Please don’t work here!!!

H&M is by far the worst job I’ve ever had. Please save yourself the mental strain and don’t apply here because it’s not worth the minimum wage pay. The management team is not good at all and they don’t typically treat their employees with respect. The customers also make it worse because they get aggressive and ALWAYS want it to go their way. Most of the time, managers will not follow the policy just to please the customers so they could come back. Another thing is member percentage, the managers are always bugging you about this and how you can do better. Some people just don’t wanna sign up or log in!!! The only good part about this job was the co-workers and the flexible hours. Although, they will only give you 4 hour shifts and on occasion you’ll get a 5-6 hour shift. To add onto poor management, they will often question your abilities and make you feel bad about yourself when they’re talking to you. This is not a healthy workspace at all. If you’ve done retail before, this is something else.

Terrible management! the only good thing, was the sale advisors I worked with

I just wanna say...management in Metrotown H&M sucks. I dont know how many times they have given me so much stress when I call in sick when I AM ACTUALLY SICK. All they have been to me, was negative. I was always trying my best, I did my job very well. My managers just did not care about all the hard work I was doing as well as my other coworkers. Even if you suddenly don't feel well, they would just not care about it. So many of my coworkers feel the same. Honestly, working here was horrible. The only great thing was my fellow coworkers. We bonded so well and even though we had horrible management. We all struggled together and those long shifts really made it a little bearable. If the management was replaced with respectable people, then I would enjoy working there :)

Enjoyable and Friendly

Closely knit and engaging work family which made coming to work very enjoyable! Management improved over time and became more approachable and flexible with hours, while keeping it professional. Pushes you to do better when they see room for growth and offered opportunities of moving up in the company!

absolutely terrible management

management here is terrible, most have no education on business management/interpersonal relations. they absolutely take advantage of young people and international students here. this resulted in a few big workplace injuries, including one where a customer attacked an employee.

Great Job If You Like Feeling Expendible

H&M is the kind of company that attempts to create a positive work environment, but cannot deliver. As an employee, you'll often hear about how much you are valued. In the end, however, you are nothing but an expendable cog within a massive multinational corporation. In my store, management discussed development with a wide array of employees and promised development when positions became available. Unfortunately, even though upper-level management claims to prefer internal development, company recruiters actively search for talent outside the company—effectively undermining the ladder of development and training promised to existing employees within the stores.

Lack of Resources

The company is very cheap so you will get the short end of the stick here no matter what position you are in. I’ve seen store managers going through unfair treatment. Sales Advisors are often not having enough hours or being overworked when they are at the store. Lack of proper training, and questionable upper management. The discount is average and there are perks occasionally, but I would try looking somewhere else if you can. They do not appreciate you nor do they care for you as family like they say. I’m disappointed to say that the coworkers was the best part of a job. I feel like I should have learned more skills.

Fun enough for a retail job

My experience has been on the positive side. Each hour you are assigned a different station, such as cash, or fitting rooms, or the floor - and this really helps with getting bored or burnt-out. You can also be scheduled for a truck shift, where you process incoming garments, and for this you are in the back - sometimes though, they ask you to come out onto the floor to 'support' which is really annoying. I recommend making friends with your coworkers as soon as possible. If not, you will be left out of 'the loop' and work will be boring and miserable. One of the only saving graces of working there are the friends I get to see. Management sucked when I first started, hours all over the place, disorganized, some people flat out rude. However, things are getting better and I hope that hours will be more balanced and I will feel like I can actually talk to management about any issues/concerns I have.

Wonderful work environment

I’ve been working at H&M since September 2019 and I absolutely love it! Everyone Is so friendly and helpful, it’s a fun and easy place to work, and it’s very relaxed. There’s also lots of room to learn and grow/advance. The only downside is there’s not a lot of hours for part timers (most I’ve gotten is about 25 hours in a week, but I typically only get about 12) its also very easygoing and management isn’t very understanding

Productive

H&M has amazing co-workers, but the management is not well ran. All the management does is tell the workers what they are doing wrong and sit in the office and don't help out their staff. This is very active job and you are always doing something.

Summer and school job

I started working here in the summer and ended when my school did. It was an awesome place to work. If you can bear customer service and handle people really well I highly recommend it. They just had the one of the funnest work places.

Fun and Fast-Paced Work Environment

Working in the Mens/Divided department of H&M at the Georgian Mall means you're most likely going to be working alone, as it's on the floor beneath the Hennes department. It has its positives and negatives; there's plenty of work to keep you busy but long stretches of working all alone can give you flashbacks of Cast Away. Part of working alone for years in the Divided department helped teach me time management, as I was essentially responsible for an entire floor. A closing shift meant that I had to maintain the image of the store, engage customers in a helpful and friendly way, and juggle closing cash registers in a timely manner.

Lack of unison in management oversight

H&M is a great company to work for, don't get me wrong, working in a fast paced retail environment, having great colleagues, but there's one thing that I believe is a critical blow to the overall success of certain locations, it's that the managers are not all completely on the same pages when it comes to certain issues.

Perfect for students

this job is perfect for students who don't have bills to pay. very flexible hours, no strict dress code, honestly this job is not bad at all the only thing is that you will have to deal with manager's favorites and a fast-pace environment.

Good for retail experience

Turnover rate is high, most people didnt last more than 3 months there. Overworked, minimum wage, rude management, zero support from head office. Pro - good place to meet friends, high school oriented.
