The owner and general manager of the Holiday Inn & Suites Calgary Airport North on 20 Freeport Place NE, Calgary, is very unethical to say the least. They hire shuttle drivers on minimum wage, make shuttle drivers do housekeeping, security, maintenance and front-desk job and terminate shuttle driver whenever they want to without a proper reason. The owner is a lawyer that's why they think can get away with whatever they do. They schedule everyone on eight hours shift but cut 30 minutes for break! It is kind of stealing money from employees by cutting 30 minutes every shift as they could schedule people on 8.5 hours shift. Not every employee at font office department get paid same hourly wage although everyone is doing same type and amount of job so pay discrimination is visible. They pay on pay check so you have to deposit it manually and they hope that you forget about your pay check so they don't have to pay you because they never call you when your pay check is ready. No uniform is provided for doing the job which is a security threat and no proper training either. During COVID-19 they laid off many people and gave everyone a letter of termination instead of layoff notice so they have no obligation to re hire you! That shows how nasty minded they are who doesn't care at all for their employees. Employment Standard Alberta and Alberta Labour Relation Board should audit this greedy and unethical business owner and manager on a regular basis.
Poor management who believe no human dignity. They want it to hire slaves. Once you work there don't expect they will raise your salary by a single penny. No work ethics and doesn't have job security. Awful experience. I will not recommend to anyone.

If you are looking to gain experience, you can work at small hotels like the Holiday Inn. No room for advancement, managers come and go. In my 1st year working, the hotel has gone through 3 managers in a span of only 6 months. I have no complaints with the people I work with as everyone does get along regardless of race and culture.
i understand that hotels can overbook, but it puts pressure and stress on agents who have to deal with the customers who booked but dont have a room reserved for them all because they want the most sales. customers can get pretty nasty even when being explained to them clearly that we honestly dont have rooms for them. and for the reason being. for someone who is very sensitive, this job isnt for you. but if you want to work on your profession customer service handling skills and problem solving skills, this is the perfect opportunity.

The owners own most of the holidays inns in Calgary. Two words, Run away. They treat you like garbage and couldn't care less about your health and well being because all they care about is making money. They will have little to no staff on shift to save a couple bucks. So guess what, you'll be working alone while its very busy with no backup. so if it gets busy, you are screwed. They will make you work 14 hour days and double shifts with bo breaks because they're so understaffed and refuse to hire more people. My coworkers were alright to work with but management will screw you over. They will lie to your face, not pay you on time, and steal from you. This has been the most unprofessional place I have ever worked in! DO NOT WORK HERE!
Long hours, double shifts, dont pay you on time
Morning check out shift started at 6:30 until 3:30pm. Evening shift for check in started at 3:30pm until 11:30pm. I worked with all departments such as food & beverage, housekeeping, reservations, sales and accounting. Learned to work in team environment and built strong communication skills.
Well manage, very organize front and back area, staffs are respectful and work together as a team, food and beverage menu and service is high standard, professional management, follows government and company standards on employment practices and principles, clean and well equipped customer outlets and function rooms, fun staff holiday and festive events.
good working environment
not enough hours
My typical day at work is as follows: - Property walk around - Check all Departments to ensure all is well. - Review guest recovery log from the Front Desk to ensure that no follow up is required and all problems have been resolved. - Check emails and answer all guest emails, and respond to any guest reviews from Heartbeat and any other third party sites, e.g. Expedia, Hotels.com and Booking.com - Lobby Ambassador during high checkout periods and ensuring all guests have had an enjoyable stay and resolving any problems before guests checkout, if there any issues during their stay. The workplace culture in my hotel is a pleasant one. All employees are happy and content for the most part. The hardest part of the job is keeping employees as there are many hotels in my area that are being built and offer competitive salaries. The most enjoyable part of my job is not knowing what to expect when I come in. I love that my job is never routine. There is always something different that occurs everyday which challenges me and keeps me on my toes.
Start at 7 am off at 3:30pm. I was able to advance in this hotel to a supervisor position quick, but did not receive a increase in pay. my manager of the housekeeping department was great. i made s few good friends while i worked with this company. i think the hardest part of this job was i was doing the work load of two people.
