Overall great company as they do help lots of clients there, but never accept any accounting position in this company unless you want to end up being one of future clients of Hollyburn. During couple months of working there I saw several accounting/payroll professionals come and go and all of them complaining that Director of Finance doesn't have basics of ethical communication. No matter how good you are, you will end up leaving the job with lowered self esteem.
Would highly recommend to those newly entering the field. Relief work allows you to work in all the homes and programs - I was able to attend all the orientations & therefore work full-time hours. Gained many references and connections through Hollyburn.
Supervisors bend the rules a lot to benefit themselves. Clients beat the workers a lot and it is expected to "just take it" as the workplace practice. The company is nice and the staff are pleasant but there are a lot of unprofessional and gossipy people. A lot of nepotism as well. It's a very unsafe place to work depending on your site, and if you work with many relief workers.
Do not work here the working culture is heavily toxic and the company cares about money not clients.i would suggest if you do work for Hollyburn you should start looking for a non profit proffesional outfit.
Love this agency they have been amazing and I am so fortunate to be apart of this dedicated culture! The Special Needs Department is so committed and would do anything to ensure the youth and adults needs are met. It’s a very dedicated team and the growth over the 27 years has been outstanding. I have read some of the complaints and that saddens me that some may have not had a positive experience but they have been here for almost 30 years so that does speak volumes. I urge anyone to get what is needed to get complete because we always welcome dedicated hard working people and have seen tremendous growth and opportunities for these individuals.
Very dedicated amazing management and staff
Agreed increased supervision needs to happen to support empowering a stronger culture
Accounting Dep: High level of stress of accounting managers will make you run away from there. Believe your self, you will find easier and more professional jobs are waiting for your experience and hard working out there.
As a relief worker, you get bounced around a lot, which can be a lot to learn, but there are well managed home and some that are a bit overwhelming. Management is supportive overall though they are frequently short staffed
I have worked for Hollyburn services for a number of years now. Started as a practicum student and was hired shortly afterwards. The work is challenging and not for everyone, working with some of the most challenging children and youth. The teams are supportive, supervisors are approachable and management works hard to support.
I find that commited and hard working people are given opportunities to grow. Lots of opportunity for in house and external training.
There have definitely been hard times and difficult situations but I think staying commitment helps.
Good coworkers, pay is competitive, medical and dental, rrsp contributions, training, CARF acredited
upper management passes the buck and takes no responsibility.Under qualified staffing hired as a body is better than no one attitude putting good employees safety at risk daily. under qualified staff are using restraint techniques unsafely and upper manaagement is aware and ignores requests for assistance to supervisors that are over worked and under paid. oveal, I would NEVER reccommend this company and am aware several previous employees suing for wrongful dismissal.
long hours, highly aggressive, dangerous work environments
The clients you will serve will be unable to share their gratitude for your service and if that makes getting up in the morning meaningful for you, then this is a great place to be. Like minded individuals work in the programs to provide great care for those with special needs, youth needing a little support and guidance and seniors needing extra compassion and support.
Hollyburn Family Services is one of the worst organizations I have ever worked for in this field of work. They're careless and have little regard for their employees and clients. They will use threats and intimidation to cover their actions when employees try to speak up. Their HR representatives are completely useless. They talk poorly about employees that get work related injuries to others even though many of those employees used the safety plans put in place. It's best to stay away from this organization if you're also looking for job security. There are many other great agencies around.
A wonderful and dynamic group of people to work with. I volunteered with family services acting as a counsellor to those who had been through their program. I facilitated a womens group for self care for 6 weeks which provided support to those coming out of domestic violence situations.
