One positive was the place would hold onto its good workers in tough times. Seems to have a lot of work coming in but
is not ran too smooth at all. Especially in the welding department after a new supervisor had recently took over. Benefits are poor and overtime is banked which is seemingly always a problem to get paid unless you miss time or want vacation.

Not bad, but only stayed for 2 years and not enough work to keep us all busy. Worked on evening shift, making good money, but the the shift did not last for too long unfortunately and we went back on days. Alberta economy is not great right now.

STAY AWAY!!! THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR!!!
This place is a revolving door, people come and go every month, management doesn’t care about you or your existence. There are too many things to list that are wrong with this place. Here are just a few…you get very little training and there are no policies or procedures in place, everyday there are new rules, there is no culture & no support you are expected to know everything and everything has to be done right NOW.

The owner is verbally abusive and his girlfriend thinks she can manage and run the business being an HR & OM with his guidance, she basically does all his dirty work because he doesn’t want to deal with anything. She micro-manages everyone in this place, you need to ask her for approval before you do anything. It’s hard to be confident and motivated when she is so obsessed with control that they hover over your every move. If you have an issue to discuss, don’t bother, she will brush it under the carpet.

This place doesn't deserve a 1 star!!

Great place to learn and get experience. If you show that you are willing to learn and put in effort, you will be appreciated. Benefits could be better, but better than nothing.

Safety is non existant cranes would be tagged out for repairs management would unlock it and tell immigrant staff to go nuts.

Unpaid mandatory overtime that the owners wife will try to convince you that bank at regular is the same as ot. The foreman i worked for would leave actual work to time bathroom use. A coworker was hit with 600v and was told to walk it off.

Brake and sheer foreman is a condasending complete a hole and should be used as a sweeper cleaning the shop. He has no business managing people. He is ignorant and talks down to people and will stab you in the back the first chance he gets. I would not work here. You are at risk of losing your job at a moments notice. The foreman is not to be trusted. Stay away and flip burgers or anything else. Management is blind and takes the word of the foreman and you have no chance.

Pros:

- Some sort of security - if you enjoy everything discussed below and don't pretend for any wage raise - you will last there regardless your working skills

- Benefits. But they are in the cons list too. At least you get something

- Your hours and work schedule are predictable until some point discussed below.

- Most of the time it is inside job.

- No pressure until they fail on deadline.


Three biggest issues:


1) Safety - company which produces HVAC units can't figure out proper ventilation in the shop. Almost all the time you can fill and see in air - welding fumes, dust (filters never changed), paint vapors (yes, regardless the fact that they have dedicated paint booth they quite often paint big units right beside you). Unsafe overhead crane use practices, pure safety culture in assembling department due to lack of training. Safety lady on the floor is just for show. Sanitary condition is on the lowest level - washrooms are cleaned only once a week, constantly missing towels, soaps etc. For same reason lunchroom is messy too.


2) Management - rude, rude, rude. Don't care about employees until they fail to meet deadlines and want everyone to work "extra hours". Never pay overtime, use bank system. Push workers to use their bank hours whenever company wants, not employee. There is a feeling of segregation on "office workers" - superiors and "floor workers" - inferiors. They don't give any raise in wages for apprentices after their schooling, to the point that they don't bother themselves to give any excuse of doing that. Have seen many great and dedicated
 - plus...

The job is good and the people you work with are great
If you are looking for a good job apply there but the pay is ok but to get a raise is hard to get

-Provide a good training ground to learn many skills. Some of the employees are fun to work with and work as a team. My supervisor assist me with all my questions and I can always rely on her.

-There is a need to increase employee involvement.


-Company offers health and dental benefits, RRSP plan, vacation pay, 1.5 banked time for overtime work,flexible work schedule.


Overall, a good learning experience!

ICE western is a well established company where you can learn a lot if you have the willingness to learn and the right attitude. Office has flexibility for work hours. It is a fast pace environment with changing priorities so It can be stressful on some days but all jobs have that to some extent.
Overall, a good learning experience!

And Management offers good perks such as gift cards, free tickets for events for employees and their families from time to time.

Unfortunately, a lot of good effort is wasted on a company that doesn't recognize the effort put in by employees. Sometimes employees aren't even treated like people. As a supervisor, it is hard to motivate workers when any effort goes unnoticed and unrewarded. Paying for bebefits out of pocket, vacation pay paid out every payday, lack of diligence by upper management, and a constant "blame game" rather than constructive problem solving are some of many issues here. Employees are often asked to work large amounts of banked time and then management gets upset when they use the banked time.

This company has no respect for employees, long hours expected for 8 hours pay, weird bank hour system that doesn't even come close to reflecting the effort put in. Overall, terrible work environment.

Horrible management, un organized and micro managed all the time. Sometimes very busy and makes the days go fast but when it is slow management picks on you and be-littles employees.
Every week there were new process to use and it was confusing.

A lot of tension in the company along with some extremely stressed staff. Turnover rate is high so always having to train new people.
