Management is too quick to micro-manage day to day work. Too many hours per week are required. Advancement takes many years Education is not available to lower pay grades.
Great place to learn as I was on the internal side of support. Management was good for the most part. Work culture was good depending on how your manager was. Most enjoyable part of the job was learning as I was fresh out of school and my collogues.
lots to learn
As the company works to reduce costs by laying off older employees, additional undocumented pressures are being put on remaining employees to do the tasks of the missing workers. New employees are not properly trained as the experience did not get passed on and tools/applications that are broken are not fixed or upgraded to be more efficient due to cost constraints.
Management where I worked did not value any employees, had awful pay for an "IT" job, and was understaffed so workload was meant for two people with one person doing it. Horrible handling of the 2013 Calgary flood (I was "evacuated" at shift changeover, literally MINUTES before flood water broke the banks), then the manager has the audacity to ask to come back to work a week later, while the city was still flooded, and travel routes were still hazardous. Did he want me to canoe into the city? Not the smartest of individuals. The only redeeming quality were the other coworkers.
12 hour shifts, awful handling of emergencies, manager, construction site.
Daily recycable tapes (sorting, classify) using tapes management program. Request and recall tapes from Securesync site, gather and sending offsite media(locked boxes) to Iron Mountain. Keeping update evidence repository day by day with Celero account.
working 12 hours and only 11 hours paid
Good times are long gone for IBM and it is trying hard to find new ways how to make money, i.e. jump on outsourced service model bandwagon. Although humble IT engineers work hard to deliver aggressive SLAs often between way too many clients, products and projects, middle management provides no support or recognition. Morale was very low that time.
Lots of technology advancement
A lot of stress
Workplace environment was fun and management was always attentive and willing to lend a hand . Team leaders were always willing to share knowledge and cross train employees when new subject matter needed to be studied.
