High Stress, Expects Perfection from Part Time Staff, (My Location) Toxic Work Enviroment
Produce Clerk (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 14 mai 2022
I’ve worked at two different Longos Locations and for about Three years now. Positive: They pay quite well, always above Minimum wage even for part-timers. Like most stores some department managers are great, while others are terrible. Negatives: The customers are extremely entitled, you will get belittled for things out of your control and customers will try to take advantage of you. Store managers can also be quite demanding, but that’s understandable since they have to run the store, but it can be quite annoying especially when it’s extremely busy and they’re on you for everything. (My negative experience) the latest store I worked at I tried to transfer from multiple times due to their toxic environment, the problem is Longos has a ridiculous transfer policy where Unless you are urgently needed where you are transferring to, it could take half a year to a whole entire year for you to get transferred. Asking for a transfer and or trying to leave the toxic department will also cause the department manager to treat you worse, and tell stories behind your back. The company preaches that they treat their employees like family but in reality they don’t and they treat there employees more like 2nd class citizens, even though they work hard.

Good connections with fellow staff, poor management and executive team
Produce and Bakery Clerk (Employé actuel) - Toronto, ON - 16 août 2021
Overall at Longo's you can expect to be treated decently. Team members are especially kind and supportive of one another. Management leaves more to be desired. The company is desperate for managers, so they are often inexperienced or unqualified. As well the quality of workplace is heavily dependent on the quality of your manager; bad manager, bad work environment. Their pay is not very competitive. They strive very hard to limit the amount of full time staff, and fill the ranks with part-timers they can pay less, and not give benefits to. I and many others, work full time hours but are "part-timers" that receive no benefits. In terms of workhours, the company has been cutting dramatically in the last few months. If you are a part timer, some get full time hours (like myself) and some only 10 per week. If you are an hourly full time worker, don't expect get more than 37 hours a week. If you are a salary worker, you will need to work 48+ hours a week to keep your department running. Store managers are expected to work over 50 hours a week. In the end, I would say this about Longo's: I used to recommend it as a place to work, now I tell people to look elsewhere.
Points positifs
Typically positive and friendly experience with colleagues
Points négatifs
Executive team disconnected from their staff

Workplace Culture is very friendly and almost feels family like the longer you've been there
Produce Clerk (Employé actuel) - Mississauga, ON - 17 avril 2019
A typical day at work includes, neatly stacking produce to the managers liking, cleaning and assisting customers. I've learned a lot of things over the years especially being in produce, like what to cook stuff with, how healthy something is for me to consume, etc. The management is decent, a lot of young managers don't work and prefer to spend there time on smoke breaks instead. Workplace culture is very family-like and makes you feel like you are apart of the Longos family hosting events, and giving back to the team members. The hardest part of the job for me sometimes is the receptivity of it. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work with your peers you make during the way and you guys becoming close friends after work.

fun place to work with approachable management.
Produce Clerk (Ancien employé) - Richmond Hill, ON - 2 novembre 2018
Management is awesome. I had fun playing around my fruit displays and was surprised to see the my work on one of the flyers. The management knows and rewards the hard working employees. On my second month of work I was offered to be a team leader accepted the offer was trained but was not given the full time job until I quit and accepted other job offer. Learned from my neighbor in my previous address that my full time papers was on my mailbox.
Points positifs
Free (fruits) snacks :) friendly environment. Awesome management
Points négatifs
we've worked past the closing hours as we are undermanned most of the times

Decent job for first time employees
Produce Clerk (Ancien employé) - Burlington, ON - 11 juin 2018
Coworkers were a pleasure to work with but management was undesirable. Many managers had an ego problem and didn't appreciate their employees. Overall i enjoyed working there but wouldn't recommend maintaining such a job.

Would load carts of fresh produce and restock shelves. Would service customers and help them make choices with their grocery shop. Hardest part of job was loading heavy products.

Friendly and fun
Produce Clerk (Employé actuel) - Mississauga, ON - 8 décembre 2016
A typical day at work would involve me and my manager opening up the store 1 hour before opening hours, getting everything ready for the day and having a planned out list of the tasks that were required to be done that day. Management was always stern but fair very easy going but always expected the best of you in the workplace. Never had any issues with fellow co-workers always kept to myself while still being friendly. What I learned was customer service, how to build window displays, how to handle customer complaints, and I also learned shipping and receiving. The hardest part of the job would be during peak hours if we had customers looking for a certain product and having a truck driver arriving with product so dealing with that at first was the hardest part.
Points positifs
Free lunchs, good communication with managers
Points négatifs
Long Hours and early mornings.

Inefficient place to work, no loyalty to employees.
Part-Time produce clerk (Employé actuel) - Aurora, ON - 30 novembre 2016
In my opinion, workers who are loyal to this company are not shown the same loyalty in return. Respect is not returned to employees. Inefficient workplace that does not like new ideas from lower level employees.

Versatile and Productive Environment
PRODUCE CLERK (Ancien employé) - Burlington, ON - 12 septembre 2016
Worked an average of 5-7 hours until closing time (10pm), 3 days a week. Entailed the same cleaning routine to close and clean down the food counters. I was relied on to manage my own breaks and order of work, considering I worked alone for the entirety of my shift. The most difficult part of the job was to ensure everything was of above adequate cleanliness within the time period given. Most enjoyable part of the job was the lack of difficulty and ease it required.
Points positifs
Ease of the Job
Points négatifs
Worked alone

Productive workplace, friendly people
Produce Clerk (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 16 août 2016
It was good working there, everyone was friendly as long as you did your job. The job itself for the produce clerk is probably the hardest position at longos, just because produce section was in charge of the whole stores garbage.
Points positifs
Free lunches
Points négatifs
Really boring job

Good job for entry level jobs
Produce Clerk (Ancien employé) - Oakville, ON - 6 octobre 2015
Longo's is a great place for students to work who need a part time job while in school. The environment is very fast paced. Promotions, and/or new positions, in the company are mildly difficult to come by.
The hardest part of the job would be keeping up with the demand for the shelves to be filled. This is easily overcome by a driven work ethic, and simply focusing on the task at hand.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the friendships and bonds you can make with your coworkers. Depending on the department you work in, learning things you wouldn't otherwise know about the specific food you work with is also very interesting.
Overall, a job at Longo's is recommended.
Points négatifs
Long hours
