the previous workplace.
Points positifs
Fun, opportunity to get extra money
Points négatifs
none

Great staff but terrible management
Team Member (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 23 juin 2021
High management is awful and doesn’t care about the people. Staff is stressed about losing their jobs or losing hours. Not enough people scheduled during busy hours but too many people scheduled during slow hours. GMs are quitting left and right, teenagers are asked to do 40 hours and shift managers do the work of AGMs because of the lack of one.
Points positifs
Free lunch during 6 hour shift, employee discounts anytime, flexible shifts
Points négatifs
Missing staff, late scheduling, bad management

Worst company
Restaurant Shift Manager (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 8 juin 2021
The managers are lazy and just keep bully team members. They always schedule short staff to save labour which makes team members super tired because they have to run around like crazy. Worst company ever!
Points positifs
Nothing
Points négatifs
Bullied by managers

Great experience so far
Team Member (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 26 avril 2021
I've been working for Mad Radish for only 4 months, but it has been very enjoyable experience so far. I was trained downtown as I was waiting for my store to open. It was pretty quiet due to COVID, but once we open my store it was busy. Customers love our food and it makes me feel good. My collogues are fun and everyone helps each other. I'm definitely going to recommend this place to everyone.
Points positifs
Fun supportive environment
Points négatifs
Nothing so far

Food is amazing
Team Member (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 25 mars 2021
I love this fresh, healthy food. It's corporate own so the training and support is better than some other places I worked before. I got a small pay increase after a few months which is great as my previous work place did reviews only once per year.
Points positifs
free food

Good place to work and eat
Team Member (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 3 mars 2021
I had a good time here. My store was quiet because of COVID, but we still had enough to do so the time was passing fairly fast. Lunch was free, but there were also a lot of situations where they let you eat pizza with the rest of the team :)
Points positifs
Good food and discounts on your days off.
Points négatifs
Slow pace because of COVID

This place is great. My team was fun and we had a good time together. Some days are very busy, but it doesn't last long, maybe an hour or two. Otherwise is very manageable.
Points positifs
Free lunches and free uniform
Points négatifs

They are intimidating
Team Member (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 13 février 2021
The problems with Mad Radish started early on. My training consisted of online modules that were excessive and tedious. I spent a good 3 hours for the company before getting paid. Aside from the online portion my training was non existent. Team members were supportive but due to the fast pace and stress I felt overemlmed right away. The problem is with the management I think. They are intimidating. They would call you on your days off and don't seem to care if you have a life outside work (which is stressful). After not getting trained, upper management was harsh with my job performance only a few weeks in. I didn't feel comfortable with the work environment. I started off keen and ready to learn expecting to enjoy working for a start up and quickly realized it was all about what was convenient for management.

Great place to work
Team Member (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 22 janvier 2021
Good place to work with free food and flexible hours. I worked in other places around the city and I like the food here. The pay is the same as everywhere else, but you can try to get promoted to a higher position with better pay.
Points positifs
free food, online training
Points négatifs
high expectations

Supportive environment
Team Member (Employé actuel) - Ottawa, ON - 12 janvier 2021
I've been here for a couple of months only, but I feel at home now. My team is great, my manager cares and helps us out on the line. One of the owners is always around and very approachable. One time he brought pizza for everyone and the other day gave me a gift card to recognize my hard work. That was so nice.
Points positifs
supportive environment, high pace, opportunity for growth
Points négatifs
minimum wage at the beginning

I loved working there
Shift Manager (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 8 décembre 2020
I loved working there and the team and management were great. Always coming with new ideas so they can improve. A lot of comments here about how bad the environment is, but if you are the wrong person for the job, don't expect to be happy. This is fast food, not your typical 9-5 that a lot of people wanted to get after joining. I was there for over a year and I've never seen anyone had problems if they wanted to do the job or get a promotion.
Points positifs
Free lunch, recognition from manager, flexible schedule
Points négatifs
Pay until you get promotion

No Structure and terrible upper management
Shift Leader/ Production Kitchen Manager, Ottawa (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 18 septembre 2020
I worked for this company for a year. I watched upper management bully the store managers to the point of them having to take mental health leave. I think the company is trying to grow to fast without making sure they have a solid foundation. So many unreasonable things if you have a sick day your are written up and it goes into your file. I recently had a family who fell ill because they had a stroke. I missed some work and was written up for it. There is no compassion or kindness whatsoever.
Points positifs
Free food when working
Points négatifs
Upper management doesn’t care about staff

I would give 0 stars
Shift Manager (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 16 septembre 2020
Awful unorganized toxic work environment trying to do much in terms of menu that nothing gets done well. They preach eco friendly but could be doing a lot more in the back of house. They will tell every staff they are working on their development so they can load on extra responsibilities and never pay them more or promote the. Really high turnover the mangers are mostly new and incompetent .
Points positifs
Food is alright
Points négatifs
Culture, management

People running it are the worst
Manager (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 16 septembre 2020
I had high hopes going in as a manager. Despite promoting a culture of caring, they do not. The corporate team belittles and yells openly at people. They don't have a good grasp of what they are doing and it ends up being hardest for the hourly staff. They hire and fire easily. Some senior team members are inappropriate. The owners should spend more time at locations talking to staff to get a better idea of what is going on.
Points positifs
Good food. Pretty place. Nice staff.
Points négatifs
No support, a lot of blame. Bad company culture and treatment of people.

Fun staff but issues with management
Team Member (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 10 février 2020
Fun team of employees but management was not good. Very corporate and did not stay true to their word regarding benefits. Also very slow and long shifts.

Highly dysfunctional company, poor management.
Team Member (Ancien employé) - Ottawa, ON - 12 janvier 2020
Management is unreliable and downright abusive to their employees. Your hours can fluctuate from 5 to 30 a week depending on what is convenient for the manager, not the staff. This is an issue as MOST days they are understaffed. Because of this, the work environment is stressful and negative to say the least.
This company also paints itself as sustainable, eco-friendly which it is NOT by any means.
Sure, you get free lunches, but at the cost of your mental health.
I would not recommend working here.

Positive work environment with opportunity to grow
Catering Coordinator (Employé actuel) - Toronto - 30 décembre 2019
I've been working with the company for several months and I'm genuinely surprised and delighted by how the management team empowers their staff. I've been given many opportunities to learn new skills and to sharpen my existing ones.
Start-up culture isn't for the faint of heart, so the work environment requires you to come equipped with hustle, grit and a can-do attitude. There will be times when you'll be asked to do tasks that might not necessarily align with your job title, but don't get discouraged. If you possess the mindset of working towards the 'bigger picture', then this is the company for you. The pay off is worth it! It's a wonderful company with endless potential.
