you learn a great deal on the term "customer service" and what that entails. You learn to adapt to situations that happen instantly with guests' (good/bad). You also get well at problem solving on your feet, and learn how to react in emergency situations where you are the safety net for the hotel. Working with the other staff is always great, but it can be difficult as well. With a 24/hr business and a lot of shift changes, communication can get lost. That is always an ongoing process.

I worked for Holiday inn for 2 years, I started as training when I was in school, applied and got hired right after school, I love it and enjoyed working there. If not the best, One of the best establishments I worked for.
Health insurance, life insurance, great management, great co-workers, family environment & Free lunch Once a month.
Never had one.
The renovation of the hotel took longer than expected so i had no other option but to seek employment elsewhere .It was an awesome envirorment to work in.Everyone there seemed to get along well.we all ended up to be a very productive group.

In a typical work day I work 8 hours a day and am required to complete 16 rooms a day. I am also required to do laundry and shift work on occasion as well as all general cleaning duties. The management staff gives us great feedback as well as all the proper training and are great with the employees on a professional and personal level. They take the time and patients to make sure we are long lasting team members, with most staff on 10 or more years. My co-workers are all great with attending to guests needs as well as working as a team to help out and get the job done. The hardest part of the job is, as we are a Hotel, we see large fluctuations in vacancy. It can be very high energy and fast paced at times, and can be a a little stressful, but with the staff being such a great team and eager to help, the job is always done right and on time. The most enjoyable part of the job for me, is the interactions with the Guests and making sure we go above and beyond for them. It really instills a sense of pride and satisfaction for myself, my guests and management
Incentives such as lunches and gift cards or family discounts
Long hours when busy
I learned a bunch on the job, and it really keeps you on your feet. Working night audit makes the job a lot more difficult, especially on weekends. The job itself isn't very pleasant, but the management and staff are excellent and keep you motivated. A day at work included accounting most of all, as there was a lot of paperwork and report organizing. Regardless, I would get around 3 hours of downtime in which I could relax for a little bit unless a guest is in need. The only issue is the hours, as night shift ruins your sleep schedule and it couldn't work with me and school.
Long hours, tough shift, a lot of paperwork
The Holiday Inn is not easy work but so long as you get along with your coworkers and are willing to put in the effort it can be an acceptable job. The hardest part is keeping up with the deadlines for special guests or a fully booked hotel while maintaining the attention to detail that would be necessary on a slow day. If you can keep your cool and get along with your coworkers then even on the toughest days there will be someone there to support you and make sure everything is done right and on time.
