What I really like about the company is their professionalism and how effort of every member valued in the company. When I worked there I was considered to be a member of family instead of an employee.

The management at the Smart Meter and Network Operations Department where very supportive of innovation, which helped to enhance my performance.

While going about my assigned duties, I often noticed areas of improvement in work processes. I proceeded to develop software to meet these needs and demonstrated them to my superiors. They were supportive in that they accepted it and offered suggestions on added functionality that will make the tool more useful for the team.


This was the nature of my work experience at hydro which made it more interesting. I was given the liberty to identify problems and proceed to fix them and report to my superiors.

it was great at the beginning, but as time went by, I realized how racist people were in the Mississauga office. Having been called many racial names by the employees, and even some of the supervisors. If you are a white person, you will not be bothered by anyone, but if you are not white, and are a different religion such as hindu, jewish, bhudist, or muslim, then you will find your self wanting to quit everytime you leave work.

In terms of job security and compensation, Hydro One is one of the best companies to work for in Ontario. Pay is guaranteed to rise due to the union ,and the pension / benefits are amazing.

However, management could use some work. In my former position there was 2 managers and 2 supervisors in a team of ~ 15 people.


Depending on your position, the work you do can be very repetitive and mindless, which can be fine for people who are just there for the money and only look forward to enjoy life out of work. For those who look for a more challenging job, be careful of where you end up, as you may want to find a new one very soon.

My typical day involved performing database updates, coordinating activities with field staff with the support of my supervisor, reviewing and putting together new contract documents. This position allowed me to learn about the electricity distribution industry and its various components from both the business and field perspectives.

I acted as a liaison between field staff and management staff, providing technical support on field procedures. As an intern, I received excellent support from senior staff whenever it was necessary, and I was also exposed to working on some project as a sole contributor.


The hardest part of this position was initially dealing with uneasy staff, but I was able to find means to actually turn this into one of my most enjoyable experiences during my internship tenure. I was able to efficiently resolve issues and create an environment where everybody was happy to come to work everyday, through effective communication and staff management.
