Safety is a Joke
Labourer (Employé actuel) –  Canada26 septembre 2019
If you don’t mind excreting in a bucket and then handling your own feces to disguard it... this is the place for you..

Radiation warning labels on wrenches ... will not protect you... but will allow Loram due diligence... Safety Ha.....

Slave labour at it's finest
General Labourer (Ancien employé) –  Canada10 avril 2019
Company preaches safety above anything else yet they work you 12 plus hours a day, almost always without anytime off or adequate rest between shifts. Non unionized.
Points positifs
lots of overtime which helps swallow the terrible hourly rate
Points négatifs
long days, little rest, no days off, 12 weeks out

Not what people suspect it is.
Labourer (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON27 février 2019
They have a hard time finding Canadian Employees. When I was down in training they said most Canadians fails there drug test. But I got myself into this job with no experience what so ever. I found out the hard way about what this company is about. They praise about safety in training but there is little safety out in the field. They say work rotations are between 6-8 weeks. My first time out was little over 13 weeks. They pay a low wage for what your expected to do. Higher up superiors assume trainees knows everything when in most cases they have little knowledge of how things work.

If you like working 12 plus hours a day with little to no breaks for a low wage this job is for you.

I don't recommend this job for people with families.

Don't expect to have a life outside of work
General Labourer (Ancien employé) –  Saskatoon, SK8 août 2018
Long rotations away from home. 6 weeks but they will keep you for up to 12 weeks. Send you home for a maximum of 2 weeks but that included fly days so you end up only home for 11 days. If they dont call you to come back early. Its impossible to plan for anything at home and they dont care. Basically managment tells you id you dont like it then leave.
Points positifs
Lots of free travel
Points négatifs
Long hours always away from home

Good for a single person with little to no family
Lead Machine Operator (Employé actuel) –  Hamel, MN16 février 2017
Work is tough, long hours and heavy labour but rewarding due to the salary returned. You work 10-20 weeks out and home for 2 weeks on average, working 70-90 hours a week. If you enjoy the labour type work it's a great experience, lots of travel, lots of work, some easier days in comparison to others but mostly steady work.
Points positifs
Good rate of pay, Fast Experience, Move up quickly
Points négatifs
Lack of training, Inability to manage home and work life due to travel

Management and supervisors have no idea on how to run a successful company
Rail grinder (Ancien employé) –  Canada17 mars 2016
This is a very poorly run company , safety is the last concern from my experience everything is about production production production and the safety of employees and maintance of the machine are put last as well as the machines are under staffed so you are sometimes doing the work of two people .Secondly you are getting paid a little over minimum wage at 15$ a hour and are working and doing maintenance the same as other companies who are paying almost double the hourly wage . The supervisors and maintenance leads are usually young and inexperience in life let alone mechanical ability so jobs usually are not done by procedure and are half assed put back together . I personally think loram needs to spend a bit more time and money in properly training there crew in mechanical ability and there supervisors need some management course and how to deal with the employees

The company is on the verge on losing there contract on all CP tracks to a new competitor and maybe they should it might make them wake up and realize they are not doing thing right
Points positifs
There are no pros
Points négatifs
Long hours, no living allowance, dirty, supervisors have no clue, safety is at level 0

Horrible company to work for
General Laborer (Ancien employé) –  Saskatoon, SK7 avril 2015
If you enjoy being harassed on a daily basis and being threatened to lose your job on a constant basis even though you're busting your rump for upwards of 17 hours a day depending on weather, machine break down, and horrible boss. This is the job for you.

I chose to quit due to the amount of harassment coming even from upper management.
Points positifs
paycheck's were ok but all overtime
Points négatifs
no payment worth your skillset, long hours, away from home, no advancement, LOTS of harassment, constant yelling, expected to know everything about the machine 1 week on the site.
