I think this is a great job for a young person just entering the workforce. LCBO likes to mould people to their fixed idea of an employee. For this reason, there is not always much opportunity for personal growth and achievement. The salary has been drastically downgraded in the last decade.

Decent training provided, supportive staff during learning process, a lot of structure so not much thinking required. .

Can be extremely tedious as there is no room for creative problem solving.

Use to be the place to work and company to work for.
B' STORE MANAGER (Ancien employé) –  Mississauga, ON; Oakville; Brampton25 juin 2019
Although it prides itself on it’s “Customer Service” it had deteriorated over the last 7-8 years into a micro- managed, almighty dollar dictatorship. It used to be a good place to work were the LCBO respected the importance of work/life balance for it’s employees. We were told by our District Manager not to use that phrase again in front of staff or to new hires. Beginning of the end from that point forward.
Although I am thankful and happy to have stuck it out and enjoying retirement, I truly feel bad for the friends and colleagues who have to work in this environment of negativity day after day.

I worked as a seasonal customer rep during December.
It was quite busy but pretty fun; the staff was always willing to help us new employees as there is a lot to know. Management is professional and pleasant.

Formerly Part-time Customer Service Representative. It was a fun job to work at. Great co-works (at times), Great Managers (depending on the store). Loved the Reps coming in and providing knowledge on either wine, beer or spirit. Product and Service Knowledge testing which accounts for your pay raise. LCBO provides in-house Smart Serve training to handle and sell alcohol. Baler training and Palet Training. LCBO provides Continual Educational Training, but not all employees know this! Always check your hours!!!

Overall, a great place to work depending on store and employees!!!

sometimes in the festive period, very busy but everything was under control, Customers would wants their product at the same time but the management wanted all staff to be safe and have a balance tail. otherwise i enjoy the fact that i put a smile on all my customer faces

A typical day would include helping customers, counting money, stocking inventory and engaging in interactions between employees and customers. The workplace culture was a variety of different personelles, all bringing different strengths to the environment. The customers who came in may have brought some difficulty along with them, but our team was strong and hardworking. The hardest part of the job was to stay confident and trust your instinct for every part; if the identification looked fake, if a box was too heavy, if a customer was intoxicated, etc. The most enjoyable part was coming in and feeling welcomed and trusted to be working there!

A typical day is spent with giving Outstanding Customer Service,
whether on the sales floor or on cash. I have learned about wines, beer and alcohol. I have learned to run a cash and challenge underage or intoxicated individuals and do it professionally. The management is great and it is a good culture. The hardest part of the job is dealing with intoxicated individuals. The most enjoyable part of the the job is dealing with the customers and building relationships with them.

Hard to rely on consistent paycheck

After 9 years as a casual, my hours have been cut twice. They can get away with giving me a 4 hour shift, and someone just hired will get a shift of the same length. No stability, always asked to stay a full shift at the last minute. Casuals at top rate get paid $7 per hour less than full time employees for doing the exact same work, even if you work the same number of hours. If you don't specify a weekday that you are unavailable, you could end up working 7 days a week, but short shifts. I went from 37 to 40 hours per week to 20 hours without any warning. There is also very much an "us" and "them" mentality as some fulltime employees feel that casuals are below them, even though they have been there themselves. I really regret wasting 9.5 years there, and am looking elsewhere.
