Work hours are steady, but it takes awhile to get there. It's incredibly fast-paced, so you do learn to adapt to a high-speed environment, and you get a lot of exposure to a lot of different types of clients, so it is a great place to start your career as a trainer. They generally hire great people, so coworkers are rarely a problem. Management at any level does not care to listen to their employees' concerns and shows an overt lack of respect, and it is commonplace for the employees to say that they do not get paid enough, which is true, in my opinion. Employees are disgruntled and unhappy. Management will push you around if they think you can be pushed around, and this includes your pay negotiations. Do not ask for anything less than $27 to start. Know you rights as an employee inside and out. It is so fast paced that a finding chance to obtain knowledge and grow professionally proves to be tough, despite the level of talent you can find in any of their gyms.
I expected to join IF for only a year as 'just a job' after I graduated. But once I became immersed in this incredibly supportive culture surrounded by intelligent, kind and intentional people, I just couldn't leave. The energy and accountability is infectious, and you learn something new every day from the experienced teams here.Management has made great strides to improve pay, work/life balance and communication over my time at IF and it shows. They continue to work on these things and they've shown incredible support to employees through the COVID-19 pandemic, pivoting to virtual training to keep us all working and earning, and investing in software to make our jobs easier and operations smoother. This is a place where you truly do get out what you put in - if you're ready to commit to building a home for yourself and growing constantly, this is the company for you.
Culture, Opportunities to create your own niche
Amazing culture, team and excellent perks if you are a fitness fan this is the place for you! Your benefits package includes two personal training sessions weekly. Very fast paced, AMAZING management, must be detail oriented and open to sales and marketing.
Great place if you are looking to be a part of a team and want to grow personally and professionally in the fitness industry. If you are looking to become more than a trainer, there is the opportunity to specialize in other areas. A very inclusive family like workplace where you do a lot of events together. If you are not interested in doing fun events outside of work with the team and clients, it's not the place for you. If you haven't worked as a trainer anywhere else you wouldn't know the difference but at IF you don't have to worry about sales, clients are provided to you so its one of the more client centred authentic places to work as a trainer. Don't expect to be paid like what you would if you worked independently but remember you don't have to do any sales (generate leads, marketing, insurance, holiday coverage, scheduling, billing) all stuff you would have to pay for independently. You are definitely expected to go above and beyond so work life balance can be tough at times but that's what it takes to be successful based on the systems provided.
Absolutely one of the worst companies I have ever worked for. Boast about valuing employees and community, will literally sh it on you as soon as your back is turned. Just be sure you’re a yes man/woman if you want to get on at Innovative. I would recommend anyone who values their mental health stay clear of this company.

Unreliable company with poor management. This company ownes by a private person whose looking for a labor not a personal trainer and he doesn’t know anything about management. He hired some amateur trainers who believe they are soooo professional. but they know nothing at all:)
You are judged and bullied into training at the facility a minimum number of times a week. Body type comments are made as well as various other judgemental behaviours. You are not paid for extra work outside of normal work hours but are expected to participate in the extra activities. Every week you are expected to meet with the manager for a one-on-one goal setting/check-in meeting where you are talked down to by your "superior". The staff meetings are also unpaid but mandatory, if you miss them, you are made an example of in the staff meeting and verbally bullied amongst coworkers. Mandatory "self-help/growth" ? style booklet that is humongous and requires significant unpaid efforts and VERY personal questions that are aimed to help you "grow" as a person. If you do not answer them, you are judged and pressured. Honestly... stay away from this company unless you really like being a part of a cult that only appreciates you when you benefit them. They will pretend to have your best interest. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the incapable management team, the drama, and struggling to be appreciated for work efforts.
steady hours for certain staff members, access to gym equipment, music
poor management, cult-like culture, disrespectful teammates, judgemental facility, inappropriate behaviour, low pay, extra work, unpaid hours, unpaid breaks, workbooks
Management/corporate encourages illegal working conditions for the coaches/hourly staff. Coaches are overworked and the unreasonably high expectations that are placed on them result in plenty of unpaid hours of work. The company has an 'unwritten' expectation that coaches are going to be required to complete unpaid work outside of their paid hours. This is routinely enforced by questioning the coaches' loyalty to the company and threatening the coaches' jobs /wages/opportunities if they do not comply. Coach wages are low, inconsistent, and unfairly distributed. The administrative staff are poorly trained and worked to the bone with extremely little support or guidance. They are forced to cope with the disorganized chaos on a daily basis. Unreasonable goals and expectations placed on the administrative staff without clear instruction or proper leadership. Salaried administrative staff are often forced to make themselves available to management and clients at all times (on top of a 40 hour work week), even when they are "off the clock" before and after work, on weekends, or on vacation without paid overtime. Company policies and practices are constantly changing at the whim of management/corporate with little explanation or training provided to help employees understand and follow through with the changes.
Friendly coworkers, high energy atmosphere, challenging work environment Great group health benefits, some (limited) opportunities to grow within the company
Long hours, illegal employment practices, unpaid work required, unreasonable expectations, poor management, lack of direction
Very good work place, great staff. A lot of unpaid work however, and compensation is provided for it. Met a lot of great clients and friends however! Great stepping stone position.
A lot of unpaid work

Typical Day - morning shift is 6 am-3 pm, evening is 11 am-8 pm and you can be booked with a client any-time within your shift (unless you request otherwise). You're expected to be around during your shift even if you don't have a client (although you aren't paid). I learned how to network with a lot of business professionals, I learnt how to manage my own team and I learned a lot about how to motivate and positively influence people. Management - not often seen. Workplace culture - Awesome - young & active people! Phenomenal clients too. Hardest part of Job: Making money, unfortunately the actual pay wasn't livable. Most Enjoyable: People X 100. Really fantastic friendships here.
People, flexible schedule, didn't have to build your own schedule (arguably why pay was low)
low pay/hour, hours were also sometimes low
Very structured with little room for creativity. Lots of split shifts and no paid breaks. You only get paid for the hours you are on the floor with a client, but they ask you to fold towels and clean up during the hours between clients. Forced mentor-ship program where you don't get to pick your mentor. They also don't keep clients with the same trainers, but ask you to participate in community events on your own time to get more clients.
Great intro job to get experience and clean professional gym
Mandatory workout structure and poor management
The thing so unique about IF is its energy. The coaches you work with are driven, high energy, passionate and HAPPY! I have learned so much as a coach that has improved my skills in training, personal relationships, and my own personal fitness. This is not a place where you check in and check out. This is a place where people with a passion for awesome experiences and a healthy lifestyle get paid to play! There is a lot of work involved in being a great coach, but Innovative Fitness is structured so that you learn everything you need to know in real-time so you can apply it on the training floor. Plus, there are lots of opportunities to be trained into management positions as well. I have never worked in a place that energizes me and challenges me this much! Plus, you get to travel the WORLD and lead people to their personal fitness destinations!
Coworkers, great events, support, energy
Have you ever seen the tv series, Cheers? Innovatie Fitness is just like that! Every time someone enters the facility, they are personally greeted, the staff all shout their name and say hello. Great atmosphere, with exciting music, happy faces and a lot of sweaty customers working hard! Working there has been amazing, I've learned more about myself in these past three years than I could have ever iagined. My co-workers are all so supportive and encouraging, taking a sincere interest in myself and everyone else. The hardest part of working at IF, is finding balance between work and personal life. With participating in and training for weekend events, and having all of our clients tag along it can be difficult to catch a day off. But the excitement and gratefulness of everyone exceeds all else. Having a heart to heart with a client and having them overjoice with happiness is one of the best feelings I could have experience. I've learned that being genuine and kind to everyone I meet goes further than the eye can see. I plan on using these experiences in my future endeavors.
Friendly and exciting atmosphere. great people.
