While working at Journeys, they had very strict sales goals, that if you did not reach them every month, you had warnings until they let you go. It made working there very stressful considering our location did not have many people willing to buy more than one pair of shoes or accessories.

terrible, and i mean HORRIBLE management. the sales tactic is basically to literally force customers to buy, its honestly a ridiculous was to sell. just not worth it

I worked for Journeys for 3 years and worked in management for 1 year and is a competitive work place as you need to hit your daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly numbers so sometimes work can be stressful but if you stay on top of your numbers 95% of the time you're in the clear. My concern is that regional managers and district mangers tend to favor men in the work place which i haven't seen before at other companies. As well as managers tend to get away with things in the workplace as long as the store ans their personal numbers are doing well.

I was hired last year and they gave me a hard time every shift. While they were on shift they gossip about other stores and make fun of customers behind their backs. Theyre very caddy and they were not nice or welcoming. On my last shift they left all the shoes for me to put away and were mean the whole day. At the end of the shift they told me "it wasnt working out" and I told them I was thinking about quiting anyways ans that if they really wanted to be good managers that they would do a better job of making new employees feel welcomed. It was a horrible experience and I would for sure never try and apply again or shop there either.

I worked at the same store for 3 years and I became a sales lead after 2.5 years. I had been a top seller in my store and a very trustworthy employee from the beginning, but I was young starting off. I had gone through about 6 managers, there was always an employee stealing for the store, and the commission was a lie. I have been wronged many times by the company and by upper management, but I really did love my job and the adrenaline rush from making my goals was almost enough to keep me.

Journeys was quite possibly one of the worst job experiences for me. It was a job for me to have while I searched for a career job (there is almost no room for advancement at Journeys).

One of the biggest reasons this job was so horrible was the terribly trained managers and the brutal management who did nothing to ever resolve situations at the store. Some of the people I worked with were friendly and outgoing which made working a little bit easier to handle.


Expect to only make minimum wage with no benefits and although the managers will tell you you get commission off accessories you sell the district managers will tell you otherwise. Also you don't receive any benefits.


You have to hit your daily goals at Journeys which include shoe sales, multiple shoes, accessories and socks. The goals are obtainable but really high considering some days are incredibly slow making those goals almost impossible. Why are the goals so high when the employees are only making $14/hr?


While I was there I ran into constant problems including:

-Drama caused by the managers who tried to enforce rules made up on their own terms

-The manager was reported to HR many times by many fellow employees and HR did nothing but let the manager know they were reported which just made the manager want to get the employee who reported them fired

-The managers I worked with were told to try to get certain employees fired by district managers which is absolutely ridiculous

-Constant privacy violations including but not limited to managers looking through employee phones placed in the back room,
 - plus...

selling shoes, those who enjoy making commission and thrive at sales will excel in this work environment. Having sales goals to beat it can get competitive between associates. Management at the location i worked was unfortunately not the greatest. They played favourites and didn't really pay attention to other associates.

Fun place to work. Culture is great, vary fun. they give you goals to work towards through the day so you are pushed to reach that with gives you some motivation.

no longer a fun work environment. Instead of advancing it feels as if the opposite is happening. I used to be excited for work but now i am just excited to go home every time i work.
