This company focused a lot on numbers and there were consequences if you didn't make them. I found near the end it got to be more about who was better friends with who other than who was truly the best at their job.

On the surface Journeys seems like a good place to work. The staff is friendly and the store has a cool atmosphere. There's shoes for babies, toddlers and adults in so many colors and styles. They're always playing music you know along with music videos on their TVs. Seems like the coolest place to work? Wrong. I was hired as a Co Manager at Journeys even though I had never worked there before. I was excited and hopeful when they told me I would be salaried as well as get commision. I quickly realized that "salary" meant a base pay. My base pay was less than what people typically make for a 40 hour work week on minimum wage. If I made my sales goals for the week, my commision on top of my base pay was EXACTLY equivalent to what I would make if got paid minimum wage for a 40 hour work week. This would be okay if I wasn't the assistant manager. I was expected to do three times as much as my part time staff but got paid exactly the same??? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Higher up management is extremely nit picky. You could do 10 things right and they will find 20 things wrong. Each month you get rated on your performance and if you don't make you sales or SOPS (socks, accessories, etc.) 3 months in a row you're terminated. Very stressful environment to work in especially if you're having difficulty meeting sales goals due to factors outside of your control such as traffic and people genuinely not wanting to buy add ons.

The company as far as culture is great, however the management is not supportive and there is alot of politics that take away from the job. Some instances with this job i felt as though i was being forced to fight for my job because of who i was hired by vs who currently works there.

Got promoted to an assistant manager position, but instead of a raise from going from part-time to assistant I was put on commission with a base pay of $150 a week. Working on commission while having to perform manager duties makes for small paychecks equal to working less than minimum wage more than half the time. Other than that the company is good.

Journeys is a wonderful company to work for at store level, if you're interested in short-term work. There is definitely room for advancement within the company, if you show the initiative. There are also great perks (including 40% discount, free shoes during the year for managers and co-managers, sales contests, etc.). However, for co-managers and managers, pay scale is almost completely commission based, making certain times during the year more difficult than others to make decent wages. If you have the drive to succeed, you will be rewarded.

I learnt how to manage multiple different tasks and use amplify peoples strengths and to work on the weaknesses to improve my team I would have to transfer items in and out of store, assign sales goals to all employees

We have a great team at Journeys. I think in a workplace that is very important. I enjoy leading my team, and helping them with different Sales Marketing strategies that will help us improve. The key thing about success in my mind, is strong management. With strong management, it pushes the team to be the best they can be, and we all want to work harder. Journeys is a positive environment. I enjoy dealing with customers, and meeting new people everyday. Some customers can be tricky, but those are my favourite ones. I like a challenge, and pushing myself to achieve goals in my day to day life.
